Where are you slotting ATOs for Dark/Dark?

Just like the title says, I am curious as to where you more experienced Dominators are slotting your ATOs. ST hold? Wide Cone AoE? I figure something fast will be better, but wondering if it is well-suited to AoE or ST attacks/holds?

This is my first Dom (surprise, surprise), so I don't really know much about the AT, other than that it is pretty fun so far (still sub-20).

Most dominators slot their ATO's in their single target hold. It has good utility and short cooldown. You have to keep the cooldown short to keep the stacks up on the proc.

I am slotting it in fearsome stare while I level up. I am not putting six slots in my single target hold when I am already starving for slots at low levels. I might even keep it like that since IMO it is nicer than the other fear sets you can have anyway.

I put it in my aoe immob. With reactive, it generates damage, and generates +damage, so it boosts itself. Also, the fear has 11.5% unmoded -tohit. Putting clouded senses gets you ~-22% -tohit which is pretty good, and 24 seconds terror under dom. That also nets you 6.25% rech and 3.75% ranged, which imo is pretty good. Basilisks go in the AOE hold, purple confuse in the st confuse, a mix of all sorts of IOs in the two pets for rech and ranged def, like expedient reinforcement in the big pet for the proc, 3.13% ranged, 6.25% rech, and 4 slot call with the 2 rech intensive pet procs, for all 4 pet procs, 12.50% rech, 3.13% ranged, 6.25% rech for cloud senses, 3.75% ranged, 3.25?% range and 8.75% rech from the ato, 15% rech from basilisks, and 2.5% ranged.

So, just the basics, you have (including stupefy)

4 * 6.25% rech
2 * 7.5% rech
1 * 10% rech
1 * 8.75% rech
1 * 5% range
2 * 3.13 range
1 * 3.75 range
1* 3.25 range

Thats 58.75% ranged (and only a handful of powers), and 15.13% ranged def. Add in 5 heavily muled in lotg rechs, and you have 96.25% rech, and the def from hover or cj, plus whatever else you can manage to slot for defense. Another 30% ranged def seems more than possible when you include in 15 from 4 tstrikes, putting you at 30.13, with a single target hold, pbaoe attack, and 2 melee attacks to fill in. The two melee attacks would get you 7.5, putting at 37.63. Thats just 7~ points to range softcap. If you upgrade your ATO, thats like 5% to softcap.....

My primary concern so far in slotting the ATO set has been to maximize global recharge bonuses (for perma-dom). So I have been focusing on slotting it in a power that either doesn't have an IO set with good global recharge or gives a global recharge bonus that I can get other places. For example, there are plenty of ways to get a 6.25% global recharge bonus so instead of placing a stupify set in a stun the ATO set is a good choice when you can easily hit the 5 set bonus cap by slotting positron's blast and decimation sets in attacks.

Because holds can take Basilisks Gaze sets, which give 7.5% recharge bonuses that are on a separate limit than the LoTG +recharge bonus they are a bad place to put an entire 5 piece dom ATIO although they are the best place to put the ATO proc. So what I do is 5 slot my single target hold, stick a 4 piece Basilisks Gaze set and the proc. Then I put the other 5 ATO's in a different control, such as a stun or immoblize. For darkness control either the fear or the stun would be a great choice for the ATO set - not only for the global bonuses but because if you slot everything but the proc you get some great enhancement bonuses - much better than a stupify or glimpse of the abyss (fear) would give you.
