Issues with extra power trays/windows.
wireless mouse? low battery
wired mouse? bad connection/faulty cable
most common problem: using your mouse too much, wearing it out
I've had mice start to have trouble with click and drag and double clicking when I only press once before. The mouse just wore out and needed to be replaced.
There's been some general UI issues since i22 (as usual), but it's possible that the "lock power trays" (I think it exists) option is selected.
@T_Immortalus: It could possibly be my mouse, since it started opening three firefox windows at once a few days after I first encountered this problem, but this computer won't recognize any other mouse.
@WanderingAries: I think the option you're thinking of is 'lock powers in trays,' which does exist, but isn't terribly helpful right now.

It's the only mouse that works?
That does not sound good.
I think you may need a new computer, or at least the software is bad if you can only use one type of mouse that doesn't work that great.
Seriously, try replacing the batteries, switching which USB port the mouse is plugged into or buying a new mouse.
If none of that works, you're going to have to probably try to fix the computer software with driver updates or something.
If that doesn't work then it is time to upgrade to a newer computer.

Could you clarify a bit on this? Are they USB, wireless, BT? If you plug any USB device in (IE: wireless mouse dongle, jump drive, etc) does it recognize the event?
@T_Immortalus: It's a wired mouse, one of the really old ones that goes in the green port (sorry, I'm really bad at technical terms) taking it out and putting it back in did improve things, but not by much.
@WanderingAries: this computer does fine with any other usb device, it just seems to fail to upload software for mice of any kind aside from this one.

If I were you, I'd go to your local computer store and buy their cheapest, most basic wired PS/2 mouse to make sure the old mouse is indeed the problem, and use that one to uninstall whatever mouse software you have installed from your current one, then consider a better mouse. (Assuming you're running Windows, I think I'd try to use the current one to uninstall whatever drivers/software you've got installed -- I'd always thought that most PS/2 mice used Microsoft's basic mouse software until new software from the mouse manufacturer was installed.)

@Everyone: Thanks for the information! I do indeed have a p/s2 connection and if my motherboard is on its way out, then I'll certainly have to start saving for a new computer soon and begin expanding my vocabulary with some very colourful words!

Usually, with Windows, special mouse drivers do more harm than good. People have found that deleting the special drivers and letting Windows self-install the default mouse driver works much better.

A few weeks ago, I encountered a problem with my additional power trays, nav bar and pretty much every window in the game. If I tried to move them, they'd stay locked in place, or they'd move a tiny amount and then stop where they were.
The problem has mostly fixed itself now, but I'm still having trouble with my extra power trays and my email window on some of my toons. As far as I can tell, it's not my mouse that's causing the trouble, so what do you all think?
