Galaxy's Last Stand
Thumbs up!
Very nice, hun.
I dunno why but while I was listening to your music I was inspired to write. Just thought I'd share what your creativity spawned in my short while of imagining --
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The cool air brushing through my hair would be the last thing I would ever remember, the way I tucked it back while my eyes remained peeled outside my apartment room's window. Staring at the last time, not known to me just then, that Galaxy City would be whole. It's really just a blurr now, it happened so fast... the explosions from the first meteorite. I didn't know that is what it was at first, but, when it happened it didn't take long to realize what needed to happen next.
And what was that?
I had to get out.
Get out from where?
From Galaxy City. I had to leave to survive.
What did you do first?
I turned to the T.V. It was all over, every channel, alarm sirens going off outside. Telling everyone to escape, telling everyone it was a mandatory evacuation, telling everyone it was NOT a terrorist attack. Telling everyone it was aliens. I remember I was watching on as the President came on and gave the announcement that the Freedom Phalanx was on its way, that Longbow forces were at the ready. Though anyone there, right then, knew the truth..
And that was?
It was over. I was on the outskirts, I saw no one except random heroes flying, or running into the chaos. I saw in the distance as I looked away from the television the explosions just lighting up everything, everywhere. People screaming in terror. Police cars everywhere, but no Longbow vehicles. Not until it was too late. I remember the last image on my television was the station cutting out as the President was telling us to remain calm. After it went silent, dead blackness, I walked to the window only to feel the wind had changed.
Changed how?
It wasn't blowing like it had been, and the smell was different. The air was filled with soot, and the sounds of horns died out. Now there were just explosions, and grumblings.
Grumblings?
I don't know.. I just.. the sounds are too weird to explain. Like growls. Angry growls.
Like animals?
No. Not like animals. Something different, something horrible. Something that I .. .. I don't know. I remember that it only took five minutes.
Five minutes for what?
...For my home, where I grew up in, Galaxy City... to be reduced to nothing.
I'm sorry I'm at a loss for words here..
We all are, Sir. Took me a long time to get the nerve to move away from the window but when I did it happened.
It?
An earthquake, or so I thought. Turns out a meteorite struck the apartment complex next to mine. The lights went out, people were screaming, yelling, crying. I ran to my door, threw it open and was joined by many who were hurrying out. Yelling they are here! I tried to ask who, what, something. Finally a frantic woman turned to me and said, '' The beasts with the glowing bodies. '' As soon as we made it down the stairs, and rushed out of the building I got my first look at them.
Them?
Those beasts. The things they are calling shivans now. I'm unsure of just what they are but I know of what they're capable of.
And that is?
Murder. Cold, heartless murder.
You're looking pale.. we can sto--
She was running next to me. Right next to me, yelling out for her daughter. That poor lady. She didn't even, no.. not she, WE, no one saw it coming. This beast that rose from the smoldering ashes of a piece of asteroid. It struck her, taking her into its body, and as I was knocked from my feet due to a powerful shaking of the ground I watched on in horror as it... absorbed her.
Absorbed?..
Ate her. Put her into its body and she .. disintegrated. As if in some tub of acid or something, just dissolved almost instantly. Devoured. As it turned to me I remember thinking if I was next but that is when he appeared.
'
He?
No one believes me, they think I'm crazy.
What happened? Please, go on.
So many legs extending from his spine, eyes glowing crimson. A wicked smirk I'll never forget, and yet he walked right past me, stepping between the thing and me. From the ends of his legs that twitched there came a glow of sorts.
A glow?
A red glow, and exploding outward were like beams or something. Like a laser pointer only bigger. They contacted the shivan thing and the shivan exploded. Goo flung everywhere, bones of the woman it had eaten that were left also freed.
My god..
That's not the most unbelievable part. This is what people think me crazy for, even the Longbow agent that spoke with me, that told me to see you in this ''safe'' zone, mocked me heavily.
What? Tell me.
As I tried to get up, after the eight legged man saved me, there came a strange silence. The shivans were completely eradicated, none were in sight but you could hear them in the distance. I could see more meteorites falling, raining down, but I was calm. Awkwardly so. For there to the front of me was a man that I had been told was pure evil, yet he didn't even think twice to come between me and the creature. It was Lord Recluse an--
Lord Recluse??!
You too, huh? I knew this was a bad ide--
No, go on.
You don't think I'm crazy?
....I would like to hear the end of it.
