When Psyche's mind was trapped outside her body, Aurora let Psyche share her body for a while (this happened way before the SSA timeline). When Psyche was able to return to her own body, she psychically separated from Aurora... almost. Part of Aurora's 'psyche' was left behind in Psyche's psyche. So, Psyche walled off that vestigial part of Aurora within her mind. However, it seems that vestigial part had a mind of it's own and always threatened to break free and make Psyche psycho.

Malaise knew of that part of Psyche wanting to break free and take over and teamed up with it. The real Aurora got into Psyche's mind to help her fight the vestigial Aurora.

Also to clarify, this used to be in game. When the game first launched up until about Issue 3 in Independence Port Sister Psyche was using Aurora Borealis's model and the trainer was Malaise.

After the Calvin Scott TF was released Sister Psyche was given her own unique model and Malaise was replaced with her old model and renamed Aurora Borealis.

We got a hint of this earlier in the Top Cow comic book, during a time period when everyone lost their super powers. Sister Psyche could no longer use her powers to repress the remnant of Aurora trapped in her mind, and it was driving her insane by trying to forcibly insinuate itself into her personality. Back then the Aurora remnant had more of a love/hate feeling toward its captor; by the time of SSA 4, it's obvious that the love part of the equation had withered away and the hate had grown massively.
