Respeing my old NRG/DEv
How important do you think Hasten might be to the build?
if I drop the speed pool, drop hover and take leaping instead, I get even higher defense if I toggle Combat Jump and I get one layer of mezz protection with Acrobatics for mezzes that happen to get through the defense.
Of course that's 2 toggles (more End use), no hasten and no easy way to direct knockbak anymore, so maybe it's not a better build, just different.
I don't care a lot about the KB resistance in Acrobatics because Hover would mitigate KB by doing a quick flip, and i can have a couple Karma/Steadfast -KB in storage.
what is the defense cap fora blaster? Mids shows that Conbat Jump + Cloaking Device + Weave + bonuses at 39.1% as slotted (slotted one End on +def in CJ)
isn't that over the cap?
since I'm not longer invisible due to superspeed, I can at least take Hasten at 50 (or Hover, but I think Hasten is best between the two)
I forgot Hover has a defense component. if I slot it with a lvl50 Def IO I get to 39% Ranged defense (instead of 39.1% with the Leaping pool)
So the only reason to go leaping would be for the Mezz protection, but I think the downside are too severe, especially no Hasten.
Lol, I'm good about answering my own thread
one more thought:
Temp invulnerability maybe is not so useful since I'm going for defense?
My current build has the medicine pool and I like it, really makes soloing more comfortable (especially once you have your bubble, you can take a quick timeout to heal).
I still want FoN, it's too good to pass up, so I was thinking:
Get rid of Explosive Blast, I've never taken it because it looks anemic based on the numbers, I also have no important bonus slotted in it.
Take Aid other instead (can I heal my turret?)
Get rid of Taser and take Aid self instead, 6-slot it, 5 heals (probably Doctored wounds or maybe straight IOs, I can't afford a full set of numinas) plus one interrupt reduction.
at 44 take repulsion bomb and slot it with eh low level Stupefy I originally had slotted in Taser. This gives me my second prerequisite for FoN, so I can take it at 47
can't take Recall Friend at 50 anymore, can't get more than 4 pools, so 1-slot resuscitate.
Slot FoN with 3 reactive armor and a rechg to regain the small Ranged Def bonus from reactive armor that was lost from Temp Invulnerability.
One less toggle, self-heal, and no change to Def(Ranged). Probably worth losing the Smash/Lethal resistance from Temp Invulnerability.
So this is the build I talked myself into over the last few hours, let me know what you think (I didn't reprint the bonuses, they're essentially the same as in the original post)

see if i can answer some questions first before the boss gets here.
-I don't think the mines have changed.
-you can kinda use CJ like hover, as far as attacking from above.
-Cloak + SS = invis.
-the tohit debuff in SG is tiny. there's other good reason's to take SG but its def skippable.
-if you have tons of attacks hasten is definitly skippable.
-you mentioned "two more toggles if you take the leaping pool", CJ is basically zero end usage
-the soft cap for any AT is 45%
-don't forget that defense from stealth powers is halved once you attack.
-I wouldn't slot CJ or hover for defense (beyond the LotG:7.5%) it only gives like 1%ish more defense when slotted?
-I wouldn't skip Temp Invul just because yer going for defense...but really, PvE is easy so nothing is required.
-Explosive Blast is puny, but its a AoE..i could go wither way with that one. It might be a good place for the FF:chance for recharge?
-Repulsion bomb is a nice power. I use it as a attack even tho it's also low damage. It's got nice mitagation with the KB and stun (dont for get the stun!). It does have a long animation tho..I use it as a opener.
-I wouldn't take any rez power, especially since there's a craftable (10 uses) temp power at WW's. There's also a day job and the good ole Awaken
perma jump is ---> /up 1
Thanks for the answers
>I wouldn't skip Temp Invul just because yer going for defense...but really, PvE is easy so nothing is required
I can't figure out a way to take medicine (that I like) without dropping it or losing the bonuses
>I wouldn't take any rez power
I just wasn't sure what I'd take at 50 with a single slot. still not sure
-I'm pretty sure you won't get the set bonuses (while exempting) from powers that your not able to have at the elvl.
In other words.. just because you have lvl20 Stupify's in Repulsion Bomb doesn't mean you'll be able to get the stupify bonuses at 15.
In order to get the global bonuses from that lvl 44 power you'd have to be exempt to 39 or higher. So you might as well slot lvl 44 IO's in Stupify.
I think im correct about this lol.
I'm not even sure you meant them to be lvl 20.
fyi purple recipe global bonuses work at any exemp lvl.
perma jump is ---> /up 1
Since you're not really taking any of the Devices powers, I would build it as a hover-blaster instead.
Ranged defense is a nice thing to have. It's even nicer when they HAVE to attack you from range because you can fly and they can't.