...Well.. okay, whatever. I know what Lord Recluse looks like, we all do. Who doesn't? It's not like he hides himself away like some of the Freedom Phalanx. Anyway, he was there and after speaking to the arachnos armored people he looked back to me. Those eyes are unmistakable. Those eyes showing absolutely no fear, and that grin that could make even the bravest hero crumble. He scared me so much but yet I felt in an odd way connected, I felt so calm. He just stood there, looking to me and then he turned away. I went to thank him but my lips just couldn't find the words and then he said to m--
He said something to you?
Yes..
You are positive this wasn't something you imagined during the trauma of everything that happened?
I didn't fall on my head! Nothing hit me! I know what I saw!
Okay, okay. Calm down, deep breaths. I'm just making sure.
Are we done here?
Well, we can be if you want. However, if you don't mind, I'd like you to continue. Please, tell me what he said?
You sure you're not going to mock me?
No. My job is to listen and evaluate your health after all. For that I need all the facts of this incident.
Promise?
I promise to not mock you. Please, continue.
Fine. So he said something to me, over his shoulder and I remember it clear as day. '' Remember this day, woman. There were no heroes to save you, no heroes to save your City. No Statesman to stand his ground against this threat, no Longbow to fill the air with their propaganda of a safer tomorrow. Remember this day until you die. It was I, Lord Recluse, who saved your pathetic self. ''
He said that?
Yes. I tried to say something back to him, but I couldn't. I just didn't have the strength, I was so bewildered by it all. I just didn't know what to think, and I remember looking down with my fists clenching in both anger at the way he looked down on me, and then I started to cry. Realizing that everything he said was true. As I looked up, when I finally did, I saw him walking away, moving closer to the inside of the City. Arachnos agents ran past me, and him to join their assault against the creatures. Before he got out of earshot I finally mustered enough of a voice to scream at him, but why I don't know, I yelled, '' I'm not pathetic! '' He paused, a couple of Arachnos soldiers had turned around. I remembered when they started to raise their rifles he just put up a hand then pointed forward and they kept going, and he turned to look at me with that wicked grin. He said, '' Prove it, or run away. '' As he turned away I remember another of those asteroids struck a building close by. Before the shivans even had the chance, before I could lower my arm that shielded my face from scattering debris, Lord Recluse had turned it into a burning mess. I could hear his laughter that echoed above the sizzling snaps of the electric wires, above the generators exploding. I watched until he disappeared into the smoke, heading for the heart of the ruins where gun fire, and screams were loud.
That does seem far fetched, I must admit.
I know. I didn't expect you to believe me.
It's extremely difficult, given his nature. Given past experiences, I mean as they say the proof is in the pudding.
I know.
So what happened after he disappeared?
I remember being called to, it was the Longbow at long last. They were coming in after Lord Recluse had already disappeared, and almost immediately after looking away from where Recluse was I remember being helped up, forcefully, by some Longbow agents. Being moved over to a mobilized command center as they called it. PPD were pouring in, they had shut down the exit. They were probing me for info but after all of it I felt angry at them.
Angry? Why? Weren't they helping?
They were late.
I'd hardly say saving your life was too late.
...Sounds like a pathetic excuse..
I'm sorry?
Nothing.
Lets continue..
Well, after being checked on and told to evacuate I was stopped by an agent that wanted to know all the details. They were carrying some digital pad, noting everything. I told my story, every last detail, just like I'm telling you now. After I was done they checked my head for any bumps, bruises, cuts, scrapes, and said they wanted to make sure I wasn't suffering a concussion. After all that they sent me to you.
And thus we come to the conclusion then. Here we are.
Yea.. here we are.... you don't believe me do you?
My dear, I don't have any reason not to but you have to see things from my side. It's a very hard pill to swallow, to think that just over a hour ago Lord Recluse not only saved you but slipped past a sea of Heroes coming here, to this exact location, to that very entrance into Galaxy City. However, I am clearing you.
Oh.. no brain damage?
No, none at all. Your sense of humor puts an end to that, sarcasm is a big clue which speaks edgewise. I think, however, that you may of encountered a hero that, during your trauma, may of brought repressed fears of Lord Recluse to the forefront. Perhaps a psychic with their abilities more or less beyond normal control. There is nothing wrong with you physically, thank the heavens, and you seem in good mental health.
Wonderful..
I'm clearing you to the next phase, young woman. Please go check in with the refugee camp and lets see about getting you changed into something different, get you a warm meal, and find a place for you to stay temporarily.
...
Are you okay?
I'm fine.
Then we're done here. Try to get some rest, and don't worry. The Freedom Phalanx and others like them have arrived to do what they can to restore peace in Galaxy.
Heh.
Did I say something funny?
No. Not at all.
Very well then, please be safe.
Yeah. You too.
....pathetic..
I'm sorry?
Nothing.
Have a nice day. ....Next?
Insta-fave. Nice one as always, OV.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.
