Grav/Elec Build Help

Posted

I recently started my first Dom, a Grav/Elec, and am wondering if my intended final build is going overboard on recharge to achieve PermaDom. According to Mids, Domination with this build recharges in 89.39 sec, but I wonder if getting to PermaDom without need for Hasten is too much. Maybe I should divert some additional slotting into increased ranged defense? If so, what would a better target for recharge be?

Before I post the build, a note to Grav mavens: I have an incarnated Grav troller, so have tried and dropped Wormhole before - its omission is quite deliberate; I just don't like it.

Anyway, here is the build. This is shown as a respec build, so the slot order is not as I will actually do it. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

(1) Why crush when lift does much more damage? Purely for the set bonus?

(2) Why is weave 6-slotted when the much more potent scorp shield is only 1-slotted? And you put an extra lvl 50 defense IO in hover but none in scorp shield? Bizarre.

(3) Defense seems iffy to me given the fact that you seem at least partially to be building for it.

(4) Weird slotting in health with 5-slotted doctored wounds apparently purely for a 5% recharge bonus?

(5) Most tellingly, why the hell play a Gravity Control set at all if you aren't taking wormhole? Why take a control set and then not take its up every fight power?

I get that you don't like wormhole, but that basically means that you don't like gravity control. Just play one of the other control sets whose up every fight power you like.

The only conceivable reason I can come up with is that you like Singy just that much... Are you sure one of the other sets won't suit you better? You can take whatever pet the new set gives you and still be ahead of the game control-wise (even w/o singy) because you will actually have some damage mitigation ability up every fight.

Thanks for your feedback! I am still quite uncertain about how much recharge is needed for PermaDom, so as I said in my OP, I was wondering if had had gone overboard. I have revised my build to bump up the Ranged Def at the expense of some of the Recharge, hopefully to achieve a better balance.

Yes, it was originally for the set bonus. Now I switched to Lift, with Thunderstrikes for Ranged Def + Dam

The 5 Red Fortunes were for the Rchg bonus. I lean towards positional def vs. typed def, so that is why I have not slotted up Scorp Shield - it is just a mule for a LotG.

My revised build is now just shy of softcap for ranged def

Correct, it was for the Rchg bonus. Replaced with Numina's for the proc and the ranged def.

I decided to give WH a shot again - maybe this time I'll figure it out, at least solo.

Anyway, back to the PermaDom thing... now Mids says Dominate will recharge in 78.8 sec if Hasten is running, and Hasten will recharge in 128 sec, so if I understand this right, I will be PermaDom if I can restart Hasten within 3 seconds of it being available? (11 sec left of Domination after it is ready to re-fire minus the 8 sec of Hasten not being up - is this the right way to look at this???)

Thanks again for your input!

I think you'll be very pleased with Wormhole after i22 hits, especially if you're solo. It will soon be aggro free. As a soloist an aggro free, mag 6 stun will be fantastic.

I did some more digging into the whole Permadom thing, and found a good guide with some understandable math in it. (See "Guide to Perma Domination with IOs" in the Dom Guides thread, and look at post #39 by Kosmos).

Per that guide, given that I have 3 Lvl 40 Rchg IOs in Hasten, I only need 67.74% global recharge to get Permadom. Great news! This means I can convert another set from Rchg bonus to Ranged Def bonus, and now have soft capped Range def. My updated build has 71.3% global rchg and 45.6 Ranged Def. Winning!

The last build is better and I am glad we were able to help. I still have minor problems with it, like I think you are overslotting health and could get similar benefits somewhere else and a couple of other slotting decisions (I think you could put one more in havok for the crushing impact recharge bonus.)

My main confusion is why scorpion shield at all? It is a really cool ability, and I think your build could be modified to get great range def and s/l def if you just tweaked it a little bit.

If you don't want s/l def at all though, just choose the concealment power pool and slot any of stealth, invis, grant invis with LoTG mules. This would then free you up to take mu mastery and another aoe or something else nice.

This is all nit-picking of course and if you are having fun go with it!

Well, I am glad I was persuaded to give Wormhole another try - in I22 it rocks! No more Alpha during the wind up part. Sweet!
