Traps/Sonic duo with?

So my buddy and I are making a defender DUO. He is set on Traps/Sonic (for good reason) and I am thinking of a defender to duo with him, but also solo and group when we are not on at the same time.

For this duo we want to be self sufficient and able to take down AVs.

I know the glory that is Rad, but I have played rad to death with my trollers and I'm looking for a different playstyle.

I was also thinking to go Traps/Ice because Traps looks awesome to me, able to debuff everything and give great defense makes me smile. But im not sure if 2xtraps would be overkill...

Any suggestions on a good prim/second that would pair well with a traps/sonic?

I am pretty set on Ice as my secondary but I'm open for suggestions.

My Two suggestions

If you go Dark/Ice you can get 3 single target holds (more if you use Devastation proc) along with Tar Patch.

If you go Cold/Ice you get Heat Loss, Sleet and Benumb. The combination for your partner with Force Field drone and your ice shields will be awesome.

2x Traps is absolutely not overkill. The 2 of you would each be soft-capped to all by lvl 22 if you took Maneuvers by then. Actually only one of you needs to take Maneuvers for soft-cap. You'd be able to take on anything, with only endurance management a real concern.

Traps is one of the most fun powersets I've ever played. I would recommend rolling a Corr, though, so you'll have a little more killing power on your duo. Other than that I'd think maybe Cold Domination or Dark Miasma.

Few other points:

* for a defender duo, the +Dmg buff for 1 teammate is 20%, for each of you
* if you go Ice Blast then Ice Storm and Blizzard will get the same damage as a Corr, outside scourge
* /sonic for a defender debuffs resistance significantly more than Sonic/ on a Corr
* Acid Mortar has the same degree of advantage for defender debuff

I crunched the numbers real quick and, excepting for Scourge, the numbers are almost identical (no I'm not going to show my work), with the Defender pulling ahead with each Sonic attack stacking -res. On the other hand, twin corr trappers with 2 Maneuvers and 2 FFGs would be at 38% defense vs the Defenders comfortably over the soft-cap. Yes you can build up def bonuses but the Defenders will be soft-capped the second they slot SOs.

I didn't even get into the higher -dmg debuffs from seekers for the Defs as well.

Hey thanks guys for the input.

Double traps it is, I love the defense, were sitting at lvl 20 already and I just picked up ice storm...yum.

would you suggest picking up tough, weave, hover, etc?
