Im just wanting to make sure i got this right......If i hit a foe with it then use the attacks that can cause it to spread, they are then hit with a weaker version of it? If i use those same attacks on the ones with the weaker version can they cause a spread too? Is this power worth keeping? I just got it and im trying to understand the best way to use it and how it works. Thanks for the help!

Disintegrate is the key power of Beam Rifle, so yes it's "worth keeping".

I don't think "weaker version of the power" is quite right, what happens is that enemies hit by spread have the Disintegrating* status effect attached to them, then when you hit them with your other powers you get additional effects like extra damage (most of the other powers), -Regen in the case of Single Shot, etc. I think enemies that got spread can also spread to others, but only to those who aren't Disintegrating yet. So if you have a mob of 3 enemies, hit Disintegrate on one, then hit him with a power that causes spread to the other two, then try to get spread from one of the other two, it won't work because all 3 are currently Disintegrating.

Disintegration Spread is where the bulk of your AoE is going to come from, and the extra DoT you get from it is, well extra damage, which is delicious with Scourge.

*I'm starting to hate Beam Rifle just because of how hard it is for me to type this word. Thankfully everything else about the set makes me love it.

I actually had to remind someone in the DfB trial not to spread disintegrate around on the "don't kill any of the cadavers until the boss is dead" section.

"No Disintegrations."

As DarkGob said, Disintegration is just a status effect. When it spreads, it's the same status effect on the other enemies as it was on the first. The only thing that is different is that the DoT on the ones that got hit with the spread is less than the original enemy that was hit with disintegrate.
