I'd move the kismet to CJ, since it needs to be in an active power.

If you plan on actually using defensive sweep, I'd slot some accuracy in it.

If you're planning on building to s/l softcap, why bother with defensive sweep?

Accuracy is still pretty low in most of your attacks. Turn off Build Momentum and Cloak of Fear to get an accurate reflection of your to-hit chances.

On a different topic: I messed around a bit with my positional build, defense dropped to 43.9m/42.9r/42.9a but net recovery is up to 1.98 end/s before accolades or incarnate powers. Decent end redux and dmg slotting in the attacks, and 95% to-hit v. +3s. I dropped the mez aura (just didn't have the slots for CoF, though OG works well on the base slot I thought I'd try Burnout for 'oh sh*t' moments when back-to-back heals would be handy, like when recharge is seriously debuffed and I need the heal up now). Power order is not representative, I'm just messing around with slotting arrangements for now. Feedback welcome

Better Acc and end redux in your attacks is still my #1 recommendation. 24% global ACC won't help you that much with powers that you've slotted NO Accs in (def sweep/arc). Most of your powers that require a to hit roll have around 22% Acc in them.

I think you are focusing too much on end management from a toggle perspective that you are missing the bigger picture. What mids doesn't tell you as readily is how much end you use per attack chain. More Acc = less missed/wasted attacks = better return for your end invested. Remember attacks use more end than toggles do. Knocked dow/Dead moobs don't hit back and that contributes to your survivability as well.

Dark Regen is on a 19 sec recharge and NO end redux. You need more slots there.

If you follow conventional wisdom, you should get your E/N up there in the softcap range as well. Combined with a 19sec dark regen that is part of the reason why you still feel squishy for harder end game content.

Building for s/l/e/n, as conventional wisdom suggests, doesn't take advantage of defensive sweep.

As to the difference between a SD or SR build, DDR is the answer. And resists. You'll have (comparitively) massive resists (and a ridiculous heal) to back up your positional defenses, making you tougher in some instances. However, with no DDR, those defenses can go away very quickly.
I, personally, totally agree with you here...I have a Katana/Dark Brute...Softcapped to all positions with 1 Divine Avalanche, and he is an absolute beast to play...tons of fun, and tough.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks Nemu,

I took your advise and changed a quite a few enhancements in the set to add acc to all the powers I could. I think I may have gone overboard because now my dmg seems to have been affected quite a bit but hey atleast all my powers hit (right)? I also focused on getting as close to softcapped in e/n as possible without having to drop any of the powers I wanted and that seems to have a great effect on my survivability (s/l was already over softcapped on my previous build).

I'm looking foward to getting T4 incarnate on my alpha so I can run all my toggles indefinitely as I find that my end is drained in those rare occasions where the fights are long and I have all my toggles on (fear and dmg toggle) activated. I probably could have dropped defensive sweep (as it gives me positional boost to melee which I didn't really think necessary) and chosen another power that would have given me that extra % to softcap energy and negative defensives but I figured that the amount I have should be good enough and I was able to slot it to give me e/n def boost anyway. Check it out and let me know what you (or anyone else thinks). Thanks again!

You'll also want to keep Defensive Sweep because it's your tier 1 attack and therefore your source for Bruising, in addition to the Defense it provides. Not an earth-shattering contribution, but a significant one.

Hey Justaris, Dech's DA thread you have linked is less than 6 months older than Jebe's guide, which is still like 95% up to date considering that haven't really changed crap since he wrote it, as far as DA is concerned. I am actually disappointed that he seems to have quit right around the same time people started paying attention to Dechs, which ironically is around the same time I started one of my sabbaticals from the game.

As far as going for positional defense on a DA tank, go for it, I did it on my DA/DM tank, and it was well worth it. The gladiators 3% is not as hard to get as people make it out to be, I farmed a bunch of hero merits til I got mine. Took some time, but was worth it.

Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.

That's true on the surface of it, but Dechs has continued to post about DA in that and other threads, and in fact has formalized his guide only recently (see his post upthread). I would still consider his information to be more up to date, and that's why I made the recommendation I did. I stand by it.

As for the decision to go positional versus typed for Defense, I find it's influenced in large part by the secondary being paired with DA. Some secondaries like MA or TW offer powers that might push you in one direction over another. In this post-converters market I'd definitely say it is much, much easier to get a Gladiator's Armor +3% Defense IO and I feel more more comfortable recommending them now.
