Regen Build...

I have been tinkering with this for about 3 days off and on...I don't know I can do much better without getting a few more purple sets...see any areas I could improve defense/regen/recharge without sacrificing too much?

Probably because it's so off base people might be thinking its a joke.

I will ask what I ask for most builds that I see like this. What is your goal. What are you trying to achieve? Your post just says 'better'. Better is a very relative term :/

When I look at your build, I see so many bonuses being chased. You are stretching yourself thin, not getting good bonuses and achieving things that don't matter. 5 slotting numina's gives you 3.3% res held. That does NOTHING! I reccomend looking at other build requests with /Regen in the topic (doesn't need to have claws specifically) so you can get a good idea what people in the general populace are doing.

Remember: The key to IOing is to choose one primary bonus to seek, and then a secondary one.

On a seperate note. Do you have endurance problems that you are seeking that much recov/+end bonuses? I suggest slotting attacks better with some endurance reduction. That will go a long way.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

He 3-slotted Boxing... with Rope A Dope... including the stun/range. This HAS to be a joke.

Suggestions

1. Slot for Defense > Recharge > Slot for Regen/Recovery

2. Rule of 5: You cannot have more than 5 of the same bonuses.

3. You're trying to slot everything and that is not conducive to a balanced build.

Review your build and try to build it using those suggestions, they'll really help you out.

Ok, let me start off by saying I was gone from CoX since issue 12...that's the last time this toon was "state of the art"...I knew what I was doing a lot better then as well. Since I have been back (1 mo. yesterday) I have been trying to get this toon "up to speed" so to speak.

Last time I was playing this character having IH perma was important...now that is not even relatively possible. So, I did some digging for a /Regen guide, and no one has made one since issue 12 that I can find, and I know that much.

What I want for this toon is essentially 3 things...the most regen I can get, the defense as close to soft cap as possible, and the most resistances I can get, also, I was thinking of going musculature for Alpha, so I was trying to get as much +recovery as I could to accomodate for no help from the Alpha slot. Recharge is a priority on DP, IH, MoG, and main attacks...

While this may seem to be a "joke" to some...constructive feedback would be most appreciated...were I joking there would have been some disclosure...

How's this look?

ULTIMATE REGEN GUIDE I22

I apologize for my earlier comment, it was quite unnecessarily rude.

First, some general thoughts on building with /regen. As /regen you already have a great deal of self-healing and regeneration, but very little mitigation. Set bonuses, however, give a flat amount of either, and don't care how much you already have. +100% regeneration from set bonuses is quite significant to a set like /Invuln that doesn't have much healing to start with, but it's a drop in the bucket to /regen. This means, for survivability, you're better off building for defense (for mitigation) and recharge (to have your heal buttons up more often), as Santorican said. High recharge also has the nice side effect of enabling a better attack chain.

More specifically to the build you posted, the Rule of 5 means that some of your set bonuses are completely wasted, and doing nothing for you, specifically the +1.87% hp set bonuses, of which you have 9. Mids can show you Rule of 5 violations in Window -> Sets & Bonuses. In fact, with Dull Pain and accolades, you should be able to cap your hp with very few +hp set bonuses at all. As long as I'm on that note, you should account for accolades in Mids if you have earned them, and you should work on earning them if you have not

Your powers are underslotted for endurance reduction. Putting a few more slots towards that, combined with Quick Recovery and the innately low costs of Claws, could allow you to do without recovery set bonuses and Physical Perfection. Follow Up should be slotted as an attack, not a tohit buff, meaning it needs accuracy and damage. Your attacks are somewhat underslotted in general - even a cheap triple from Crushing Impact or Multi-Strike can often round out an attack's enhancement values nicely once you have the set bonus from it that you desire.

Diamagnetic is an unusual Interface choice, especially for a scrapper. The DoT Interfaces are almost universally the best.

Well, I can imagine that not everyone comes in looking specifically and expressly for advice or criticism sincerely...so your initial apprehension is understandable....apology accepted...

Now, back to a more serious note...

How, on earth am I supposed to get any defense?? Any of the sets that offer it in bonuses require 6 slotting mostly...

Also, is there a way to get my resistances to the cap if chasing defense is moot?

How small can I make the gap between MoG being up and down?

How close can I make the "gap" between IH?

This is what I have come up with so far...any ideas?

ULTIMATE REGEN GUIDE I22

Posted

You won't be able to get meaningful resistances on a regen other than slotting up tough and resilience, let alone cap it.

I'd aim for recharge and getting as much s/l def as possible, as well as +hp and some regen.

I suck at regen builds but I put one together just to see what I could do, it's too expensive for what I got - 32.8% s/l def (1 small purple away from the softcap), I know people have managed to get to 45% and still get a bootload of recharge. Anyway although my build is bad compared to what the regen experts do, the general idea is that - defense, recharge and +hp.

Edit: You've gone the right way in Soul Mastery (unlike the build I posted lol), people are using shadow meld as a panic button since it recharges fast, I forgot about that because my regen is only level 20 but since she's katana I'm chasing melee/ranged def so it's a very different build.

