Crab AoE numbers
No herostats, I use spreadsheets and in-game testing vs benchmark missions.
It depends on how you build it, but the crab has more base AoE, and the added Patron AoE is the same between the two.
The last spreadsheets I did rated the Crab at 700 and the Fort at 600, or a 15% difference, based on the builds I created. That's close enough that if you optimize both builds for AoE, it really shouldn't matter which one you pick. However, those numbers will vary from build to build, and your builds could see dramatically different results. The average fortunata does NOT build for AoE, so they don't see AoE performance. The Average Crab DOES build for AoE, so they do see good AoE performance. It's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'd suggest you create a build for each, then run a spreadsheet for those specific builds, including DPS, EPS, and DPE. Then check that against your endurance and recovery carefully so that you build to sustain the endurance costs as well as the damage production.
That's said theory and although shiny numbers are good to start with and it's how I first go about making decisions as well at the end of the day it's still a world apart from the effective damage output in practice.
It doesn't reflect how one power that scatters mobs affects subsequent uses of a cone or AoE in terms of mobs hit by it to the respective power's target cap ratio.
It doesn't reflect the effect of the fact pets never take the lead on their own initiative unless they aggro to something, etc..., etc...
I've been over the theories as well - I'm just looking for some numbers to put that in the right perspective now.
Unfortunately I don't have the crab myself.
Hence the question.

Well i havent exactly crunched the numbers. I can tell you scatter isnt that much of a problem, every time i use suppression im suprised by how many critters it hits. So its effect on true AoE output is negligible

Mr Crab does far more aoe damage than my Widow. I have no numbers but I think the main number you need to consider is -20% resist and -40% toxic resist from Venom Grenade. Looking at my builds that is pretty much the deciding factor in AOE potential (Other than the pets). Of course my characters don't compel well because I was stupid enough to take the very lackluster Psionic Tornado on my Widow...
People tell me an AoE crab is more efficient in terms of effective cumulative damage output than an AoE Fort.
I doubt this.
Now I've heard all the theoretic reasoning, but I was wondering if anyone had any solid numbers on the Crab side of things.
Has anyone ever collected any stats (e.g. HeroStats stats) on the effective DPS of an AoE crab over the course of various regular missions?
