New player needing some build help

So trying to figure out my first corruptor build. And tried searches on forums many times for fire/time builds but got no luck. The slotting levels is not correct I basically went for abilities first then figured out what to slot. I may need to redo it all and slot by level but not sure. So any thoughts on this:

Short format with a data chunk is much easier to read and work with.

You probably want to look at using PB or PBU with Farsight, that means Power or Soul APP.

There are some Time builds in my archives.

Just eyeballing it here, but I have to say that it looks like a bit of a mess. You've got a number of key powers under-slotted and judging by the list of set bonuses you aren't really going after the useful ones. you've got a decent amount of recharge which is good but the rest are either to low to make much difference (damage and defense) or not particularly useful.

Some general thoughts/comments:

1. When slotting Positron's Blast I rarely find it worth going for six slots. The last bonus (Toxic Resistnace) is of limited usefulness and the set as a whole is heavily over-slotted for damage. Consequently I tend to leave out the Damage/Range enhancement and save a slot (for cone powers you might prefer to drop the Damage/Recharge depending on your build).

2. Distortion Field could really use some love. It provides a surprising amount of survivability from it's recharge debuffs. At the very least I'd recommend putting a Lockdown chance to hold proc in it. I'd also look at a little bit more recharge and hold duration. Slow enhancement is not critical in it, especially if you stack it with Time's Juncture.

3. For Tough if you only have one slot, stick in a Steadfast Protection +3% Defense IO. It'll be a lot more useful than the Aegis special.

4. I'd move the Numina and Miracle specials to Heath so they are always on instead of in your heals (exception would be if you wanted to 6-slot Numina somewhere). Conversely slotting Health for regular healing enhancements isn't that useful. In terms of regeneration per slot you get more benefit form the Regenerative Tissue unique than you do from a level 50 Healing enhancement.

5. The Performance Shifter proc in Chrono Shift is pretty much wasting a slot, you don't use Chrono Shift enough to really benefit.

6. For Blaze and Blazing Bolt if I could only slot one of them it would not be Blazing Bolt (well, I actually wouldn't take a snipe on a Time character but that's a personal preference). You're going to use Blaze a lot more than Blazing Bolt so it needs the slots more.

7. You REALLY want some accuracy in Slowed Response. It does you absolutely nothing if it misses.

Sorry was my first time using the builder so did not know which way to export it for the best results.

As for slotting yes a lot of it was guessing except I knew my main spells that i use are Fire Blast, Fire Ball, Rain of Fire and Temp Mending. So I was attempting to max them out. And I must be one of the few people that does not have good luck with the cone powers. Never seem to get many with it.

I guess maybe I did not understand the Distortion Field ability.

I figured the snipe attack was a good leadoff attack thats why I slotted it more but can definately change that if it won't get more use. Also what ability do you think instead of Blazing Bolt?

I can look at 6 slotting Numina's into Chrono also. If Miracle is not a good fit for Temp Mending any suggestions?

Thank you 2 again for the replies

Well leading with Blazing bolt can be effective, the problem is that on time Manipulation you really want to be leading with a debuff. Given the tightness of your build I'd probably replace it with a power that doesn't need slotting. Combat Jumping, assault or Maneuvers would be my top picks. The other side of it is that Blaze does almost as much dmaage as Blazing Bolt anyway so I'd recommend goign for the fast animating power over the snipe.

Miracle as a set is a pretty good choice for Temporal Mending, you just don't need all six pieces. the proc is much better in Health but 5-slotting Miracle for the AoE defense bonus is not a bad option. Alternatively 5-slotting Doctored Wounds for the recharge bonus is a good option. Regarding Numina's if you are going to 6-slot it anywhere I'd recommend Temporal Mending, you want to make sure to use the power it's in every 2 minutes to refresh the recovery buff and that's easier to do with Mending.

