Freezes

How'd ya do!?
This issue I'm having has gotten completely lost to me, so my last will was to make an account here and post this thread to seek help and any solutions.

When I play City of Heroes it can be at any given time, but mainly when on iTrials; my screen Freezes and the only thing I'm left to do is Ctrl-Alt-Del, look at a message saying City of Heroes has stopped working... and then cancel and close program. This never used to happen to me.

My Spec's:
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
Graphics Card/ Display Adapter - ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series
-AMD Phenom (tm) 8750B Triple Core Processor 2.40GHz
-3.25GB RAM!
- Hard Drive is 290GB free -233GB

Now... I have my graphics on 1024x768, Screen refresh rate 60, quality is on Performance, the FSAA or whatever it is is as low as it goes I believe. NOW all the settings I have on is lower then what I used to run it on on my ****** computer so I strongly believe turning my graphics down isn't really acceptable to me and won't help, but I will try it lower and see if I still Freeze if it's recommended to me, but I doubt it's the issue :P

And before ya say it ... I have updated ALL drivers, I have Virus scanned and found no threats, I have done a disk cleanup, and I have done disk de-fragmentation. What I have also done in-game is commands like /sync & /unloadgfx ,
and I am still getting screen Freezes.!

The only other thing I can think to mention is I heard a rumour it could be due to the NCSoft Launcher being US or EU, I am from the UK in europe and from what I checked I think I may have the US version of the launcher, but knowing how to check for sure would help if anyone knows + knowing is this rumour has a chance of even being true, and if so how to change Launchers.

So ye guys and gals! Please help me cause it is getting a lil tiresome now having to close and reopen the whole time; And thumbs up for Freedom! hope its good!

What video driver version are you running? My windows 7 machine updated my drivers to the newest version without me knowing and I had all kinds of freezing problems untill I went back down to the 11.2 drivers.

The newest ATI drivers are not playing well with COH's.

The 11.4 drivers are generally said to be the most user-friendly for ATI cards and City of Heroes.

Anything after 11.5 (which I'm running on my machine) causes horrible lock-ups and crashing for me. And even on 11.5, I still get texture rendering problems from time to time, usually on the BAF trial--sometimes, the buildings won't render, or people's speech bubbles will fill with tiny pictures instead of letters--and I have to use the /reloadgfx command to return things to normal.

Ok so I said I had updated display adapter/ graphics drivers And it Does say I am up to date. But when I go to device manager, right clik on my graphs card go to properties and then driver, it says Driver Version: 8.850.0.0

Duneman I now ask your help on how I would manually update my driver version to 11.2, if you say you have no problems on tht version..?

Thank god ... I thought this was just me and my graphics card was going bad. I have had the same experience all weekend (9/10-9/11). The screen just freezes and I have to control+alt+delete to get out. I am able to log right back in (though it says I'm already logged on) and play for about 30 minutes if I'm in an iTrial, longer if doing less battle intensive activities. But it inevitably freezes again.

Posting this so you know it's not just you.

I am also running Windows 7, ATI Radeon HD 6800 Series, and updated all drivers, etc. just like you, but it had no impact.

Ye jus like you Battle G I'm able to log bak in after (although first time pressin enter you get "already logged in" same here).

downloaded and installed that, straight up, and then check my driver details which is now 8.881.0.0 , so it's gone up a lil bit

But I haven't attempted to play heroes with this update on a iTrial just yet because of Freedom's release coming aiiiii

I just love how quik and helpful everyone is on these posts and I know I'll get this issue solved here.. if it continues bein a issue, Thank you all!!

Update: I tried 11.4 thru the most current 11.8 -- all with similar results, multi-freezes. So I started backward, and version 11.3 did the trick. No more problems.

ahh alright then..

Have to say I tried the 11.4 catalyst and I got more crashes then Ive had before, so I went bak to 11.8 and still crash just not as much.
But after seeing this post I guess using 11.3 is worth a shot for me too!! I will dl and install 11.3 and give an update when I can, Once again! Thank you so much for the help

Currently running 11.4, but i might go back to 11.3. Regular teaming/soloing i can play for hours and my client almost never freezes, but Incarnate trials and things like mothership raids frequently cause the client to freeze. Sometimes several times an hour. i can't submit much of a bug report since i never get an error message, just a sudden freeze of the client until i kill it with the task manager.

Edit: One thing that seems to prevent freezing is periodically using /unloadgfx. Ran an Underground trial tonight and after over an hour in the trial, and playing for over two hours before that, the client didn't crash once.
