Respeccing a bots/traps MM

I've decided I am going to respec my robots/traps MM. She has the [Detonator] power, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've used it in the last six years. After doing a bit of research, it looked like the best power to replace it with would be [Provoke] from the Presence pool.

The thing is, that power only has its inherent slot (with a Nucleolus Exposure in it). If I'm going to replace Detonator with Provoke, should I bother trying to steal slots from other powers to put there? Otherwise, I think I'll just put a single taunt IO there.

Posted

I don't think there's any IO in a taunt set that enhances both accuracy and taunt duration?

Posted

Ack, you're right.

The power needs some accuracy and taunt duration is almost as important. It needs to hit, first, but duration also has an effect on how powerful it is. The recharge is well enough, so if you have a few accuracy bonuses, maybe you can get away with just a Taunt IO.

I have the Tactics power on that MM, which I use all the time.

To answer the other person's question, I've never used Mids or whatever to plan out my builds. I've gotten pretty good working it out in my head. So I don't have anything to post, unless I write it all out here by memory.

OK, I guess I will try posting it by memory. I'm at work tho, but I'm pretty sure I can remember it all.

Robotics:
---
Pulse Rifle Blast: Thunderstrike set
Battle Drones: Soulbound Allegiance set
Pulse Rifle Burst: Apocalypse set
Equip Robot: 1x level 50 end reduction IO
Photon Grenade: Ragnarok set
Protector Bots: 2x Nucleolus Exposure (50++), 2x Golgi Exposure (50++), Edict of the Master (Defensive Aura for Pets), Commanding Presence (Aura Taunt and Placate Resistance for Pets)
Repair: 1x level 50 end mod IO
Assault Bot: Sovereign Right set
Upgrade Robot: 1x level 50 end reduction IO
---

Traps:
---
Web Grenade: 1x Endoplasm Exposure (50++)
Acid Mortar: 1x Lysosome Exposure (50++)
Force Field Generator: Karma set, 3x Luck of the Gambler (Def/Rech, Def, Def/Increased Recharge Speed)
Poison Trap: 3x Lockdown (Acc/Hold, Acc/End/Rech/Hold, Chance for Mag 2 Hold)
Seeker Drones: 1x Endoplasm Exposure (50++)
Trip Mine: 1x Nucleolus Exposure (50++)
Detonator: 1x Nucleolus Exposure (50++)

Inherent Fitness:

Swift: 1x Microfilament Exposure (50++)
Hurdle: 1x level 50 jump IO
Health: Numina's Convalescence set
Stamina: Performance Shifter set

I'm pretty sure that's it. Oh, I also have the Cardiac Total Core Revamp in my Alpha slot.

EDIT: I forgot about Inherent Fitness, d'oh. Fix'd now!

Edit 2: Seems to me I can probably pull off some slots from Health and Stamina to put them into Provoke, no?

hmm I'm no expert on traps, but should Caltrops be in there, and isn't having all 3 ranged weapon attacks a bit of a waste? I'm just going on my bot/dark build, but I didn't take any of the ranged attacks, and I'm still busy. I really don't think having all 3 is in anyway useful, especially photon grenade.

*Cue Dechs for confirmation*

I had included all three ranged attacks mostly for thematic purposes (I play on Virtue). Whenever I play, I usually use the Photon Grenade to get the mobs' attention to focus on me and let my bots do their thing. I've since discovered that Provoke is better at that sort of thing.

I'm not sure if Caltrops will really help me very much, even if it's pretty good. The reason for that is my damage output is already pretty damned high.

I will likely replace the Winter's Gift set for Luck of the Gambler, and the recharge global in particular. That way I can have Poison Trap available to me more often.

EDIT: Also, what I will likely do is pull off three slots each from health and stamina, and that way I can give six slots in Provoke (and I could put in, say the entire Perfect Zinger set), plus another slot I can put somewhere else.

Edit 2: Or no, just leave Hover with its inherent slot, and that would give me 3 bonus slots to put somewhere else. I'd still put in a LotG global into Hover tho; I've already got that one twice. I could use it a third time!

Well as I said, I'm no expert on traps, but I did have a quick muck around with mids and came up with a rough idea of what potential regen, recharge and defenses you could have.

With my quick build I mustered up around 90% rech without haste, around 39-40% defense on virtually everything (without adding bot bubble of 11.18%), and a decent amount of regen without triage laid down.

I can't really comment on how well it would play out, but I'm sure the traps experts would be able to tear it apart. Not sure if you will look at it, but I'll upload it here anyway:

BTW I'm keeping Photon Grenade. Again, for thematic purposes. You know, because just using Provoke is not enough.

"Knock, knock!"

...what the...???

BLAM!!!

Plus I really like having the Ragnarok set in there. It's fun to see them get knocked down by a blast of energy.

Yes, caltrops is bloody necessary. The ranged attacks I don't have, I use Electric Fences as my attention grabbing attack because it also keeps 'em in place.

I really need to post my Bots/Traps build. I'll let you guys know when I get that up on the blog.

Okay I will bite..

Here is your build.

I would suggest you don't take provoke because it will probably give you too much unwanted attention. On a team running higher settings or an Incarnate mission your going to die fast using that power.

As Dechs said your not running on higher settings. On a 1/1 setting I don't even need my pets.

Honestly your wasting good sets in useless powers. At a minimum put the soulbound in the assault bot.

But really your not looking for what is best for your toon. Your just looking for what power is going to replace Detonator. Pick Group fly, Group invisibility, Vengeance, Triage Beacon or one power from the PPP or Ancilary pools.

Nutshell for this build it doesn't matter what you take. It offers you nothing. Your half way to nowhere. Pick what fits your "Theme" because other forum posters are trying to guess and not getting it right because we are not used to these types of request. Usually a player has a build and wants to make it better in some way. Its obvious your not looking for that.

O RLY?

Well then I guess you'll be happy to know that I spec'd out of not just Detonator, but also Resuscitate, so that I may have both Provoke and Caltrops, and that I fully slotted Provoke with the Perfect Zinger set.

Now I just have to get a hang of this new style of play before I ramp up the difficulty.

EDIT: So far I've just tried it with level 54 Heavy Assault Suits and level 54 Rikti mobs in the Rikti War Zone. I'm drawing their fire more effectively now. I just have to keep myself away from my bots so they don't get hit with any AOE's.
