Inspiron 1318 and CoH Freedom: A Love/Hate Story Lov

So, I'm trying to get City of Heroes up and running on an older laptop. it's a Dell Inspiron 1318. Whenever I boot CoH, I get music but no display. It said something about graphics drivers being out of date, but I can't seem to find any newer than 2009. If it's not the graphics drivers causing the issue, how do I find out what IS causing it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It is likely to be your graphics drivers given their date. There may be other issues as well.

Please follow the steps in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums and post the output of CoH Helper (at a minimum) and HiJackThis into this thread.

I hate laptops. I hate Intel laptops that use Intel integrated graphics. Sadly the Dell Inspiron 1318 is one of those.

Also, I must say that I have tried to find current drivers for this thing for the last week with no avail. If I can get this thing running CoH, I may just be able to shark my MacBook back from her so I can play lol.

You can find the driver support page here.

And here's the link to the most current Win7 64-bit driver installer page.

And here's a DIRECT link to the executable.

These drivers are from late 2009. HOPEFULLY they'll work for you. I just wouldn't expect miracles or anything.

Those are the ones I have installed

There are no newer drivers for that chipset. Intel stopped supporting that chipset with drivers in favor of newer low-end chipsets.

You could try lowering the resolution to 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600 but that would be one of the few things you might be able to do to resolve the problems if you are going to continue to try to use that laptop for playing CoH.

That graphics chipset wasn't designed for gaming. It was designed for running basic Windows programs like Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Internet Browsers and the like.

It will do a fair job for the things it was designed to do when it was released in 2009, but playing graphics intensive games was not one of those functions.
