- I'd like to have an automatic costume change with emote available when I go to a trainer to switch to an alternate build.
- I'd like to have some way to switch to an alternate build without having to go to a trainer (still having a cooldown period is fine, though).
Link a Costume Slot to an alternate build
Both decent ideas. Of course if there was a command line method of changing builds you could do it all with one macro. So maybe we only "need" the second option?
This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

I agree that these two suggestions could be reduced to one with the proper command line commands. But even the second suggestion has been suggested many times over the years without any hint the Devs would allow it.

The main reason why the Devs linked build changes to the trainers in the first place was to completely prevent any attempts of anyone trying to exploit the benefit of a build change during PvE or PvP combat. It's not that build changes require a trainer to accomplish - it's that having to travel to a trainer physically enforces the safeguard the Devs want to maintain here. And it's not even a question of a "cooldown period" either because even if they gave us a remote build change command with a timer the fact that you could potentially change even once during combat would likely be considered too overpowered.
For these reasons I doubt the Devs will ever make it any easier to accomplish build changes. *shrugs*

Ah, well. It would have been plenty dramatic for my Dual Pistols/Energy Manipulation guy to start blazing away with the guns, have the fight start to go pear-shaped, then go berserk and turn into a blapper werewolf. heh.
Council lieutenants can do it; it could even be an option linked to the Return to Battle perk power. That would be cool too.
As I recall, one of the Devs, Castle or Posi I think, said they'd be "OK" with on demand build switching as long as it caused all of your powers to go through a cool-down cycle.

Sure but that's akin to saying something like, "I wouldn't mind owning my own Boeing 747 as long as I didn't have to pay $200 million for it."

Basically they were telling us that even though there might be a "better" solution for the situation having to come up with a way to make sure all of our powers to go through a special cool-down cycle to account for a build change would take far too much time and effort to develop. Forcing us to go to a trainer might be considered an less than ideal way to handle it, but it was a relatively simple and foolproof way to make sure no one can do anything "naughty".
Again I just don't think the Devs will ever consider this to be a big enough "problem" to ever be worth having to figure out a better way to handle it.
