(Note that last time I played was end of 2005)
For my second character, I have made a doctor themed character who is a Empathy/Radiation defender. I'd have gone with a controller, but I thought having the best of the best for healing would be most suitable for a doctor character.

I know since I want to be a doctor, I am going to get every Empanty power, that, and none of them are really bad to begin with. But when it comes to secondary, I am not sure what I should choose, except that I don't think I really that cone attack all that much.

Going to with Super Jump, Super Speed and that celerity +stealth so I don't have to also get the Stealth power. These new inventions are pretty cool, they had only just released the last time I played heavily. Kinda cool that one can basically replace a power, and not waste end either by having two toggles! Recall Friend too, because sometimes things backfire and you have to rez. (Though good teams you rarely have to, but things happen)

But anyways, are there any recommendations people can make when it comes to powers and slotting? There are just so many options now, before there were just SO and HO's, eh heh!

Defender heals are better than trollers, BUT controllers have a "better" Power Boost. When Power Boost is activated you'll actually heal more than a defender with Power Build-Up.

Power Boost and Power Build-Up both increase the efficiency of secondary powers like mez, debuff's, buff's, and heals.

Power Build-Up (hero defender epic power) is like a Power Boost plus a "build up".
Power Boost (hero controller epic power) doesnt give a acc/dam boost, but the secondary's are boosted more than PBU.

You can always unlock the villian Epics to get Power Boost on a defender.

all this to say you don't HAVE to play a defender to be "the best of the best for healing"

to give you a idea of the number's... my ill/emp has 45% global recharge
plus 70% from Hasten. My PB has a recharge of 40sec. the duration is 15 sec.
So..about a third of the time my healz are better than a defender's.

even a defender's heals with the villian PB is < a troller with PB (about equal actually)

again, I'm not suggesting you should do one or the other, just that you have more options for the "ultimate he4Lzor"

If you dont want a epic pool with power boost then ignore everything above.

also the base rech on PBU is 4mins. PB is 2mins.

Depending on your play style, it could be counter productive to generate alot of agro with AOE's n such.

all this to say you don't HAVE to play a defender to be "the best of the best for healing"
What about the pre-epic game where heals are needed more? What about the 60-90% of the time when PB won't be up? What about heal enhancements+set bonuses+spiritual? What about Clarion?

All of these work in the defender's advantage, and I don't think you're taking it into account.

As for a build, just focus on getting recharge from set bonuses, and don't forget vital things like slotting Fortitude for recharge and defense.

Well, I also wanted to be able to do some damage for the team too, so that is why I also went with Defender. That, and it's RP, so of course a doctor is going to burn people with radiation =p

I didn't want a full blown build, just some tips, but I'll definitely look into it. Then when I can afford some better stuff, I'll upgrade with a respect. But thank you nonetheless, something like that is what I am looking for when I play 'im.
