Chapter 2.
The Air up There.
City Hall- Atlas Park
The Sounds of feet kicking up dirt and gravel echo the street. Each stride filled with strength and agility. His thighs pumped with adrenaline increasing his speed with stride. Sentinel Prime made his way towards the center of Atlas Park where the statue of his childhood idol still stood tall. There were 5th Column and Ritki everywhere. Heroes of all kinds were fighting in a full blown brawl. Fire reigned down from the sky soaking Ritki soldier’s armor and leaving slightly charred burn marks on their outer armored shell. It was if it almost had no effect. Ritki forces returned fire with a volley of plasmic energy. Heroes dodging the return fire with difficulty others with ease. Some flipping backwards and others barrel rolling out of the way. A few were not as lucky as they were ejected into the air 4 or 5 feet behind them crashing into the foot of Atlas. Heroes wielding ice powers trying to hold invading forces with ice slicks and frozen blocks of ice 20 meters wide. Anything to keep the Ritki Army from getting their hands on that case. Chief Mentalists joined together to raise an already out of commission drop ship and sent it hurling into the steps of city hall to scatter as many heroes as possible. In the mix of the crowd underneath the speeding drop ship boulders hurled through the air along with large pieces of concrete which had been ripped out of the ground. People grabbing whatever they could to thwart the unrelenting forces which hammered the front. It looked like a sea of gunfire and colliding swords. Occasionally being lit up clearly by Plasma gun fire emitting from Ritki weapons. This is what atlas could see.
Atlas says to himself; where are these guys coming from. The Cores atmosphere radar didn’t pick up any of this. I don’t understand we just got an upgrade yesterday.
*His communicator signals out and a connection is made between VI and Atlas Sentinel*
“VI did you finish running that diagnostics Check?!”
“Yea A/S I finished last night. Everything should be running as normal now. Why? Is something wrong?” She replied.
“Damn right there’s something wrong; did you not get the memo? There’s Ritki and Fifth Column everywhere. Someone broke into one of the labs in the basement of city hall and has attempted to steal some very sensitive material. Can you give me an Ariel view of the area? I need to find Ms. Liberty somehow in this mess.”
“I’m sending you a new application A/S this should help you locate her. I’ve linked your communicator with hers she’s at the back end stairs behind to city hall. She’s being overwhelmed by enemy forces. Here’s her current waypoint.”
Atlas fought his way through the first wave of Ritki and made it to the steps of city hall
A/S’ communicator blinks green and fills the side lighted red LED camber to notify that the program had finished uploading. He pressed it gently as he paused from fighting after connecting a devastating right hook to an Enforcers face shattering the alien’s right cheek. The impact lifted it into the air and sent it landing in a mangled angle on the stairs crushing and breaking a small piece of concrete off one of the steps. The Alien groaned faintly it sounded like an over groan cricket.
“I’ve got her locked on. I’m headed in her direction now. Establish a communication link for me Vi.” He says.
“On it A/S. Contact me when the fight is over. Don’t want any of those mother ships hacking our frequency!” She reminded him.
His communicator blinks and fills green again. Only this time a female’s voice could be herd as his apparent system update announcement program. It only activated and spoke loudly in times of clatter and commotion. This made it easier for him to hear.
*The female’s voice is smooth and sultry*
\\”Communication Link has been initiated..”//it said.
“Ms. Liberty, its Atlas Sentinel, Sentinel Prime of the Core. Could you use a hand?” He said with haste.
As Atlas Sentinel makes his way into plain sight of Ms. Liberty he can clearly see her kicking some serious 5th Column butt. A Lieutenant makes a quick move and attempts to strike Ms. Liberty with a spinning side kick. She forcibly catches her opponents’ kicking leg and tosses him by the ankle in a furious circle and releases. Sending the soldier violently into a crowd of Ritki and 5th column. The force of the throw upon impact of various enemies knocks them down and dazes most. It concludes through a back window on the first floor of city hall where Atlas Sentinel makes his attempt to breach unnoticed.
“I’m just PEACHY!” she replies as she sends a stunned werewolf 18 meters into the air with a swift uppercut.
The impact of the punch sounds like someone had set off a small firecracker behind someone’s ear.