Ok if I got rid of Blazing Bolt and was looking at Maneuvers. If I went for that would it be better to slot it then Weave? And do I need 4 def toggles? Scorp Shield, Maneuvers, Tough and Weave? Been spending a lot of time trying to get everything reslotted because I got about 4 lvls I need to train up on my toon. Here is the changes so far not counting reslotting of Maneuvers. Also Assault looks good since I am mainly there for dps but I do like to live to deal it.
Was thinking of dropping Tough and moving slots from Weave to Maneuvers but not sure. In the slot for Tough pick up Assault

Or is Inferno worth taking?

Well the magic number for Defense is 45%. With Scorpion Shield you can hit the softcap for Smashing and Lethal Defense very easily which then means you can either use slots to build up other defense types or recharge. In general S/L attacks are very common from NPCs so S/L defense is worth building up.

Here's an example using your power choices but reslotting them. I tried to keep to a similar budget as your original build, their are some pricier pieces (such as the Basalisk's Gaze and the LotG 7.5%s) which you might want to get with merits. It's soft-capped to Smashing/Lethal, almost soft-capped for energy (44%) and has close to perma-chronoshift. The one thing I'm not keen on is Focused Accuracy, it's very expensive in terms of endurance and I think you'll find yourself running short if you use it a lot. In theory you shouldn't need it though with the to hit buff form farsight.

Thanks for the build. Ithink i may use that but tweak it some. I just dont seem to have luck with fire breath so may use a couple of those slots somewhere. Not sure where. The Perma Chronoshift is nice. I guess if you have other thoughts besides focused accuracy that's changeable. Wasnt sure how much accuracy i would need.

Out of curiosity, what are the key set bonuses for time? it needs some recharge but doesn't seem to need a huge amount (certainly seems to be fine on less than traps for example).

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Gavin: Primarily you want Chron-Shift as close to 90 seconds as possible. Other considerations are minimal redraw, endurance management, defensive synergy, and offense.

Knctrnl: I personally cringe at using Time with any APP other than one with PB or PBU. But I'll admit, my third choice would be scorpion shield.

As a Defender:

  • PBU + Farsight + GI + Maneuvers = Standard Softcap of the entire team, including self.
  • Clarion Radial T4 + Farsight + GI + Maneuvers = Incarnate Softcap of the entire team, including self.

On the postive side, As a Corruptor, i can still softcap using a PvP IO, and can almost softcap without it. I may or may not be able to do the Incarnate Softcap of the entire team with Clarion Radial T4. I'll have to check all the numbers and check a spreadsheet for the Corruptor versions.

On the negative side, as a Corruptor, my type of build will almost certainly cost you 1 pvp defense IO, or 2.5 to 4.5 billion more than the defender version. It's that cost, or being happy with being very near to the soft-cap. If you don't have the cash, and aren't willing to let the -tohit make up the 3 or 4% difference, then the SLE version may start looking more attractive. Personally, I'd probably just let the -to-hit make up the difference, then buy the PvP much later using A-Merits or Empyrians if I still felt like I needed it once I tested the -to-hit in-combat with all my other mitigation powers fully built and slotted at level 50.

Please also note, endurance burn on Time is high, and endurance burn on Fire Blast is high. This means your build without some type of endurance management will be much more difficult to solo than average. IE, I built for lesser endurance burn, and I added in endurance management, and I sill rarely toggle drop. Were I fire blast, that rare toggle drop would happen more often. If I were Fire blast without endurance management, I'd be toggle dropping annoyingly often.

Something like the following, but adding a PvP Defense IO later to seal up all the defenses. Without the PvP, you are FCEN soft-capped with PB+FS*. Melee SL is ~2.5 defense short.

If we ever get the 3 bonus slots for i22, then I'd say swap flare for tactics, 6 slot guassians, and you just sealed all your defenses. Use the other two slots for procs, recharge, or set bonuses. But that's going to be at least i22 before it happens.

Prior to i22, you could do the same with a PvP Defense IO.

*It's difficult to show correct defense numbers in mids when using PB, PBU, or Clarion Radials. These powers boost click powers for the duration of the click, but only boost toggle powers for the very short duration of the boost portion of the PB, PBU, Clarion, typically 10 seconds.

Alpha 1 variant using Fire Blast. (That means I could probably build it even better if I had enough time or interest.)
