Copying CoH to a new computer?

So, I'm finally upgrading to a new and much better computer and would like to copy my CoH installation from the old one to the new one, instead of resintalling and having to download a ton upgrades.

I remember this was relatively simple to do with the old updater, did it a couple times 2 or 3 years ago and it worked fine, but can we still do that with the new updater?

If we can, could someone please list the important steps to do it? I don't need a visual guide with screenshots or anything, just a simple checklist would be great...

Thanks already for any helpful answers!

What I did was to start the install from one of my original installation cd's and change the installation path (something I always do). Once it was running for about a minute, I stopped the installation. At that point, I copied the files from the old computer into the installation directory on the new computer. I then launched the game using the old updater.

After that, I installed the new launcher and let it detect the game installation and do it's thing.

Some recommend deleting the checksum file and running a consistency check, but I didn't need to do that with mine. YMMV

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

You'll want the piggs directory. Everything else is relatively small.
If you want to save any missions, costumes, etc, you're probably just better off grabbing the whole directory.

  1. Install the NCSoft launcher.
  2. Install CoH. [from within the Launcher - TO]
  3. Once the download begins, stop and exit the launcher.
  4. Copy the original CoH directory into place over the top of the newly installed one.
  5. Remove any .checksum files.
  6. Restart the launcher and allow it to do updates and file verification.
  7. Once that's done you should be able to log into CoH, reset your video settings, and party on.
Hope this clears it up.