“You just get to the rooftop; Lady Deadshot is up there by herself you know how sometimes she bites off more than she can chew. Our communication link has been severed for 3 minutes I don’t know what’s going on up there.” Ms. Liberty Concluded.
“Right thanks for the heads up Lib. I’m going use the door you just made for me. Nice throw by the way. The Core is right behind us. They should be able to hold off the remainder of this cluster****.”
Just as Atlas Sentinel runs past Ms. Liberty, he looks back to make sure his brothers and sisters are in fact behind him. The mass mob is now filled also with heroes donning blue and white uniforms in the mix. With a grin filled with pride he proceeded to enter the newly forged back entrance. As he approached closer a pair of freakshow juicers emerged in the opening. The one on the left had a missing jaw which was replaced by an intricate array of gears and pistons. Steam shot from the juicers left shoulder as he clamped the opened wall. Concrete crumbs trickled out of its palm as it attempted to fire a bolt of electricity. The shot was successfully executed. The Juicer’s electricity bolt emitted an almost blinding white light. It traveled faster than expected and had quite a punch behind it. Nothing any normal human could withstand.
“Oh s***!” Atlas Sentinel said out loud as he used his shield to block the incoming attack.
He stopped mid run and placed his footing into the Horse stance to brace of impact. With his feet digging into the ground beneath him he slid backwards while leaning forward, about seven feet from where he attempted to stand his ground.
“YeHE-hehahahehya!” The Juicer laughed as he watched Sentinel Prime brace for impact.
The shield deflected the bolt and sent it diagonally to the upper right completely obliterating a pillar which was a part of city halls structure. Dust filled the air from the debris and temporarily blinded the three fighting.
With a change of attitude Atlas Sentinel’s expression became that of an angry bull. With one foul swoop he flung his shield as hard as he could. A singing hissing sound grabbed the air as his shield hurled traveled violently. The dust had not settled yet and the Juicer was still laughing.
“ahehahyea-UUUGHA!” The juicers laugh was quickly silenced as Atlas Sentinels shield shattered the Freakshow’s mouth and severed the upper part of its head nearly completely off. The laugh dissipated in the air like a newly broken record player.
The Juicer to the right had only a few mila-seconds to respond to what had just happened. But by that time, he had a big brown boot that was already sliding across its chin.
“Special Delivery!” A/S shouted as he ran his size 13 across the freakshows chin. It was a clean break. And both juicers were perminently out of commission.
Atlas grabbed his shield in mid-air before he landed and continued to run further inside from the back office. He took the time to open the door. Not kick it in because he knew that damage repairs we’re costly. As he cracked the Door he made sure that there were no enemies in sight.
A small static beep came in over his communicator.
“Vi…” He whispers. “I’ve made it inside through a back entrance Ms. Lib just made for me. Where’s Dorgon and Lady Deadshot location?”
The communication line is silent for a moment as he stays knelt and silent with the door cracked slightly. Three 5th Column Soldiers run by the door quickly.
“Dorgon is in the main lobby and Lady Deadshot is still fighting on the roof. You better hurry Kazimer is trying to make an escape with that suitcase! I’m patching you through to Dorgon right now.” Vi said over the comm.
Atlas waits for the soldiers to clean the corner and then he quickly proceeds the other way to the lobby where He finds Dorgon battling it out with a big group of freakshow.
“Hey Prime its Dorgon! Glad you could make it. Was getting worried id be having all the fun by myself!” He exclaimed as he shot off a concentrated sniper shot of compressed energy.
“I can’t let you have all the fun Pal.” Atlas replies.
“Let’s try and funnel these guys into a corner so you can wipe them out with your area beam.” He says to Dorgon wittingly.
“Get ready to jump out of the way when I say. The Area beam has to load on my system. Try to keep them off me.” Dorgon requests sternly.
Atlas stomps his foot into the marble beneath him pieces of the floor explode; and send multiple Column members into the air as the ground breaks into pieces under them. Fast as lightning he proceeds to follow that attack with a fierce handclap! The force of the clap resonates with the air and makes a howling sound as it launches the suspended soldiers into the corner wall and flailing their bodies in, on and through the long and elegant Super Group Registration counter. Stunned and disoriented they fall and collapse like dead puppets on the string. A few of them were even killed. Some of the freakshow revive expectantly and begin to start charging again. Before any of them could get completely focused on a target a hissing ring greeted the air as Dorgons area beam charged and emitted a pair powerful energy waves from the chambers inside the inner wrist of his battle suit sleeves.
