Side-Switch Token Cooldown?

So today I rounded out my trip to Villain via Tips. And once I did the PPP arc to claim Shadow Meld, I figured, hey, let's use a shiny new Alignment Token to pop back blueside.

Except it is not working. Every time I try to claim it I get some error message about how I must be lvl 20, not on a TF, and not in oro or some other spot to use it. All conditions I meet.

Is there a cooldown period on side-switching, via tips or tokens?

with tips the cooldown is how long you have tips filling up one of those circles (20 hours once you finish the tip)

as for the token i have no idea, i dont think there should since its a pay for item (way too expensive for my tastes), but it could be an oversight or something they forgot to tell us

I have not heard that there is "supposed" to be a cooldown, for what that's worth.

The idea that they are expensive was the whole point behind how they are supposed to work to keep people from side-switching too often in the first place. It's the exact same reason why things like server transfers and character renames are also expensive. So it doesn't really make sense for there to be any cooldown associated with alignment change tokens. The way they are meant to "control" people is via their cost, not how often you use them.

If there is a cooldown happening here I would have to think it's some kind of bug. It simply would be overkill for that to be WAI. *shrugs*

While I haven't heard about a cooldown period I have heard about a bug where somebody tries to use two in a row (for whatever reason) and the second one burns with no effect.

People were having problems using these tokens on the beta server in the last few weeks. Seems as though they didn't fix all the bugs with them before the released them to the live servers.

Until we know for sure I wouldn't plan on trying to use one of these tokens within like a day (20 hours?) of a recent alignment switch.

Where were you when you tried to claim it?

Villain, in Nerva.

I spent 2+ days doing tips to go Hero -> Vig -> Villain. Then I ran the Villain PPP mish. After I completed the PPP chain, I tried to use the token to go back to Blueside. It wouldn't let me.

I'm wondering if it is because there is a timer on side-switching that even the tokens follow. That is, I tried to use to token to close to when I had turned to Villain using tips.

Stupid question: Do you still have to visit a contact to finish off your arc?

Had the same problem - my solution : log out to the character screen and back in... the second token should now work on the same toon.

I'm sure I'm over thinking it, but could it be because you were in a zone that heroes could not have access to? Perhaps you could try again in Pocket D or RWZ?

that shouldnt be an issue, according to feedback threads in beta the alignment tokens are supposed to work anywhere, regardless of zone, so you could be a hero in PI then all the sudden shift to villain while still in PI

as to if that actually works or not could be a possibility as to why it wouldnt let him claim the token in nerva

Make sure you petition and bug it. You may be able to get your token back. For $10 I hope so. It shouldnt allow it's use to be discharged at that price.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

So how did you go? Did it work after you logged back in? or did you wait 20hours?

Yes it worked after 20 hrs.

Thinking back, there are/were alot of "major character change effects" that have a cooldown time of like 18/20/24hrs so waiting till the next day is probably a good practice anyway.

Again having a cooldown period like this is a good idea when that's the only method of control the Devs have to work with. That's why you have cooldown periods for things like getting Empyrean Merits in the iTrials.

But I'll drive home the point again that the control method in this case is the cost of the Alignment Token itself. It really makes absolutely -no- sense for something which is already controlled by costing 800 Paragon Points to ALSO have a cooldown period.

I suspect the only reason there may be a 20 hour cooldown here is because it's leftover code from the way the morality missions from the Tip system works. At the very least if this is WAI the Devs should have told us about that and made it impossible for people to waste Alignment Change tokens before the cooldown period is done.
