Questions about downgrading from VIP to free.

You get a min of two character slots. depending on old vet rewards and purchases etc you may have more.
You get to pick which characters to unlock. You can pick an empty slot to create a new character as one of your unlocks, or existing characters.
It's possible to unlock a character you can't use e.g. if you dont also have access to controllers or masterminds and pick one of them.
I suggest after going premium you check your reward chart to make sure if you wanted to unlock a controller etc.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Second part: Yes you can upgrade back at any time by resubbing and have everything you had when you were last a VIP.

Minor adjustment:
You'll have X number of global unlocks. These can be used anywhere. Minimum 2.
You'll ALSO possibly have X number of *server* slots, if you've purchased extra slots on specific servers. These can only be used *on* that server, but will be used first if you unlock a character. (Can also be used to unlock empty slots.)
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
Adding another question onto this in lieu of opening a new thread.
If you place your reward tokens in the VIP only slots, do you still keep those costumes (Celestial and the Fire and Ice sets) after you drop back to premium?

Anything you purchase/unlock, via reward tokens, paragon points, or in-game actions, stays unlocked.
Anything that isn't a specific purchase/unlock you lose. Since you "purchase" the VIP costumes, you keep them even when you are not VIP.
This includes Incarnate-related emotes and costume pieces too; if you have the Incarnate auras or whatever, you can use them even if you drop to premium and can't use the Incarnate system. You can't buy more (can't interact with the vendors), but anything you've already purchased/unlocked continues to unlock, even for new characters.

1. First of all, just to be clear, does that mean I would still keep my Ninja Run, Sands of Mu, and all that kind of stuff? Based on what I read above, that's the way I'm understanding it. Correct?
2. About the character slots... I never purchased any extras, but from time to time, I would be given an extra slot. For example, while all the servers have the 12 default open slots, there are a few where I've unlocked 1 or 2 more slots, but not by purchase. I guess those came with some kind of time-based rewards of some sort or something like that. Would I keep those?