“Get down NOW!” Dorgon yelled at Atlas.
Atlas dived and tucked his shield under himself to make the roll a much smoother and graceful tactic.
The impact is so powerful it instantly lobotomizes his targets. Atlas looks back at Dorgon and then back at the mush-brained freakshow in front of him and then looks back at Dorgon and says.
“Remind me to never piss you off D. That thing is NASTY!” Atlas enthusiastically admits.
“Ha! Not as nearly as nasty as my ex-wife!” Dorgon snickers.
“Correction, remind me to never piss off your ex-wife.” Atlas correctively states.
Haze torpedo’s through another window violently. Landing softly and swiftly near the center of the room. He tucks in at the last moment and rolls and finishes his entrance on his feet. A group of other freakshow take their attention off of Atlas and Dorgon and attempt to go after the silent ex-yakuza. As they draw in closer Haze slowly unsheathes his Katana, it sounds like a large tuning fork being struck while a silk cloth falls loosely down from atop it.
The freakshow are now five feet within striking distance. Haze maneuvers silently into a defensive stance raising his blade parallel to his shoulders and diagonally across his person slowly as he is being closed in on. His grip tightens the hilt of the blade as he prepares to strike.
The first freak lunges forward with both hands to Hazes back. With almost no effort at all Haze parries to the right and spins his blade quickly. The reversed strike that Haze unleashes severs the freaks body in half. A green tube is cut as well which spurts bio-chemical liquid to the floor like a pumping vein that has been punctured. It had been connected to the freaks lower back and shoulder. The second freak almost seconds after the first fell lunges with an enlarged mechanical hammer fist. But haze is too quick and he steps one foot back. The Slammer misses completely and cracks a small crater into the marbled floor. With one foul motion Haze takes the opportunity to deliver another killing blow to the neck. This time cutting through the bone like a hot knife and butter. Immediately following the second attacker two more came, one after the other. And haze struck them down one after the other with strong downward slashes across their chests, left to right.
“Haze! I was beginning to wonder where you were. It’s good to know you’re alive, but could you please not try and get blood everywhere. I just got this suit cleaned.” Dorgon suggests.
“I’d rather it be their blood then ours Dorgon.” Atlas interrupted.
Haze rose himself from the L stance slowly as he whipped his katana through the air as the loose blood flings off the blade and onto a nearby wall.
“Where’s Lady deadshot?” Atlas asks with a firm voice.
“She’s still on the roof. She said she was going to finish this once and for all before she broke formation. I think she aim’s to kill Kazimer. I couldn’t Stop her.”
“What! She went after that lunatic alone?!! What was she thinking!? You should have kept an eye on her!”
Atlas barrels through another group of Freakshow up the stairs using his shield like a giant plow. He knew that something was about to happen and it wasn’t going to be pleasant. Atlas charged past the last group of foe’s totally ignoring them taking a bullet to the shoulder… He didn’t break stride at all. His focus was far too great and he knew that Kazimer wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet in Lady Deadshots head just to prove a point…
((Very cool so far! I'll have to write my own bit up as well.))
PART 3
Too close for comfort
-Atlas Park, City Hall Rooftop-
A beacon attached to the heli-pad on the roof of city all flashes bright blue rapidly illuminating the sky as dusk turns into pitch black night. The sound of a hover jet hums heavily idle.
Give up now Lady Deadshot. You are surrounded! Kazimer exclaims in a brooding tone as he clenches his metal-claw like fist. There Kazimer stands as his long tailed duster flaps in the wind. His grey toned skin and mouth guard shrouds his facial expression. One which was sure to be of menacingly evil intent. There is nowhere to run and you are out of bullets.
A sharp clink echoes in the night as the hammer of her gun slams down. She lets off another round. The bullet sings through the air and Kazimer quickly deflects the bullet with his left palm in a backhand motion.
Futile! He shouts.
Im just getting started metal fists. She replies!