You've got the right idea with the Kinetic Combat. Smashing and Lethal defense is very useful because most melee attacks in the game have either a smashing or lethal component to them, as well as several ranged attacks. It's a good compromise to trying to cap melee, ranged, and aoe which require so much focus that you're build won't have room for much else. Try to fit in Kinetic Combats all over the place, if you can. Slot up boxing and brawl if you have too. For powers that you actually plan on using, six slot them with four slots being used to fit in Kinetic Combat, one slot with a higher level Acc/Dam IO to make up for slotting low level IO's, and then the final slot to fill in whatever deficiencies you have left in the power, or, usually more preferably, a damage proc.

Now, I know this part is going to feel particularly off for you if you last played in issue 12, but regen scrappers really aren't about standing around and regenerating anymore. Today, the regeneration scrapper is about using their click heals to re-actively stay alive during combat. You're more like a self-centered empathy defender than you are a fire and forget Wolverine. That doesn't mean you aren't still sturdy as all hell, but it does mean you need to adopt a different mindset in how you build and play your scrapper.

To put it simply, the regeneration bonuses you can get from IO sets aren't powerful enough to place a lot of focus on them. You won't need maximum HP bonuses either because you should be shooting for perma dull-pain. What you really want more than anything on a regeneration scrapper today is recharge. You have several powerful healing abilities that are on long cool-downs; the faster they come back the more survivable you will be. Just comparing my own regeneration scrapper, you are healing about 7 HP a second more than me with your focus on regeneration, but at the same time I have about 60% more recharge than you.

Ditch the Numina and replace it with Doctored Wounds which offers a much more useful global recharge buff. You'll need at least 5 slots in order to get the global recharge buff, which is exactly how much you should slot your healing powers for, and no more. Start with things that would benefit from the slotting the most, such as Dull Pain, Reconstruction, and Instant Healing.

Try to place powers which say things like "has a chance of giving you 10% endurance" into powers like Fast Healing and Health. Definitely replace one of your performance shifters in Stamina for the one that has a chance to give you endurance. Since powers like these are always on, the game 'procs' the chance for them to go off every ten seconds. In other words, every ten seconds you will have a percent chance to recover 10% endurance. IO's like these will give your character a lot more stamina to work with and keep you in the fight for a much greater period of time, if not indefinitely. With all the new global recharge you should be getting, you will need the extra endurance as you will be attacking at a much faster rate than before.

Try to fit in Maneuvers. It has no perquisites and you have room for another power pool, so you just need to drop a power to fit it in. I elect dropping Revive, which really has little use now that we are able to combine three inspirations into a new one, such as the ones that bring you back from death. You shouldn't be planning on dying anyway, and it's a simple matter of recovering from it even if you do.

That's my general advice for right now. Bullet points to work on with your build are:

Get more Recharge. Aim for enough recharge to Perma Dull Pain as a good beginning ballpark, and then see if you can't get perma-hasten with some incarnate abilities, ie: Spiritual.

Get more defense. Focus on getting about 30% S/L Defense, and then see where you can afford to squeeze in more.

Don't worry about regeneration. It really doesn't make as much difference as it used too.

Once Christmas stuff has settled down I'll look into making a sample Claws/Regen build for you to reference. In the mean time try to look back at old posts about regeneration to get more of an idea about how the set should be built today. Pay special attention to posters named Werner, Bill Z Bubba, Umbral, Evil Gecko, and Arcanaville, as these guys probably know the mechanics of the set better than anyone else.

I see you've got Reactive Core Interface, which is okay, but Reactive Radial is better for most purposes.

You should include a Steadfast Protection: Res/Def somewhere. 3% defense to everything for one slot is fantastic.

You've got six 5% recharge bonuses, so you could drop one for something else.

If you pull the LotG: Defense from Combat Jumping and use the slot for a LotG: Def/End in Weave, you'd get the same total defense with slightly lower end cost.

Fire and cold attacks are far less common than energy/negative energy, which are in turn far less common than smashing/lethal. So, consider trading those Aegis sets for 4 pieces of Reactive Armor.

If you find end to be a problem, you might need to put more slots in Stamina/QR. A third slot with a plain 50 endmod IO would get you much closer to the ED cap.

The heal enhancements in Health aren't providing you a great deal of benefit; you could save a slot there and/or drop a Miracle: +Recovery there if needed.

Overall though, this looks much better than the first builds you posted.

After tweaking this some more, I settled on this build...Apocalypse set will be expensive, and I'm sure a few other pieces will be too, but I will see where I end up...

That looks much improved. You've still got one too many 5% recharge set bonuses, and I think you'd be better off with the Radial interface than Core (really, +50 damage to every attack is better than -2.5% resist), but it should be perfectly playable even as-is.

Just out of curiousity how much recharge globally would it take to get instant healing permanent?

IH has a base recharge of 650s, and a duration of 90s. Recharge caps at +400%, which is very difficult to reach without outside buffs, but even if you do get that somehow, it would still only recharge in (650/(1+4)) = 130 seconds, a full 40 seconds short of perma. In other words, perma-IH is impossible. You can use Burnout to do two IHs back to back, though, and you could mix in a Rebirth Radial destiny power for another large regen boost when IH is down.
