Looking for a Helper on Victory

I haven't played this since 2007 and just started again, despite having a 50 I feel like an utterly helpless noob. My current problem is using a free Respec, I can't reassign my enhancments. The circles they go in are greyed out. Can someone help me, and answer any other questions I may have? As I said, it's been a long time since I played and a lot has changed, so what little I remember is not very accurate anymore.

It looks like you're a free player. Free players can't use IOs unless they have an Invention License, or have 27+ Reward Tokens (enough to complete Tier 7 on the Rewards Tree).

Are the enhancements that you're trying to place IOs? If they are, then they're non-functioning as long as you don't have an Invention License (which is why you're not allowed to reslot them).

Rather than respeccing, I recommend that you go to a Trainer and choose "Train to a new level of power" and then "Select or Rename your active build". Choose to select your Build 2, and then train to your current level (it will start at level 1, but you'll still have the same amount of XP, so you can train to the same level you were at before). Once you're trained up, you'll need to reslot with Single Origin enhancements and/or Hamidon Enhancements.

If you really want the IOs back, an Invention license only costs 160 points, so $5 worth of points will reactivate your IOs for 2 months, with points left over.

I see, yes they are Invention Origins. So it's $5 to reactivate my IOs for two months for only one character? What if I were to resubscribe?

Another question, on a different character, if I visit the tailor it says my costume has invalid parts, and then my cape disappears. Do I have to redo that mission, and if so where is it? IIRC it's lv20 so my 39 shouldn't have any trouble.

Am I to understand I can't play my MM or Arachnos characters until I sub, even though I made them when I was a subscriber?

It's $2/mo for your whole account, not one character. Alternately, if you have enough vet time they are unlocked via Reward Tokens (Reward Tokens are earned by subscribing and buying points). Subscribers (called VIP Players) get a free IO license as long as they are subscribed.

Your cape's in there, things just got moved around and you have to re-find them.

Unless you have enough vet time to unlock them via Reward Tokens, that is correct.

Where are the capes? The Back slot only had wings. My aura tap is unchanged.

Maybe I should sub for a month to get access to my MM who has a few hundred mil Inf (I think) which would surely be enough for SOs lasting a good long time.

No, the Invention License is for your whole account. And it's included in a subscription, so you wouldn't have to pay any extra.

Costume parts get moved around in the database sometimes, particularly with major updates. When this happens, moved costume parts get rendered invalid, and if you go to the tailor, they're replaced with the default selection. When this happens, you should be able to find the affected costume part elsewhere on the list. You shouldn't need to redo the cape mission to unlock your capes, but if you do need to, the person to talk to is either the City Representative in City Hall in Atlas Park, or Mr. Rodney in Cap au Diable (depending on whether you're Hero or Villain).

Correct. Masterminds, Controllers, Kheldians, Soldiers of Arachnos and Arachnos Widows are all locked out for free players. Masterminds and Controllers can be unlocked for a one-time fee of 1200 points (or $15) each. Earning 13 Paragon Reward Tokens will permanently unlock both ATs for free. Kheldians and Arachnos characters can be unlocked for 1000 points each (or $12.50). Note that Peacebringers, Warshades, Arachnos Soldiers and Arachnos Widows are each a separate unlock, and these four (collectively known as "Epic Archetypes" or "EATs") do not automatically unlock via Reward Tokens.
Once you've unlocked these Archetypes, you can unlock existing characters of those ATs or create new ones normally.

This is from the Character Creation screen, but should be the same in the Tailor:

You may be lacking some categories, since some of those are purchased costume parts, but anything with "Mantle" in it is a cape selection, as is "High Collar".

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong but the only thing I can choose there is Wings. I just hit cancel and my cape is fine, but it disappears in the preview. Maybe I have to do the mission again?

Nevermind, I figured it out. I had to uncheck the little thingie in the lower left.

Ahh, the "Show free items."

By the way, if you just want to play and don't want to deal with respeccing (and trying to find someplace to go put all those enhancements) -

Any character, go to a trainer. Select "Select your build." You'll have two to choose from - the second starts at level 1 (pri/sec are the same, of course.) It'll be like re-training all your levels again (not *playing* from level one, but as if you had, say, PL'd the character and were just now going in to train him - the XP is there and earned, you just have to train the levels in.)

Mini guide to dual builds is down in the signature, if interested.

Make sure you join the chat channels "Victory Forums" and "Victory Badges". That's where most of the chatter and team building takes place for the server. You're also more likely to get advice there than on the 'Help' channel.
