Most esteemed build gurus. Please lend your help with my build. I thought after reading the forums and the defense guides etc that I would be a god of survival but that does not hold true. I'm 90% pve tanking etc for my vg and a little pvp thrown in. Ive been thru MIDS and i just cant see how to make it better. What am I missing? Go for positional rather than typed? Get resists higher?(my budget can probably afford a Gladiator or Shield wall unique if needed and I can find one) <scratches his head>
Goals:
1. better survivability
2. more damage output
3. discover how/why the Cims with their claws are getting through

The problem isn't necessarily the build, but the enemies you are fighting. If you are facing enemies with -defense debuffs, they will render your defense ineffective because you have no defense debuff resistance, causing a cascade of defense failure. Cims are notorious for this.

Also, remember that if you are fighting enemies that deal something other than attacks with a smashing or lethal component, your defense will not protect you. Another threat is foes with +tohit buffs.

Here are my recommendations:

1. Take power surge at 50. When you find yourself facing enemies that can eliminate your defense, use power surge to make your resistances incredible.

2. Take cardiac or resilient as your alpha power. This will increase your resistances, giving you more room when you defense fails.

3. Use barrier to increase your smashing/lethal defense to 45%. This will make it twice as effective, as you will go from taking 10% (50-40) to 5% (50-45) damage.

4. Use Darkest night liberally.

5. Learn which enemy groups and specific enemies are threat and use tactics to deal with them

You have Power Sink slotted for taunt. This is a mistake. Slot for end red and use it to sap enemies. This will let survive prolonged combat with lower or rebuffed defense.


Edit: Also, you skipped shockwave. Shockwave is a fantastic mitigation tool to disrupt alphas. Look at any video of high end claws gameplay and you will see shockwave is a huge tool for survival.

It's slotted for Taunt to get the 2.5% S/L defense bonus. As such, it's not an unreasonable choice, especially if it's a step on the way to a fully soft-capped build.

Sapping is rather hit or miss as mitigation: I use extensively it on my SS/ElA brute, but I've got Mu Mastery with Electrifying Fences and Ball Lightning to back up Lightning Field and Power Sink. Without those additional sources of end drain, PS and LF by themselves don't stop the spawn from attacking you. It slows them down somewhat, yes, but the question is whether that is worth the loss of 2.5% S/L defense. The options for squeezing the last 5% S/L defense out to hit the soft cap are rather limited.

Since the main problem with this kind of build is the defense cascade failure, keeping your defense as high as possible is key.

So, depending on the character's goals it may well be better to trade off sapping ability for that defense.

Eh. I can see the draw of the taunt set, but I still think it's a mistake. Agility will buff the end mod of power sink enough that with heavy slotting it can completely drain a mob in one hit. At the same time agility will add enough defense to maneuvers, weave, and combat jumping to cover the loss of the 2.5 def bonus, while giving a recharge bonus.

Agility is definitely a viable choice, but I prefer Spiritual to boost Energzie (both the heal/regen and recharge of it).

I think Agility will only work out to 2% defene.

Rodion is correct that I slotted taunt in PS for the s/l defense.
Deus i think I like the proposed changes. I can always run a respec and try them out or use my alt spec. Ill have to check the BM for the hamis or try to get in on some raids. Not sure how often they happen on Pinnacle.
Death, I can see the value of slotting PSink for the end drain to hinder the inc def cascade failure and I will have to consider that.
I just got back to the game and havent ever worked with incarnates so ill have to trust you all on this. Agility seems at first glance to be the way to go but I guess Ill have to consider all options before deciding and... i can always change it right? How tough is that?
My opening is to use dark obliteration and Darkest Night to get the debuffs then run in and hit spin or focus and go from there depending on whether its a single or group.
Perhaps just using darkest night is enough and not worry about Dark Oblit and get slash in for another kinetic set. I dont really care for Power Surge or the other powers with crash. Ive always got bitten in the a$$ using them.
You all have given some good ideas to ponder. Thank you.