Shut your mouth child! Ze Great Kazimer does not take kindly to petty insults! He shouts back while tightening his grip on the metal briefcase he had stolen from the lower levels of city hall.
As she stands up slowly she covers the wound she had suffered to her right shoulder. Gritting her teeth she spits a small amount of blood. The remainder of it trickled down her chin. Lady Deadshots head is slow to rise. As she returns her gaze towards Kazimer she notices a small group of Kazimers soldiers begin to approach her. She smiles faintly as she checks her clip. Shoving the clip back into her pistol she wipes her brow.
You do realize Ive been stalling you this whole time right? She confesses confidently.
Stalling?! Dont be so overly confident! Give me one good reason why I shouldnt put a bullet in your head right now! He exclaims.
Lady Deadshots plan was unfolding just as she had anticipated. Soon the cavalry would arrive and all this would be over. The Core was always successful or so they thought.
Meanwhile in the emergency service stairs-
Atlas had made his way up the first flight of stairs. He could hear a beeping sound echoing from the next set of stairs. He was moving fast enough to skip two or three steps at a time. As he turned the railings corner his gaze was immediately caught by a slow blinking red light. He studied it quickly and came to realize that it was a bomb! Attached to it were a set of white and yellow wires which wound randomly up the railing through the next 3 flights of stairs. He knew that this couldnt end well. There was no time to stop and deal with it. Lady Deadshot was in trouble and he had to make sacrifice.
The power to the entire block where City hall sat went out. The Freakshow had purposely overcharged everything within a ten mile radius. That must have been why they were there. Couldnt have been any other explanation. The stairwell went completely black. Even the emergency backup lights had failed. The only thing with any sign of power was the blinking bombs strapped to the railing and the hypnotizing gaze of Atlas eyes.
Its Prime time! He shouted.
Almost within an instant Atlas Sentinel in mid stride barreling through the trip bombs transformed into a hulking improved version of his formal self. His suit became embraced in pure energy with enormous lightning fast speed. His entire body was replaced with a metallic like exo-suit. It was so bright that the darkened stair well and the explosions from the trip bombs seemed like they were over casted by his suits bright light. Atlas Sentinel had just used his greatest ability. As Prime of The sentinels he was able to call upon the courage and will of all his comrades and brethren during their darkest hour.
*BOOOM!* An explosion burst out of the northeast side of city hall sending debris hurling into the crowd battling outside of the building. Another explosion following and another after followed by three more.
GRRAAAAaaah! Atlas grunted as he lept off the last stair that was still intact. The force of the leap sent the concrete of the stairs shattering down into the rubble left behind by the trip bombs. There were no more stairs. Only 7 feet of open, flame engulfed space and a half splintered door. Prime tucked his shield in front of his head and shoulder using it as a bulldozer to crash through the door. From the other side in slow motion you could see the wood separating and a faint flickering of embers spitting through its cracks as he came hurling through. The sound was so loud that it completely cut of Kazimers rant.
This is your last breath Lady Deathsho-
Atlas speared forward past the shattered door and onto the platform and rolled out onto his feet sliding about 2 meters closer behind Lady Deathshot. She knew backup was coming but she surely didnt think that it was going to be Prime. She felt the pure energy that radiated off of Atlas suit and became overwhelmed with courage and fearlessness. Being alongside another Sentinel again enabled her to feel the lesser end of her painful wound.
Heres a good reason for you. Lady Deadshot replied calmly with a grin.
Priiime
Kazimer said in a drawn out brooding deep voice. I was expecting you.
Yea I didnt want to disappoint you. Give me back the case and well call it a day. Atlas replied.
Fool! Do you think after all this work Im just going to hand it over? Do you even know what this is? All the power of the universe lays in this case and you think Im just going to hand it over. You can have the contents of this case when you pry it from my cold dead hands! He shouted.
The hissing of the Hover-jet still hissing idle.
I would like you to meet some friends of mine! Kazimer announced.
With a strange formation of his hands Kazimer had summoned a small army of deformed abominations. They looked like skinless humans who had been equipped with with enormous homemade blades. Some carried large blue electric flickering stun batons. A pair of them wore gas masks which protruded hot thick air. The group of grotesque abominations made a quick advance towards Atlas and Lady Deadshot.
