MA or the new StJ?

Hello,

So I’m building a WP tanker with a hand to hand fighter theme. Originally I had planned on using MA, but with the new arrival of StJ on the scene, that plan may be in jeopardy.

I wasn’t able to use StJ on the beta, and haven’t played MA yet. So which one do you think will be better for a WP tanker?

Thanks!

Earlier today I remade my level 47 invul / Elec melee tanker, into invul / StJ

Originally I was going to make her invul / SS but already had one in male form. Martial arts came over to tankers, and again thought about it, but no... Street Justice fits this characters concept perfectly.

I took electric melee as compromise.

Yes, I’m familiar with the powers of StJ. I’m curious more about actual #’s, how it feels, etc… As Dechs said, MA seems like it has a few more tools, but if StJ is doing 50+ more damage a hit, that’s pretty significant and could turn the tables.

The build would be for everything, from exemping down to do Posi all the way up to tanking i-Trials.

I don't know about 50+ more per hit. I'd imagine at the end of the day the DPS numbers are fairly in line with each other.

MA only has one AoE and it's on the weaker side, but it recharges very quickly and offers consistent knockdown. StJ has two AoEs, but one is just a melee cone. I'd imagine the other one hits much harder than Dragon's Tail, but I doubt it recharges as quickly.

Yeah, bear in mind MA is considered a fairly hard-hitting single-target set now.

Take it for what it's worth, but after playing a SR/MA tanker to 26 and just today playing a StJ/Inv scrapper to 12 I'll say that StJ "feels" faster and has quite solid damage.

The flip side is that tanker MA has that sweet +10% defense buff to all in the tier 2 attack and StJ requires a bit of thought with it's combos... but less than Dual Blades since it isn't a case of "attack x followed by y followed by z gives result q" but one of "any builder attack increases the effectiveness of a finisher attack".

StJ has better AOE than MA but neither is going to win any awards for best in class in that area. I realize I was comparing a tanker to a scrapper but even allowing for that StJ "felt" like it had better damage than MA. I haven't made a study of the numbers as of yet to clarify that but my initial impression is that MA has better utility while StJ has better damage.

If you're on the fence why not roll one of each and play them up a bit. That's what I did trying to decide between Dark/Elec and Ice/Elec; I found that the Ice/Elec was more fun and he's currently 45 while the Dark/Elec is stuck at 25.

I didn't personally get to try StJ with a granite tanker but boy was it yummy seeing a big pile of rock kicking around with MA. Cobra strike with damage, makes a mouth go mmmm.

Quick thoughts after just having gotten a Willpower/Street to 24.

It's good. Holy god is it good. I found myself smiling like an idiot as I tore through stuff like a human wrecking ball.

Since you're WP, you can go 1 Acc/3 Dam/2 Rech on attack powers. That makes the first two light strikes easily spammable. I've picked up Ribcracker, and plan to hold out for Spinning Strike and Crushing Uppercut. That said, both Sweeping Cross and Shin Breaker are damn good as well.

Far's animation times, this is a very fast set. The combo builders come in at 1.33 seconds for the longest of them. The first two lighter hits are .8 and 1.07 seconds, respectively.

I rolled a Tanker, but find myself wondering how bad$^# this set will be for a well-built Brute.

I've tried the MA Tank as well, and while good, I don't think it has nearly the feel that Street Justice has.

Street Justice just FEELS dirty and violent. You can hear ribs break, for petes sake!

as my invul/sj is now 50 and going for his alpha slot...its not gonna win any awards is right.the damage is kinda meh. it takes forever after playing a fire/fire tank for so long.it almost feels as it underperforms.

it feels alot like dual blades honestly...not winning in damage and unless you do the combos your really punchin and kickin for a long time.it is different and thats why i went with it.i think im gonna +1 it but not +3 it.
