Like the title said, i just bought the game! and i am looking forward to some fun with CoH. I like to pvp. But I dont know where to start with this game. I have very minimal experience with Super Hero games. I played Champions online for about a 3 days. and i use to play DCUO for about 2 months. I am not sure how archetype works, not sure what powersets are there. Could you guys give me some advice to which powerset is easy to use and does pretty good in pvp. please and thx.

First of all... Welcome to the City Of Fun!!! with Heroes and Villians

As far as "Where to Begin..." Roll a Character... play it to 20 and Roll another one. Find what fits for you and enjoy the fun. Others will go into much more details, but if you're looking for fun you came to the right MMO

Second with the welcome.

Try everything. There are a ton (or so) of possibilities for characters.

My best advice for new players....

1. Try everything. Fill up a server or two with power combos until you find what works for you.

2. Read everything. Take the time and read mission texts and what contacts have to say. There is a lot of information built into the game.

3. Ask for help. We're a pretty friendly bunch. If you dont understand something just ask. Chances are there's someone nearby who has an answer for you. There is a specific chat channel called "help'

4. Don't worry about 'the perfect build' or anything like that. This game is much less dependant on things like that. It is almost impossible to build a 'useless' character.

5. Don't let anyone tell you you're 'doing it wrong'. This game has room for every playstyle.

6. Have fun. It's a game.

7. Feel free to ignore all of these until you get comfortable
AE building
Taskforces/ Strike forces
Trials
Invention System
The Market
Oroborous
Rikti War Zone

None of those are essential to the core game. Come back to them when you feel ready.

Welcome to the City.

Welcome.

As others mentioned, a couple key things to do early are explore AT's and Powersets.

Each AT is very distinct, and even within an AT, power choices can make two
of the same ATs feel and play differently. For instance, Fire Blasters play very
differently than Electric Blasters even though they're the same AT (Blaster).

Additionally, bear in mind that first and foremost, this is a PvE game. PvP wasn't
even IN the game until I-3/I-4 timeframe. You can't even enter PvP zones until
L15 (although I believe you can do arena PvP at any level iirc).

Finally, a couple important things to understand about PvP specifically:

* Only a very small minority of players even bother with it at all, so if, after
getting some game experience in, you decide you want to PvP, you'll probably
want to build those characters on Freedom server (most other servers have
little, if any, active PvP).

* Characters behave (powers-wise) very differently in PvP than they do in PvE.
Until you get a good sense for PvE, explaining those PvP effects will sound like
unintelligble gibberish. Many powers that are great in PvE are awful in PvP, and
some powers you'd never use in PvE are helpful to PvP - it's a completely new
learning curve.

So, to echo the others, start with PvE first, and find toons and powers you enjoy
playing with first.

You say you like pvp, with that in mind you will probably want to put your pvp toon on Freedom. Other servers do have some pvp, but Freedom was declared the unofficial pvp server years ago and certainly has the most active pvp zones and arena. I suggest finding a super group/guild that also enjoys pvping. Forums and websites are wonderful but talking to current players will help you move in the right direction and help avoid trolls/bogus info/ and certainly expired information. Find what you like to play, If you want to jump into pvp your going to be at quite a disadvantage. Read the builds sections and go with something viable. People will tell you play what you like but there is nothing worse than dumping game money and effort into something that looks great on paper but never transitions to what you thought it would. There are alot of great combos and alot of awful ones, play whatever in pve, but in pvp play something that has a chance. Last join channel Freedom pvp 2011. There are alot of pvpers a who chat in there and its a great place to ask questions and get involved. Welcome aboard and best of luck to you.