With a strong flick of the wrist Atlas sent his shield zipping through the air. Its trajectory headed head on into one of Kazimers disgusting creations sternum. The impact made the creature fold like a piece of paper in midair. Upon connection Primes shield retracted right back into his arm like it had been on command.
Lady Deadshot pulled a grenade from her utility belt and tossed it to her right. It bounced along the grated rooftop and landed in front of two other meat bags. Chunks of body parts pasted the ground in front of the remaining abominations as they charged forward. One of them leapt forward delivering a devastating blow to Primes chin sending him hurling back four feet and onto his back.
Before he could get up another attack was coming his way. This time it was one of Kazimers creations with a giant stun baton. The baton whizzed through the air with a snapping electric-like sound. Nano-seconds before the blunt weapon struck primes face he caught it by the head of the baton. The electricity surged around Atlas fist as his grip tightened. The abomination tried to forcefully push the baton into Primes face. They struggled for a moment before the force of conflicting energies shattered the head of the weapon into pieces. Primes facial expression turned into grit as the abominations weapon splintered. With one smooth movement of the fist Atlas delivered a fatal blow to the throat of his opponent. Upon impact the abomination was sent flailing over the rooftops edge and landed into a crowd of heroes and Freakshow still fighting below.
Atlas quickly reached into his belts side pocket and slid a pair of clips in the direction of where Lady Deadshot stood. Lady Deadshot drew her pistols once more. Sending a volley of shots after rapidly reloading from the clips that were sent her way. While she shot suppression fire Atlas was able to get back up on his feet. The two thought they had had the upper hand but when they realized just how many foes they were facing they seemed to lose a bit of confidence.
I told you your efforts are useless Sentinels. You will never be able to defeat my hordes of slaved abominations. Kazimer proclaimed while he summoned twelve more.
They grunted and growled violently as they slowly materialized from the ground.
Youve got to be ****ing kidding me
Lady Deadshot said.
This could go on until dawn at this rate. Atlas replied.
Kazimer laughed insanely as he too realized this fact. He reached into his inner coat pocket and pulled out a bottle of vodka. Uncorking it with the sharp tipped end of his index finger and proceeded to slam down the bottle. Before finishing the last of it he forcefully smashed it on the rooftop ground two feet in front of him. One of his Lieutenants from V.S.T.F calmly took the last drag of his cigarette and flicked it into the puddle of alcohol which set the area a blaze.
As the abominations slowly began to close in on Atlas and Lady Deadshot the fire began to spread. Kazimer and his lieutenants climbed aboard the hover-jet that had been standing by idly. His lieutenants first followed by Kazimer himself. As he turned around the jet slowly began to lift and hummed 12 feet from between the abominations and the pair of heroes. His trench coat flapped in the wind from the vents on the craft blowing hot air. Still holding the case in his hand while setting a foot on the lip of the craft he watched with anticipation. Was this to be the day that the Sentinels were to fall, finally?
A loud piercing noise began to fill the air. It started off faint but within seconds it made everyones ears ring.
*KISSSSROOOOOOOUUUUUUW!* an explosion erupted from inside the building causing the roof to implode. The remaining abominations fell through the newly formed hole.
How do you like them apples!? Dorgon yelled from the inside the caved in building.
He was standing protected to the side by the hero registration desk. Dust and concrete filled the air once again and wasnt quick to settle. Debris and severed limbs were all that were to be found from the remaining abominations. Freakshow and 5th column were either unconscious or dead in the lobby.
In slow motion fire and embers flowed freely across across Atlas vision as Kazimer hovered above the giant hole in the roof clenching his fist with a mad wicked grin. Atlas had never anticipated such a battle from his Arch-Nemeses. The two had been at each others throats for nearly twenty years. It had never gotten this out of hand. Atlas soon realized that he had lost this battle. The look in his eyes was almost that of fear. But he was Sentinel Prime and there was absolutely no room for that!
Dorgon flew up through the opening in the roof while dodging Kazimers lieutenants gun fire. The buildings rooftop was nearly completely on fire. The winged Sentinel swooped in and picked up Lady Deadshot by the underarms flying her to safety by Ms. Liberty. The three of them watched as Atlas and Kazimer faced off once again.
You wont get away with this. This is madness! Atlas screamed across the roof.
