I don't care where you get your powers from you can learn to use a rocket board same as you can learn to drive a car. Very very very few power concepts will prevent this.
Power concepts, sure. But there's more to concept than just the powers. I don't see a hero that likes to fight crime in a snazzy suit and tie riding around on a rocket board much.

Well to be honest if you tie yourself only to what you see in the comic books as allowable your doing limiting yourself horridly. Reasons why comic books likely shy away from it:

1. Flight powers are seen as cooler.
2. A rocket board type power has logical limits
3. Characters would be pretty vulnerable on the board and slow off of it.
4. The board could easily be exploited as a weakness (see goblin :P)

Beyond that, your limiting your own creativity by that of mass media meant to make money? Beyond that your limiting your creativity by your limited scope of knowledge of that mass media. I mean seriously the list of superheros and super villains alone is immense, much less those that wouldn't fall into those categorizations. Try checking out how many alternate earths exist for each of the big two sometime lol. Perhaps past all that you get into independent heros/villains created by folks outside of "the big guys".

I mean don't get me wrong, there are likely many things you could tell me as reasons I would gladly accept, but this one just seems like a poor reason to me. Especially since games like this are our opportunity to break out of the genre mold and do stuff that the comics won't do because they are busy trying to create controversy, drama, and most of all profit.

I mean if you wanted to you could make a Supervillain named "Marshmellow Peep" and create a backstory that makes his naming and evilness make sense. Stereotypical Insanity villain. He had a tragic moment he is unable to forget and has driven him quite mad, in his madness he latched onto a specific part of that tragic event that to him represents the beginning or cause of it and emblazons himself with the ill-fated moniker. Not being taken seriously he gets angry and goes out of his way to be extra cruel and FORCE people take him seriously.

Honestly that story right there is alot more believable than alot of the stuff that comes out of comics. You could make him a fire armor character to make him a flaming marshmellow peep and add fire to part of the tragic event for extra humor.
Then again all of this is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

If I could colour it and/or choose a different model I'd be all over it like a rash though.

Ninja/Beast however is a great way to get about. Eventually I do pick a travel power at around level 30, but it's nice not having the pressure of taking it at 14 any more.
I totally agree on the color scheme possibly being a deal breaker. The bright red and white certainly does not fit all heros/villains/looks.

You and I have very different reasons why RPGs appeal to us, it is as simple as that. I play RPGs in order to recreate the genres I love as I've come to love them. I do not play them in order to break molds, blaze new trails, or defy genre conventions. It is the conventions themselves, and their intrinsic constraints, which provide the very flavor of a genre. Without them, a genre doesn't really exist; instead it is just a mish-mash of every idea any human ever had.

The superhero genre is broad enough in its scope--containing elements of fantasy and science fiction--that I do not feel creatively limited by conforming to the conventions that have applied to the majority of superhero stories (and characters) past and present. My personal idea of the kind of superheroes I want to see in Paragon City are typified by the classic Avengers. A little tech, a little magic, a little super science, etc. Nobody in the classic Avengers line-up, not even Thor (except perhaps in the most extreme modern renditions) looks like a refugee from World of Warcraft, whereas given many of the new costume options, one could easily be forgiven for thinking a wormhole had suddenly opened up and armies of toons from Asteroth had started pouring forth into Atlas Park instead of Rikti soldiers. I try to just pretend those toons simply aren't there.

Does anyone happen to have a link to a vid demonstrating the beast travel power? Trying to decide between that and the Ninja run as a superfluous shiny. Ninja Run is pretty sweet.

I've seen that video before, and I'm assuming the beast briefly running at the beginning is the power, but I was hoping for something a little more in depth. That doesn't give me a good idea of whether I'd like it.

I don't play them to do those things either. I go outside of the normal sometimes, other times I quite enjoy playing something stereotypical. I enjoy references and recreating things at times myself. I just don't limit myself to only that. All I'm saying is your idea of a concept has additional layers of limitations on it. Instead of asking yourself how you can work a concept you seem to be asking yourself how you can disqualify a concept .

That's all good, it's your sub after all and it's what you find fun .

I also can't share your sentiments on things looking like WOW. I'm not very fond of WOW at all either. I think you could make characters that look like they came from WOW for sure, but I you could also create characters that look like they came from most universes or IP's. They've done a good job making a horrendous variety of costumes and are making more. They need to finish filling a few things out, but I don't see a set theme in general.

Also, WOW is just a convenient example/whipping boy. Almost as a rule WOW looks like everything else as it basically copied it's entire game from other sources. Granted most titles do this but some do it more shamelessly than others. To think they started because they were kicked off of a Warhammer game project and so created a copycat universe .

That's all it is. Running on all fours. There's nothing else to it. You have the same basic jump animation and you crouch a little when you're standing still. Otherwise, you run exactly like it shows.
