Installation Stage 2 doesn't download

I've downloaded the NCSoft Launcher and started the installation yesterday. Throughout the process there was a number of times when the launcher just flat out crashed, some of which involved a message about attempting to access protected memory (note: I'm reasonably sure my desktop's RAM is fine; both modules have been installed two months ago and everything I run here has been stable except for the Launcher).
Eventually, it completed downloading the first stage of installation and I went on to character creation. Once done (about 1 and 1/2 hours from the start), I've found three things: first, I could not save my newly created character; second, Stage 2 did not download at all and was at 0% progress; third, after tabbing back to Windows I found that the Launcher has displayed a window with the message "The operation has timed out". I've attempted restarting the Launcher entirely, but the issue continues to occur. Effectively, I am unable to do anything but mess with the character designer.

Running the "City of Heroes Helper" as described in the sticky thread gives me the following error message before the program finishes:

Quote:
Unable to read your City of Heroes registry information!
Your City of Heroes registry information was not found. Make sure you are running the program under the same Windows user you use to run the game. If you are using Windows Vista and normally enter your Admin account password to run the game you will need to right click on this program and select the "Run as Administrator" menu option to run this program as an administrator as well
I am running the program on the same user account in my OS. The account has administrator permissions.
This is the log generated afterwards:

There have been multiple logs saved in the NCSoft Launcher's program directory. Since all of them are massive walls of text, I've put copies of the log contents on Pastebin if they're needed for reference:

Per the most recently updated System Requirements, the minimum OS requirements are Windows XP w/ Service Pack 3 installed.

The first step in trying to correct your problems would be to install Service Pack 3. I'd also recommend installing any security or critical updates that are available as well.

Another thing would be to free up some disk space. Three of your drives report less than 5% free disk space on each. Windows gets a bit wonky at times when drive spaces reach those low levels.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thank you for pointing this out. Looks like I forgot to turn on the updates on my desktop once I subscribed for my internet connection. Update download is underway, will report if there's any changes with the updates installed.

My swap file is set to a constant 1,5 GB precisely to avoid that sort of problems.

On further note, the issue appears to be caused by resuming the download after NCSoft Launcher has been closed. I've uninstalled the game and redownloaded it from scratch. Stage 2 started out fine and progressed to 9% before I had to shut down the machine for the night. This morning I've tried to resume the download and found myself facing the timeout error again.

Is it possible for me to install the game on another machine and then copy the files over to my desktop?

Yes. Copy the files from the other computer, start the installation on this computer and let it run for a minute or so. Stop the installation and paste the files from the other computer in the installation directory.

At this point, start the NCLaucher and right-click the City of Heroes listing then select Repair (Consistency Check).

As for the free space, I'm not talking about strictly the swap file. Several Windows functions start getting buggy or refuse to run correctly with disk space below around 20%. Most of those functions were coded to look at the % of free space instead of the actual amount of free space, and when it gets low they start having issues.

I am also stuck at 0% stage 2 download.

I played the game for 2 or 3 years, have been absent for about 2 more years and want to come back, but I am at a loss on how to even get into the game again. I paid 15 bucks for a month and I'm getting pretty frustrated.

I went to work for 6 hours and came back and it said it was done, but when I started it up, stage 1 reloaded again and I was at 0% for stage 2. I can't seem to get past that zero percent. I made a new character and sat and watched, but stage 2 wasn't making any progress. Should I just leave it on overnight, hoping it does something?

I've already tried two things:

1. I tried clicking on Repair (Consistency Check). All that does is reload stage 1 and leave me in the same boat with nothing happening for stage 2.

2. I checked to make sure I had enough free space. I clicked on "computer," hit the "free space" tab, and then clicked on the C drive. It says I have 659 gigs of free space. As I understand it, that should be more than enough.

What else can I try? Fair warning, if you hadn't already guessed, I'm not especially tech-savvy. I'll try any suggestion, to the best of my very limited ability.

Hi guys,

I've talked this issue over with some of the developers, and we're having trouble with the Pastebin links early in the thread. If you're experiencing this problem, could you open a support ticket with all of the launcher logs attached?

Thank you very much!

What are launcher logs and how do you attach them?
