I need a new old computer
So my computer just died so I want to come up with a replacement. I have a video card, a bunch of memory, and several hard drives I want to migrate to a new machine but the video card is AGP, the hard drives are IDE and I'm sure the memory is considered out dated as well.
I tried searching google for a bare bones kit that would fit my needs but I couldnt find anything. Does anyone have any clues or hints they could share on where I can find a system that will get me up and running? I'm buying a new old car later this month so upgrading to a new computer with all new components isn't financially feasible at this time. Thank you and death to statesman |
Find something with PCI-E.
If you can cover shipping, I have a GTX 260 I'll send you.
I'd sent it out to someone else previously, but she couldn't use it because it didn't fit her case. Right now it's just sitting on a shelf taking up space.
I have a GTX260 card. Its a huge card that pumps out a lot of hot air.
That could would require a big case and decent air flow. Mine in an Antec P182 case usually gets close to 81C. It also sucks lots of power too.
Warden: You *might* find something on ebay, but those parts are worth less than the cost of shipping.
You might be able to find a debranded refurbished computer cheap. At those prices trying to make something new would probably be cheaper in the long run.
http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=SYS Cheap here but man these things are dinosaurs. Those that are not dinosaurs compete with new systems.
H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster
CoH in WQHD

I did something similar to dad's tower when id died. I took what I had and found a board on NewEgg that was AGP based, but still upto par with current gen systems. Granted, I did end up buying the main core components (CPU/RAM/MOBO) as I was doing a true upgrade, but check it out none the less.
*goes to find specs*
Here's what I got him:

Manufacturer's page:

Here's something I might have got Me had I had the same restrictions:
nm, couldn't find one better I liked as they were all micro-atx...
Either way (if you're only looking to replace the board) you need find out what chipset is/are that'll work with the components. I recall something about the 775 (intel ver) chipset when I was doing research on his components, but it's been so long. I'm sure there's going to be tons of "just go buy a new rig/GPU/etc", but sometimes you just wanna go simple. Why don't you give a list of exactly what you Have from the old system along with any specs (DDR2 RAM, AGP 1/2/3/...etc). Exact numbers will be Very important.
So I went ahead and just ordered a new computer.
Thanks for the offer Hyperstrike but your card sounds like a monster.
Hopefully monday or tuesday I'll be able to play CoH.