But I already have Prime! This is just a taste of the things to come. The devouring earth shall seat me at the top of its food chain. I will bring this world to its knees! He spoke.
Do you honestly think that they will keep their end of the bargain?! They DON'T make alliances! Atlas yelled as he dug his feet into the ground heavily.
With blazing speed Atlas sprinted forward calculating every step. He set his sight on a piece of toppled over concrete which was at the foot of the hole in the roof. With one strong leap he launched himself into the direction of Kazimer and his hover-jet. Time slowed down as the others down below watched their leader sail through the air drawing back his shield as if he was going to use it as a hammer to break the hull of the craft floating not nearly 8 feet in front of him.
Its that
is that a bazooka?! Haze said loudly. Haze never spoke. To hear him say something at a time like this was probably necessary.
Kazimers right hand certified bad *** lifted a bazooka and set it right in the direction of atlas that was in mid-leap. He fired quickly. Atlas realized what was coming at his face and his eyes grew wide! He quickly raised his shield and tucked his legs. The impact sent Atlas right back down the way he came but this time he was thrown from the explosion right through the back wall of city hall. Debris and dust followed as he tumbled across the lawn. He slammed his shield down and sunk into the ground in front of him to break the force which had carried him thus far. The divot from the shield was about 3 meters wide.
The other Sentinels gazed upon Kazimer as he and his Lieutenants began to open a portal. It was approximately 40 meters wide and was fully opened within seconds.
Atlas laid there with one elbow down and the other over his stomach as he attempted to lift himself up. The impact had stunned him severely. As he got to his feet he nearly fell back down. Ms. Liberty and Lady Deadshot caught him by his arms and put them up and around their shoulders. His Prime energy had taken a beating from the mass explosions in the stair well to the last attack he sustained from the rocket launcher. His suit was still intact but it clearly sustained rips and gashes and needed repairs. Blood trickled down his face and nose. He was hurt but more pissed off than anything else.
The Sentinels had just tasted their first dish of defeat.
Kazimer and his company of criminal materminds had vanished through the portal with the briefcase and its contents. Now things just become extremely crucial. God knows what was in that case. It could very well mean the end of life on primal earth as all knew it.
Vi..You there? Atlas said with a disappointed tone as he looked around at the dust and debris still lingering in the air.
Yea Im here
Ive been watching in awe from command. I thought we had them. Dont beat yourselves up guys. We did everything we could. She said in a calm voice.
There just werent enough of us. Where the hell did he round up all of those lapdogs? Dorgon said.
Something just wasnt right about this whole thing. There has got to be an explanation. Where the hell was our reinforcements? Ms. Liberty said as the group shuffled through debris and dead bodies; Ritki, fallen heroes along with 5th column and Freakshow lay scattered everywhere.
There were so many that no one even bothered to fight anymore. Whomever survived just simply gathered their wounded and retreated to their respectful turf. It was a sad moment for Atlas Park and the Sentinels. The loss of life and destruction was enough to bring any ones spirits down.
Thanks for coming to get me up there Atlas. I didnt want to admit but I was really glad to see you.
Atlas looked to Lady Deadshot and trys to say something but instead he twitches his head away from her towards the ground and coughs up a large pool of blood and spits it out. Wiping his mouth he replies now with a firm tone.
Dont mention it. I knew you could handle yourself but I just couldnt let you face that psychopath alone. We tried our best. Our numbers just simply werent enough. We need to find more Sentinels. I want everyone to begin the recruitment process after we rebuild city hall. This is our mess and we have to clean it up. Atlas insists to the group.
The Sentinels and Ms. Liberty make their way to base portal.
Ms. Liberty bids them farewell. As she looks upon them she can see that not a single one of them was willing to show how beat up and battered they were. But it was clearly visible. Even though the Sentinels had lost this battle they had not lost the war.
She had witnessed a new breed of hero. One that was young and reckless but filled with great potential. She was certain that this was not the last time she would fight alongside with The Core. The First Sentinels would still stand tall.

The First Sentinel
It was during the first invasion of the fifth column. A rogue entity of the third Reich. Its leaders hell bent on supernatural ideals and devastating scientific technology. The threat was eminent and the hope was dim. But all was not lost. There was still a way; The Sentinel way. Forged from courage, will, strength and compassion a new hope befell upon Paragon City.
