Help Understanding Seeker Drones?

I just got to level 28 on my DS/Traps and took seeker drones. I'm not sure I quite understand what's going on with them? Sometimes I summon them in battle and they just linger about and seem to do nothing. Or one will fire off, and the other won't.

What are they supposed to do, exactly?

The power summons 2 pets. It summons as a targetted AoE, much like Rain of Fire, etc. If you summon them near you, they will linger near you (and follow you around). If you summon them near (or on) enemies, they will aggro to them and get attacked, and eventually explode or detonate on the enemy. Each drone does -20% DMG and -7.5% to hit debuff, AoE. So that's -40% DMG (which AVs do not resist) and a decent to hit debuff.

They also do a small amount of damaage and have 25% chance to stun (which can stack with other stuns).

The best use for them is to summon them right in front of a spawn, and let them take the alpha. I generally run in right after I summon them, or shortly after (which one is usually dead), and start trapping away. The pets come right behind and start blasting away in relative safety. A pseudo-tank, if you will. Great power

Best,

Ok, so they don't blow up unless an enemy kills them then? But they can stun while they're still alive?

No it is their suicide explosion that stuns. They don't attack as such.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

The explosions function the same whether destroyed by a foe or by self-destruction. I would also point out: when a seeker drone is destroyed, it is often by the best, highest damage ability of the foe. This gives the mastermind a chance to set up the other traps before that ability recharges - even in close range.

Basically the seeker drones summon, will probably float around for a few seconds before running into a foe and detonating. If they are killed by an enemy then they don't detonate but they usually detonate before they are killed. All the debuffs are contained in that detonation. As people have said before, the drones are a good damage shield while you run in to set up your poison trap.

Actually, the debuff is applied whether they are killed by something else or their detonate power. The debuff is a power that the seekers have that can only be used once defeated. Them detonating is simply them wanting to get close to a target to activate their suicide power so that the debuff-after-defeat power can be activated.

This is good news in that you don't have to worry about AVs or bosses one-shotting them before their debuff is applied. Also, if you dismiss the seekers from your pet window when theya re right in the middle of a spawn, they will die and their debuff is cast immediately. Dismissing them this way acts as kind of a remote trigger. I use this method when I need to debuff a big group of tough guys or an AV right away. Unfortunately, I haven't found a bind that I can use to ONLY dismiss the seekers and leave my other pets alive.

I haven't tested/tried this myself, but it should work: "/petcom_name Seeker Drones dismiss" or something to that effect: it definitely works for MM primary powers.

I have tried that along with /petcom_pow "Seeker Drones" dismiss and both do not seem to work. It may be because the seekers are dumb pets, meaning you cannot use regular mastermind pet commands with them. I think of them as suicide fire imps seeing as how you can't control where they go or what they are going to do. All you can do is lead them into stuff or dismiss/release them.
