Why is Miss Thystle Superstrength/Invuln?
Quote:
Captain America is peak human strength. He can lift the maximum limit for his size that a human can do and still be considered 'normal'. He's like an Olympic Class weight lifter.
Spider-Man is super humanly strong. He can tear a steel door off its hinges. He can throw a small car, with effort. But that doesn't qualify as even "low tier" super strength in the Marvel universe. Luke Cage, he's low tier. New Avengers establishes he's stronger than Spidey. Iron Man's basic armor is probably around this level. Ben Grimm, Colossus, they're stronger. They're around mid level. Thor and Hulk are around the top level, typically. Beyond them, you get guys in the cosmic class of power where it's really not about muscle strength anymore. Guys like Gladiator, Thanos and such. Where does our game lay? In my opinion, the damage indicates around Spider-Man's level of strength for Tankers, and getting close to mid level for Brutes. Some of SS's attacks TRY for a mid-high tier feel like Foot Stomp and Hand Clap, but the damage just isn't there to support it. Look at how much effort it takes just to destroy a car. Or when you can't even knock over a Malta boss, who's just a normal guy in a blue cowboy hat. Or how much damage you deal compared to a teammate brandishing a wooden baseball bat. And when's the last time you knocked someone through a wall? Or picked up a truck? . |
Spider-man - 10 tons
Luke Cage - Started at 2 tons, now approx. 50 tons
The Thing - 85 to 95 tons
Colossus - 95 to 100 tons
Thor - 100+
Hulk - 100+
There's always the boosts from extreme efforts that may skew the numbers from time to time. Spider-man once lifted a 50 ton freight engine because he was pissed off.

I should have stated as such.
Spider-Man has super strength without invulnerability. He's more durable than an average human, which is why he can punch hard stuff without taking too much damage (although he's been shown to break his hands after repeatedly pummeling a brick wall), but he's not invulnerable.

Durability: I can take a lot of damage and keep going compared to heroes without it. (Wonder Woman, Spider-Man)
It is still possible to injure them though......people with swords have cut Wonder Woman, and skilled enough martial artists can hurt Spider-Man, though he doesn't make it easy with superior agility and Spider-Sense. (Knowing where to hit instead of how hard)
Invulnerability: With few exceptions, no form of attack can hurt or damage me. (Superman, Juggernaut)
No need to explain that one.

Reminds me of the game mechanics for "Tales from the Floating Vagabond", where the longest weapon range was 'See that dot?'...

My favorite RPG table remains the Anguish Factor Equivalency chart in HOL: Human Occupied Landfill, which attempted to provide examples of how much certain amounts of damage would hurt, e.g., "17: Clipping Live Jumper Cables To Your Tongue".
All super strength comes with some level of invulnerability.
