For those that don't know:
To turn FPS on (it will display on/near your health bar or upper right corner) use:
/showfps 1
To turn FPS off use:
/showfps 0

You can also bind a key to show fps (and the netgraph) through the Keymapping tab in Options via the Menu. I use / and * on the Numpad.
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
Well, it turns out on the next page of search results was my answer, I posted too soon! I was using /showfps wrong. Sorry! I feel stupid now.
Original post:
When I use /showfps in-game I get 0.000000 as my result (there may or may not be more 0s, I didn't count).
Am I doing something wrong? Or are there any other ways to get a semi-accurate framerate?
If you recommend an application, please recommend one that is not a time-limited trial and/or does not require registration. (BTW, in case it matters for the application you have in mind, I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and I have an AMD Radeon HD 5750.)