Lab assistant: "Doctor Issac, are you ready to begin?"
"Yes, as soon as the Ariyansi radiation levels are at 100% we can begin", he says as he turns to his left and looks at the subject in the radiation pod. "Are you ready Mr. Gilreath? This isn't going to be easy." Doctor Issac pats him on the shoulder and try's to give the subject as much comfort as he can knowing that he's about to be in a lot of pain. -Doctor Isaac says to himself: "I don't know if this subject is going to be able to survive the procedure, all the others before him have died or wound up as a vegetable in Atlas Park Hospital. He has Courage and he has the strength, but does he have the will. It is the one thing that all the other subjects have lacked. One more death and this project is going to get canned by the Vanguard.
"Doc...I've never been ready more for anything else in my life! -The young man sighs heavily- Just make sure Im not drooling on a bib like the rest of the boys downstairs." - Gilreath was a solider and never questioned his orders. But even though he was loyal he was still questioning the moral and ethical practices of the good doctor and his partners.- "This isn't going to hurt...much." The Doctor says with a slight grin. "Good...that awkward couple seconds of silence was beginning to worry me. -Gilreath chuckles a bit as his smile quickly fades into a serious expression of courage while slowly lying back into the radiation pod. The doctors assistant straps the solider in and connects the EKG receptors to his chest, ribs, legs and arms. She then proceeds to assist the doctor with a small case containing a red and purple liquid. Not meshed together but based upon imbalances separated in their own saturation. The doctor begins to sweat, concentrating diligently on connecting the vials in the correct sequence for intravenous transfusion.-
"And here/we/go..." -The machines attached to the pod begin to hum as the doctor throws the switch. Lights upon the ceiling begin to fade in and out as the pod seals with a compressional like snap. As the pod clasps the soldiers eyes jolt as if his body had been instantly paralyzed. A pink like fog begins to fill the chamber and the last drop of sweat the man will ever feel makes it way gracefully down his cheek from his brow. An array of lights begins to illuminate the statistics bar on the side panel computer screen. The doctor and his assistant study the subjects levels with extreme concentration.-
"Radiation levels currently at 60 percent." The assistant says. "Good, continue radiation acceleration at the current rhythm." Doctor Isaac instructs. "Radiations now reaching 78 percent. 85/86..."- As the levels rise you can hear scratching on the pods inner shell. Soft screams echo from the inside. The pain was clearly present. - "Radiation levels have reached 91 percent. Heart rate increased to 125/97. Doctor I don't think he's going to make it." - The screams become louder and it was now clear that Gilreath was in the fight of his life.- "Nine more percent to go! We're almost there. Keep going!" "Yes doctor as you wish." His assistant replies. "95 percent.../96/97/98 percent Doctor Isaac, this is incredible! -The screams now turn into a howling call for mercy- "Please! Turn it off. Arrrggghhaaaa!" -The soldiers cry fades in the Radiation pod as the radiation levels hit 100 percent. Doctor Isaac hits a bright orange button that initiates the Intravenous stage of the genetic process. The tubes jump as they quickly fill and its contents begin to make its way to the pod. Within seconds the meshy clouds turn into a bright light blue beam; illuminating the entire chamber from the pod window. Sparks fly from the side panel and smoke begins to emit from its creases. The lights are almost dead and only the emergency backup light are still lit. The pods clasps release and the top slowly releases with a piston like sound. As the sound fades the pod is raised into an up-right position and rests idly.
The doors open and the Doctor Issac and his assistant stand back and wait. The light blue glow is eclipsed by a towering figure as it steps out of the pod. The soldier stretches slowly and rolls his right shoulder as if it's stiff. - "Wow! What a rush Doc. Lets not do that again..." -Gilreath stands a shockingly 6 foot 6 at 275 pounds; Raw muscle. His muscular structure had been increased by 78 percent and its definition; perfect.- "You look taller solider." Doctor Issac exclaims. "Uh, thanks I think." Gilreath says with a slight hesitation. "You will run faster, leap higher and your strength will be that of 10 men. Your metabolism and endurance will be able to sustain and perform at the peak of human capacity but your greatest weapon will be your Courage." The doctor says as he points and slowly taps once on Gilreath's chest.