Yes, I absolutely meant for the IOs in the "useless" powers to be low lvl like 20.
-I'm pretty sure you won't get the set bonuses (while exempting) from powers that your not able to have at the elvl.

specifically I relied in the following text:
Set Bonuses are always on, even if the power in which the Set is slotted isn't activated, and even if that power is greyed out due to exemplaring! However, you do start to lose the bonuses if you exemplar more than three levels under the level of the IOs in the Set.
just like Set Bonuses, the power in which [globals] are slotted can be greyed out due to exemplaring and the Global will still work. However, just like Set Bonuses, the Global stops working when the character is exemplared more than three levels under the level of the Global IO.
So I get full bonuses down to lvl17. In fact I really meant lvl23 rather than lvl20, the idea being that I'd like to get the bonus even when I'm on a lvl20 TF. I'm not religious about it and would be OK with a lvl26 for example, especially if I can get it cheap, but I meant them not to be lvl40+
for the sake of completeness, the wiki also lists the rules for procs, which I don't use in this build except to complete a set:
All the other Special IOs are called 'Procs.' Unlike the Globals, Procs depend on the power they are slotted in to be activated in order to work. If the power isn't activated, then no benefit from the Proc. Consequently, exemplaring lower than the level of the power means the power is greyed out and can't be used (even passive powers follow that rule), which means the Proc won't work. However, the upside of Procs is that if the power is active, the Proc always work, even if you exemplar way below the level of the Proc. Procs don't follow the -3 level rule that Globals and Set Bonuses do.
You'd have to give up hasten and SS for maneuvers with this build, but it caps ranged def. You should still be sneaky enough with cloaking device and a stealth io.

thx, I'll take a good look tonight. Off-hand I like what you did.
I started with full sets of Thunderstrikes in my original attempt but ended up breaking the rule-of-5. can't remember how now that I see this build though.
the T-strike bonuses don't kick in until the late game since they're in lvl50 IOs, but it's not like they were there in my original build.
I noticed you removed the interrupts from Aid Self, that makes it much harder to sue in combat, at least until you get PFF. With 2 IntRed you can usually sneak a heal between most DoT ticks.
I'm not in a financial position to afford multiple +Rchg LoTGs, I just came back to the game and my 15 millions from back then look like pocket change now. The uniques from my build are some I have from back then (probably payed less than 3 mill for the def/res Steadfast) but I think the build is not gimped without them and without Hasten, although I like FoN a lot and it won;t be up as often without Hasten.
I have a couple +Stealth IOs in storage so as long as they work with Cloak, I can go Fly rather than Speed, I also hadn't noticed Blessing of the Zephyr has +RangeDef also (probably expensive, especially the -KB proc, but I can work my way into it, and KB is somewhat mitigated by Hover).
Thanks this is very helpful.
I am taking Hover at lvl22 in my "current final" build. did you mean to say I need to make some adjustments to the build to make it more of a Hover Blaster? (such as additional slotting in Hover?)
|
I like to add an additional Flight enhancement to it for greater mobility, but that's optional.
I have a Sonic/Devices that, except for when I log him in or he gets hit with -fly, hasn't set foot on the ground since 2008.

