kat/da questions...
ok, I have been working on this build since I came back to CoH, the concept took me a while to get fleshed out. But, I am not terribly familiar with either of these 2 sets as much as I used to be, and I am having issues with actually getting this build's defenses and recovery where I want them...any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am trying to get soft cap s/l/e/n or softcap positional defenses, doesn't have to be both but that would be better...I know DA is traditionally slot and end heavy, I remember that...but it seems like I need 5 or 6 slots on everything to get any defense bonuses that mean enough...

Werner's your guy for any kat/da questions. But, personally, if I were running your build, I would tear my eyes out at the inadequate +recovery. Additionally, most people aim for 32.5% ranged/Aoe defense (melee capped with DA).
-You don't need both of the first attacks - gambler is better DPA
-Why bother getting CoF if you're not going to slot it? Needs more acc/end
-Dark Regen needs acc
-If you're building this from a munchkin's ST DPS point of view, include an achilles' heal -res IO or two
-include the entire set of gaussians.
Much more. Have you played this to 50? You should. It will give you an idea of where your priorities lie, def vs recharge vs recovery.

I know the recovery sucks but in building for defense and recharge the recovery is lost somewhere...any suggestions for defensive slotting that's more efficient slot usage?

A few days ago, I played around with the idea of reslotting my dusty kat/da. This build was something I came up with. As a caveat, I don't subscribe to the min/max mentality - I slot for survivability & fun above all. Nonetheless, it could give you some ideas you had not considered.

Personally I wouldn't try to soft cap S/L/E/NE as a Kat/DA. I'd rather go for Ranged/AoE. With just the defensive powers available to a Kat/DA as well as the two 3% Def Uniques, you'll have about 23-24% Def to all positions. With some slotting just one application of Divine Avalanche will bring you to the melee soft cap which means there is absolutely no need to chase for Melee Def set bonuses letting you concentrate on Ranged and AoE.
As for the attack chain, I'm not sure which does better DPS: GC>GDF>GC>SD>GC>DA, GC>GDF>GC>SD>DA or GC>GDF>DA>SD. I did the calculations a while back, but lost them as I changed to a new computer. I'm sure, however, that someone else (like Werner) has this stuff somewhere at hand.

I tweaked it some more to get things a little more the way I wanted them...still not sure, if I am 100% happy with it...would like a little more recharge globally...but I don't see how I could get it without sacrificing something of more value...I think I can run top chain as is...but just barely...would prefer more overlap than this...
