City Of Heroes Freedom Friday: 1/6/12 - Q&A, Or What?

Disappointing that personal bases aren't even on the radar (and probably impossible from a tech standpoint according to the answer), and point cards will probably never happen, for whatever strange reason. At the very least I'd like to see support of Ultimate Game Card added. That'd be a minimal-hassle solution for NCSoft.

There's a very good reason you want to give free players access to SG membership: it gets them involved with the community, community involvement being key to retention, and retention is key to them becoming a paying customer. It benefits VIPs also as they have a larger pool of players to get SG members from. Really, it's a win-win-win situation for NCSoft, VIPs and free players to allow them SG membership.
