Steam

OK, seriously, how do I get my Steam install to use the NCSoft Launcher? Because at this point I've deleted the game out of Steam, emptied the directory and deleted the registry keys and, after a 2.5Gb download & reinstall, am *still* stuck with it using the now-useless Updater.

It's not funny any more.

Apparently getting the same problem. I thought the faq on the new launcher said we wouldn't have to worry, that they'd update steam when the time came?
Now launching CoH does nothing except bring up the updater and keep trying to connect with a big "page cannot be found" message in the window.

When I did a clean install on my laptop, having never had CoHLive on there before (But having the Launcher installed for CoHTest), Steam set itself up to use the Launcher for CoHLive, but no matter what I do with reinstalls I can't get it to do so on my Desktop.

I also seem to be having the same problem, i don't know bout you guys buy i use a mac. All it keeps saying when i open it up is "loading" and it wont let me continue. I thought it might be a bug and i would have to wait a day for steam to update, but its not funny any more. Im not addicted to the game but I just want to have it working unless i want to play. Not sitting at the computer brainstorming possible reasons why it wont work. I haven't download the ncsoft launcher because i don't want to affect steam.Hopefully they will fix this and hopefully it will work.

Installing the Launcher shouldn't impact Steam (At least it hasn't on my PC) but it does mean that you'll have to add it as a non-Steam game if you want the Steam overlay, etc. to keep working.

So now i updated my comp and its saying the the url is not being found?! They need to fix this now because i don't know if the whole thing will just drop. Its happened before and hopefully not again. You think it would be easy for them to just swich the servers but noo, they have to make it complicated.

Has anyone been able to get it working from a steam install since the launcher switch? The new installer download from the game client page won't even run for me, just crashes instantly.

ive had the game working from steam when they fixed it to use the new launcher, the only problem i run into is the steam overlay doesnt work with the game and it wont register me as in game as soon as the game launches

I hope this solves your problem...

You will need: Steam, the NCSoft Launcher, and City of Heroes, and a pound of bacon.

1) Open Steam, go to your library and click "Add Game" at the bottom left corner, then click "Add a non-Steam game". A list of installed programs will pop up. Ignore them and click "Browse". Navigate to the launcher's folder (Default is C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher) and select NCLauncher.exe. Now click "Add Selected Program". A link to NCLauncher should appear somewhere in your game list.

2) Now we have a link to the launcher on Steam, but we don't want it to open the launcher, we want it to launch the game. Right click on NCLauncher and select "Properties". You should see this, depending on what folder the launcher was installed in:

You can change the name (recommended) and the icon, but the most critical change to make is to the target. At the end of the last quotation mark, hit space and type

/LaunchGame=CityOfHeroes

[You can also substitute 'CoHTest' and 'CoHBeta' for 'CityOfHeroes' if you want links to the Test and Beta servers, respectively]

You should now see:

3) Now we have a link in our Steam library that will open the launcher if it isn't already active and launch the game, but getting this to work with Steam's definition of 'in-game' requires making a change to the behavior of the launcher (if you followed Hyperstrike's launcher guide you can ignore this step). Open the launcher and click File->Settings. Under the "General" tab, where it says "After launching a game", select "Exit Launcher".

Now, if you've done all this, clicking the link in your Steam library should 1) start the launcher, then 2) launch the game and then 3) close the launcher. You should be able to access the Steam interface in-game, receive notifications of when your friends are online AND Steam will properly notify your friends that you're playing City of Heroes. Now cook up that bacon and enjoy life.

It's a workaround, but it doesn't solve the problem. I know how to add the Launcher as a non-Steam game, but I bought the Steam version of the game and want to use the Steam version of the game so that I get the Steam overlay, have it track my playtime, publish my screenshots and generally do most of the things that Steam games do.

Just *something* from a redname that said "Yes, we're updating the Steam install to fix existing installs" or "No, we're not updating the Steam install because we hate you" or even "No, we're not updating the Steam install but here's how to make it use the Launcher" would make me feel less like they just don't care about the Steam version.

which version of coh do you have on steam? cause i think there are 2 versions on steam, coh architect edition and coh GR?

the coh GR version DID get an update approximately the same time that steam offered coh GR edition as their daily deal sale (according to the news section on coh GR, that was july 15th)

i do not know if coh architect edition has received an update since i do not have that version on steam

as i previously mentioned a work around can be to download the launcher on your own and then it should detect your steam install as the main game so you can still play, but you wont be able to launch through steam

after doing a quick search it seems that the coh architect edition was removed from the store so i doubt that version will receive any more updates from steam
