That build actually seems pretty solid. If I had any major concerns about it, they'd be based on your endurance usage: especially with Rage crash on top of attacks (all 8 of them ) and running Darkest Night on top of those.
Defence wise Darkest Night will be the major boost to defence & survivability but be wary of things like EBs and AVs who can resist the effects of Darkest Night.
Anyhoo, I've played around a little bit with your build (mostly rearranged a and swapped out a few IOs - should still be within your budget) and managed to scrape a little more Energy/Negative defence and made things a little more endurance friendly overall.

Ok cool. Thanks. I was wondering if it was worth taking Musculature as an alpha or if perhaps cardiac would work better to mitigate the endurance drain. Also, is it true that assault is useless on an ss/wp brute?
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm not completely sure if Assault is useless or not: I've heard that it's not as useful as it could be due to the way damage caps and Fury work, but don't know enough about the numbers to confirm or deny that.

Assault isn't literally useless on a SS/ brute, you benefit normally from the damage bonus (as do your teammates). But its personal usefulness is relatively small - a 10% damage bonus when you're already running around with +200% from Fury and Rage just doesn't matter very much. Musculature isn't as good on a Brute as it is on a Scrapper, for basically the same reason. Cardiac is much better at solving endurance problems; Vigor would probably be even better once it's released, since it gives the endurance reduction along with healing and accuracy.
Sorry for not providing more feedback on your build itself, it looks pretty solid overall, but my brain is fuzzy at this hour, I'll take another look later.
So yah I'm working on a build that's extremely survivable and has good (but not necessarily spectacular) dps. A generalist with an eye towards killing large groups of mobs. It would be cool if I could solo an AV though.
And no PvP. It might not do too badly but I don't want to dominate. Perhaps someday.
After days of suffering I got this. As you can see, I focused a lot on HP and regen, but my defenses aren't quite soft-capped. I was wondering if my dark attacks and rise to the challenge would act as a form of defense however to compensate, and it seems I'm a purple inspiration away from soft-capping anyways.
What do you think, and what can I do to improve?
(This by the way represents the limits of my price range. I cannot afford purples or PvP sets at all, nor do I have the patience to try with school going on and all.)
