I have the same problem. I just returned to the game after a few year hiatus and felt like a bit of nostalgia.
Downloaded the brand new MAC client today and upon entering game everything looks great except for the cursor.
It is 2 bit colored and has a flickering black box around it. Going into windowed mode at least stops the flickering black box but leaves you with the 2 bit cursor.
I'm running OS X v10.6.8 completely updated.

Has anyone found a fix for this issue yet? I have a friend who just returned to the game. He downloaded the mac client on his new(ish) i7 based iMac running Lion and has the pointer issue (black border around the pointer).
I have gotten a laggy mouse pointer with a giant black pixel box around it before after updating. Typically, restarting the launcher has fixed this. However since the update to i21 I have the issue consistently even after rebooting. Anyone else have this issue or know the fix?