"Never forget who you are and what it is that you have been selected to do. You are the Vanguards last hope against the 5th Column. You are the worlds last hope. There will come a time when they will take your abilities for granted and you will need to call upon others with extraordinary gifts. You are one of the first Sentinels but not the last." Doctor Issac says. "You mean to say there are others like me?" Gilreath reply's with confusion. "Not like you, but with similar qualities that you possess like your will and courage. They will need your help as will you need theirs. We are out of time, they are coming. You must go down the hall and to the corridor on the left. There's a large green crate with your genetic print scanner attached to it. Only you can open it. Keep it safe and open it when the time is right. Its set to open when you will need it most. Now go! My assistant will accompany you. She knows what to do for you. She will be at your side at all times weather you like it or not." The doctor says as he leads him through the back. -Pounding and gun shots begin to set off down the hall in the opposite direction.
Gilreath looks back frequently and franticly as the doctor pushes him gently towards the other direction with his assistant following.- "I will hold them off. You two get to the garage and make your escape through the sentinel tele-pad. It's set for a one way trip. God's Speed and good luck!" The Doctor says with speedy enthusiasm. - The Solider and the doctors assistant step onto the tele-pad and particles begin to swash around until they form into a small purple concentrated ball of light. It begins to sing with energy and suddenly bursts while releasing an intense amount of energy. The two vanish into thin air and the pad along with its platform is consumed along with it. The last thing that the two saw was the lab door being kicked in by the Fifth Column and the good doctor taking a killing back-hand blow to the chest and face by a savage werewolf which stood toweringly over the doctors build.-
"Noooooooo!" -The solider and assistant scream as they materialize back into existence from the Teleportation that they just experienced. Gilreath's and the young female assistants' hands we're extended as if they were reaching out in hope of saving the Doctor from impending death. But it was useless because of the instant change of location. The doctor was dead and there was nothing the two could do. Except move on. Gilreath sat on the large green crate behind them and wiped his brow with a devastated look upon his face. The assistant slowly walked over and laid her hand on his shoulder.- "There was nothing you could do Robb. It's not your fault. The Doctor knew what he was doing. Look at me!" -The female assistant takes her hand and gently but firmly raises Gilreath's chin and brings his eyes level with hers.- "Promise me you won't blame yourself for any of this. It was how he planned it. One Sentinel, one assistant, there will always be two. No more, no less.
We have a duty to the world to keep and a promise to the doctor." -Gilreath looks up with a small smile and nods at his new assistant.- "We won't let him down, or the Vanguard. The people of earth will know the name Sentinel and so will the 5th Column...forcibly! But I seriously think we're going to need some help. I can't take on an entire army alone. The doc said there were others out here like me. We should start looking for them as soon as possible." "Not before you rest Robb. Hmm your name. You need a better name." "What?...I like my name. Do you have a name? I haven't caught it yet, not even during my prescreening at the vanguard laboratory... -The assistant snerks- "My name is Ferguson, Molly Ferguson. But you can call me Molly." -Gilreath wasn't too fond of using womens first names unless he was with feeling or in a serious relationship, so he hesitated and stuck to his manors.- "I'll just refer to you as Ms. Ferguson for now. Excuse me if I do." He says. "Oh not at all, but you still need a better name then Robert Gilreath. People will know who you are and your family...it's just wise to use an alias you know?" She insists. "I suppose your right Ms. Ferguson. It might make better sense to cover my ***. Make a note to erase my um...Military records and civilian information, if you can get ahold of it. Wait where are we?" He asks quickly. "We are under Atlas Park in a small compound that the doctor built years ago during World War II.
We're safe here and the security infastructure is linked to only our bio-rhythmic readings." She pauses for a moment while pondering. "Oh! I know what we'll call you!.. Atlas! Atlas Sentinel!" Molly Grins happily. "Hrmm. You know. I like the ring of that. It sounds catchy enough. Hope the people can dig it." He sighs with a slight, soft chuckle. "Alright Molly Atlas Sentinel it is. But in the meantime, lets get some sleep." "No Atlas I need to finish up with the security diagnostics for wiping your records as well as start a search for others like yourself. You go ahead and get some rest."
