Outdoor maps don't have front, back, or middle. The whole map is considered one single "area".
I've noticed a similar quirk with AVs conning as EBs in my mishes. Recenty, I made AE versions of some of the Shadowstar story arcs. Nosferatu, Requiem, and Arakhn all conned as EBs even though I had specifically selected their AV versions. Not sure how or why that is happening.
Have you tried playing non-AE missions to see whether or not AVs revert to EBs despite your challenge settings?

Emperor, yep! I even checked on my friend's lap and my rating is still at AV. I'm stymied!
In any AE mish I make, the AVs almost always con into EB even though I'm at +3, x5 and set at AV rating. Hell, some of the mobs' bosses are tougher.
Before registering the villains, I go back and check the rank and but they come out weaker. Am I missing something?
Also on outdoor maps (such as the Warburg Malta Base) where exactly is "front, middle and back?" Does it even apply to such places? It'd be great to have regular patrols outside then once they go inside, all 10 bosses are spread out.
