SO only Claws/Fiery Aura

This is my free account, I decided to make a support toon and a damage toon that I can use to assist or level the ones from my main account when needed.

I also want to use those characters as a toon my kid's friend can borrow when he comes visit and wants to play with us.

I finally got to implementing that idea of over double XP weekend and I now have a 40-something claws/FA brute.

So I want a character that might be good for getting a character over a few levels by inviting them to a demon farm or similar, but is also playable for general purpose.

It's been ages since I played either set, and even longer since I used SOs in anything, but this being a completely free account, I can't do IOs

so here 's my proposed build, anything outrageously wrong?

As a brute, I would hesitate to slot for damage. And instead of Focus Accuracy I would take superior conditioning. I would go with 2 accuracy, 2 recharge and 2 endmod with spin and eviscerate. Maybe three recharge in spin. But SO builds are pretty straight forward. Since you have consume, I would focus on recharge in each power.

no damage? why? fury? wouldn't it still multiply with the enhance damage?

Also, since I would like to farm with this build, I figured FA would help miss less when fighting purples, even though it's End heavy.

Well, the answer is simple. You will be chomping reds in a farm. So recharge and endurance will matter more over the long haul.

A single accuracy so in a power offers far more acc than fa and costs no endurance. You will want the end that fa uses more than the tohitbuff since you aren't getting sets. You canfarm just fine at +2 and probably quicker.

Build looks ok to me, a couple of thoughts:

Would you be willing to invest in some hami-o's? They can be used by free accts iirc, and you can get some more effective slotting that way. The resist and defense enhancements are pricey, but the rest (heal/end, acc/dam) are more reasonable budget-wise.

I'd enhance the attacks for dmg, it sounds like this won't be a 'pure farming' toon if your friend's kid will be playing it some. I'd also drop FA for superior conditioning. Claws has a to-hit buff in follow up. Also, you might do some testing to see if fighting 'purples' gives your best xp/time, I seem to recall that prior to incarnate buffs my best returns came from fighting around +2/8.

I'd drop a slot from RotP, and just use a stun SO in the base slot.

I thought of Hami Os, I also think they work for free accounts.
However free accounts don't have access to the market and can't trade, so I'd have to rely on drops while playing this character through Hami raids. Probably not worth it, given how many Centrioles I get on my main account (my longest streak was 13 in a row broken by getting a Lyso)

I could get a trading license but then it wouldn't be a free account, and I'm not sure I want to spend that much on him anyway.

As far as damage in Spin, the good news is that it's cheap and easy to waste SOs to try a few combinations.

I won;t be able to respec this toon more that 3 times easily (all 3 respec trials) so I sorta need to get the Epic pool right.I specifically chose Energy Mastery for FA.Since everyone thinks it's a bad choice, I need to look at the pools as other alternatives.

I unfortunately don't have a good feel for what the end use will be and whether I need the Epic to help with End or not, especially with Consume. I may have to burn a respec to find out.

I wouldn't worry about burning a respec. I mean, you have 2 builds anyway. Treat one as your leveling build and the other as your end game build. Then blow a respec, but I can't imagine needing three on an SO build.

Picking Epic pools is tough. You might want to consider keeping Energy Mastery on an SO toon though. But the other option I would consider is Earth. Claws/Fire has plenty of AOE damage with Spin-Burn-Eviscerate-Blazing Aura. But what you lack is Control. Salt Crystals is usually pretty effective with just a single accuracy SO/IO for freezing mobs. But the real boon to your arsenal is Quicksand, the AOE defense debuff that reacharges pretty quick. You could always go with Pyre Mastery, but it offers only ST controls.

Honestly though, I would always worry about Endurance with an SO-build so Energy Mastery is an okay choice. But what I often do even with IO builds is have one Epic in one build and another in the other. For instance, you might want to have extra range attacks when fighting monsters like Hamidon as a brute, but want the control of Earth when playing normally.

Do free accounts get email priveliges? You could always buy em (HOs) on your other acct and mail 'em to your freebie. (It occurs to me that maybe they don't, to block out the spammers). Or, if you use an SG, put 'em in storage for your freebie.

I also agree that Energy Mastery is a good choice for end management reasons. If this is a villainous brute, you might consider Mu for the extra AoE, but that'll force a little redraw (not that burn doesn't as it is...).

I wouldn't have thought of earth, but considering that spin and burn both have low-ish target caps/radii (and so won't disturb too many of your sleeping victims) that may be worth considering if your end consumption seems ok.

I'd most likely stay away from pyre on an SO build, fireball eats base 19 end per use.

Should be able to receive (but not send) email. So you could send SO's via email from your VIP account to your Free account. Not sure he would have access to an SG base much less the bins.

No SG access either.

"farming" is the wrong term also, without being able to get drops and sell, or even trade inf, what I want to do is not farming as a much as help PLing toons from my main account or my kids' accounts (they're premium)

I do like the idea of earth. I think I'll start with that, see how Endurance works out, and take it from there.

I've done this and at the end of the day I wished I went for SS/Fire. Claws seems like a good choice, but the redraw is ridiculous and I believe the Claws vs SS for farming debate was put to bed by BillZBubba who determined that Claws only excels over SS at the damage cap.

And here-in lies the problem. If you're going to be using it to tackle tough content while dragging along a lowbie, you can kiss your reliance on inspirations goodbye. Solo you get more inspirations on x8 than you know what to do with. With just one other character on the team you will not be able to get enough of the ones you need to drop often enough to keep your +damage rolling. I find it nearly impossible to crack 300% damage, and usually hover around +200% on my claws/fa brute, and that's with IOs, when I'm using it with another character. The redraw will also have a good chance of driving you insane eventually.

Rage continues to prove itself to be amazing here.

Another thing to consider is that, unless you map the entire mission before joining, you'll be forced to fight bosses. Again, the +dam and +acc from Rage makes that far easier.

That said, it's a good idea and claws is still very capable and will work, but you may find yourself very tempted to drop the $5 on the IO license. During dXP I wasn't using AE because that is exempt from the dXP gains, so I had to to normal missions. You're going to have to use a cherry picked AE map for max efficiency or you if get yourself the demon map you can probably do alright, but against normal content on something like +1x8 on SOs may be more trouble than it's worth.

none commented on Weave, but looking at the numbers on Mid's, it looks like it provides only 6%.
Probably not worth the power and the slots since it's my only source of defense.
