I don't know what I'm doing anymore
It appears you really like fireball... but if you're able to give that up... I find that clicking Shadow Meld (stalker epic pool) allows my /fire toon to jump into almost any spawn and survive until the danger is over. It also fits with the strategy of building for recharge to get my heal, AoE attacks, and damage buff powers up as fast as possible. It has a really long animation, but I just click in on the way into the spawn and then cut loose with the AoE goodness once I'm in the middle of the pile.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

Maybe I could change the build a little so that it's a more traditional katana build, with Achilles Heel procs in all my attacks. Or maybe I could pick up Flashing Steel. It's not a great power, but it would give me a little more AOE.
Either way, I'll take this into consideration.
Anyone else have some feedback? Or should I just go for it and whatever happens happens?
First reroll a Brute and save yourself a lot of headaches. I rerolled my level 50 Katana/Fire Scrapper because Burn is useless when everything runs, but Burn with a taunt aura and Fury is unbelievably awesome.
That said, your mitigation needs some work. If you are going to go S/L, which goes against DA, then get it to 45%.
I would suggest not going that way. Instead, shoot for 32.5% melee and ranged defense, so melee caps with one DA and both cap with one small purple. Not only will this work better in fringe situations, but you will have more room for extra set bonuses like +Hit Points, +Damage (because you are going with Mako's and Oblits) and +Recharge. You will also have more slots with this set up to get resistance.

Here's a base from which you can start tweaking.

I left Gambler's Cut blank because I didn't know if you wanted to go with the purple set with a -Resist proc. If not it can hold another Mako's.
If you don't want to grind hero merits for the PvP +3% defense then put another Mako's into Gambler's Cut and build out Blazing Aura with another Obliteration.
Another option is to drop Super Jump, use Ninja Run, and pick up Laser Beam Eyes for Thunderstrike's ranged defense.
With this build I would go Spiritual for extra recharge.

Why is Divine Avalanche used as a mule? That's one of the best parts of being Katana. I get you were going for S/L defense but still... You can probably get away with such slotting as a /SR. But with other secondaries it is part of your bread and butter not getting killed powers.
I'd recommend slotting for positionals instead since you already have a very good starting point with Divine Avalanche, Weave, and Combat Jumping.
So, I have this Fire/Katana toon that I love to death. Leveling her was a blast, and with DA she was really pretty survivable. However, I'm started to get tired of relying on DA, and when so much of the high-level content pretty much walks all over DA, I felt that I needed to re-work the build. The problem is, I've re-worked it at least half a dozen times and at this point I'm feeling totally lost.
My goals were 32.5-35% def to sm/l and en/-en damage, the best recharge I can get, and a focus on AOE damage. The lack of taunt aura can be frustrating, but when she's performing at her peak most things don't survive after an AOE chain of (FE/Buildup)Lotus Drops-Fireball-Burn. I haven't even gotten her incarnate stuff yet, so I fully expect her to be amazing.
The problem now, like I said before, is that she's on her fifth or sixth reworking and because of it, her survivability in-game is lacking. I posted a build below that I was thinking about working with, but I feel that I'm missing something obvious that would help. I'm planning to go agility core alpha, reactive radial interface, and pyronic core judgment.
Can anyone point out to me anything I'm doing that's stupid or unecessary? Or anything that I haven't thought about yet?