I unlocked my alpha slot and was wondering what kind of ability might best fit this build. do blasters go for +dmg? go for +rchg if I don't take hasten so Nova / FoN are up more (since I don't have a bunch of LotG +rchg
I'm wondering about Explosive Blast again. I rarely use the gun drone in teams, especially if I'm hovering since you can only spawn it close to the ground. I have how long it takes to get out, it's too interruptible to do in combat...
I do use it faithfully when soloing (which I prefer not to do but don't always play at times that make it easy to find teams)
The last time I used EB was pre-IOs and I wasn't impressed, but with a set of 5 Positron's blast (leave Dam/Range out) I get its damage to match Energy Torrent before even taking the proc into account, and get +6.5% a global recharge.
With regard to the alpha slot, I'm now thinking Musculature, after all Damage is what Blasters are all about. I figured I have enough opportunities to slot LoTGs and have some +Rchg bonus sets, so maybe I don't need the extra recharge in the alpha slot, even if I don't have Hasten.
I think I'll respec and play a while first, to get a feel of how my endurance is doing, maybe with that much recharge and the few toggles I'll need the extra end and have to go Cardiac instead. the extra range there wouldn't hurt either
I did a quick rework of your build. As I always say it could be better but that would take time of working and reworking. Overall your slotting IOs but missing out on some good set bonuses. Sometimes it worth loosing a second recharge in a power if your going to gain a 10% regen bonus. I think putting them side by side you can see what I am talking about.
I'm not a big fan of your Ancillary choice and some ways its counter productive. You have PFF but then have Force of nature that drains your endurance. So do you use Force of Nature and hope you then have enough End to activate PFF if Force of Nature doesn't work out ? Again I'm not into anything that drops my toggles, especially since its just giving you a great endurance recharge. Your still relying on your powers to attack and recharge fast enough to kill the enemy.
Regardless though There are about 4 threads currently on this very page below this thread that deal with Devices. I would definitely look through them to see some of the common themes different players work out. That shows that different players are liking the same ideas and powers.
You will notice your range defense is 48 but it will drop down to 45 when cloaking device is suppressed.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I'm trying to relearn the process of coming up with a build, so this kind of feedack is useful.
I like the idea of Gaussian in Targetting Drone, and is a set I missed (I must not have used Mid's right to find Def(Ranged) sets, I missed several of them). It does have very nice bonuses.
I see you took out the IntRed out of Aid Self too. Since I'm only rerturning to the game after a few years maybe my recollection is foggy, but I think I remember I used to hate Aid Self because it was so interruptible, and started loving it once I could use it in combat without worrying about using PFF (which you don;t get when exemplared).
Maybe a single IO is sufficient though, with the current 2 lvol 50 SO build I am still running, I can usually heal in between DoT ticks. I'll probably have to try it on test/beta
I use PFF a couple of ways, one is to turtle if I get too much aggro, I cna then regroup, heal, etc... in relative safety (especiallly useful when soloing)
I also use it after the FoN crash: pop a blue, toggle PFF, assess the situation, retoggle either immediately or wait for recovery to kick back in...
I'm not married to it but I certainly never thought FoN and PFF were at odds with each other.
Being a returning player, I have less than 30 mills to my name (but have most of the enh in my build) and probably can't slot multiple LoTR until much later, the one in my build is because I already have it (and hte steadfeat and the numina). a lot of the extra regen in your build comes from the 2 pieces of LotG
without the LoTG the difference in Nova rechg is almost 30s, but you do get a little more defense out of it. I don't use Nova all the time, but in the right missions or the right team I use it as soon as it's up, so it's a tossup.
I'll keep playing with it
If you get Smoke Grenade plus something to stack stealth on Cloaking Devices (Super Speed or a Stealth IO in Sprint) then you can stealth whole missions that involve getting an item. Get to the item, smoke any nearby mobs (SG has -Perception) and get the glowie.
Yes, I absolutely meant for the IOs in the "useless" powers to be low lvl like 20.
I got my info from the paragon wiki: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Exempl...n_Enhancements is it outdated? specifically I relied in the following text: Set Bonuses are always on, even if the power in which the Set is slotted isn't activated, and even if that power is greyed out due to exemplaring! I'm not religious about it and would be OK with a lvl26 for example, especially if I can get it cheap, but I meant them not to be lvl40+ for the sake of completeness, the wiki also lists the rules for procs, which I don't use in this build except to complete a set: All the other Special IOs are called 'Procs.' Unlike the Globals, Procs depend on the power they are slotted in to be activated in order to work. Procs don't follow the -3 level rule that Globals and Set Bonuses do. |
ever since they made it so that you can use powers five levels above your exemp lvl. I was incorrectly thinking that the 3 level rule changed to 5
perma jump is ---> /up 1
Hi all, I just came back to the game a after a few years away and I was thinking about respecing my lvl50 NRG/Dev blaster before I lose my current freespec when i21 hits. It was my first character in the game and has sentimental value.
The last respec was before IOs were introduced, in fact it was before they made the turret into a drone (mobile), it used to be fixed wherever you got it out. (the lat build I have for her on my computer was saved using the old Sherksilver planner that most people used before Mid's)
Having just come back to the game, I'm a bit rusty with builds so I'd like your opinion on the following build. It's not supercrazy expensive, in fact I have all the uniques except the numina.
I used to have very few devices, targeting drones, caltrops and gun turret. I hated the mines, and unless something has changed to how they play, I don't intend to take them again.
With this build I tried to hit high Ranged defense through Weave+cloak+bonuses (36%) and get +rchg speed (+30%) in the process. The extra +7% damage is always nice.
I hope the +speed doesn't kill me on endurance (only +17%)
I pick up this crazy accuracy bonus (+64%) that I don't especially care about since I have +toHit with the drone, but that allows me not to worry about Acc in the powers. For example I slotted the snipe for the +def bonus and it has terrible accuracy, but between the set bonuses, the drone and the fact I usually hit Aim before it, it still shouldn't miss much.
The nice thing here is a lot of the +def(Ranged) bonuses come from the not so great powers like web grenade, taser or caltrop, so I can use low lvl enh so I keep the bonus for exemplaring without gimping myself. I went with Frankenslotting (mostly) on my attacks so I get bang for the buck with high level enh without worrying about losing the bonuses when I exemplar.
Hover at 26 is to allow me to turn the NRG knockback into knockdown, I might even move it to lvl22 and slide Tough/Weave down a slot.
I'm not sure if stealth from Cloaking device stacks with superspeed for complete invisibility. If not, I may add a +Stealth in Run or Superspeed, since I like the invisibility is why I chose to take Recall Friend at 50 (wish I could take it earlier for exemplaring in TFs like Citadel, but the Assemble the Team temp power should alleviate that.
I've never used smoke grenade and left it out of this build, was it a mistake not to have toHit debuff?
Since I just came back to the game, I have to learn about alpha slots and all that newfangled stuff, so I didn't take it into account in this build. Let me know if that's a mistake and I'd have to start over once I fill in the alpha slot.
