Quick Question

So, I rolled a wp/dm tanker a few weeks ago, and have really enjoyed it so far. He's currently level 34, and nigh untouchable. Thing is, he seems really light on anything AoE so far. I really like to herd up two groups at once, but the lack of AoE damage can make it a bit difficult to keep aggro on all the enemies at once. So far, I've gotten by with the help of my good friend the Tab key, and taunting anything that even looks at someone else.

So, the question. Does it get easier to hold agro over large groups once I get to the epic and patron power pools? And, on that topic, which power pools would you consider *best* for me to take?

Unfortunately WP has one of the weakest taunt auras for a tank, so it makes it harder, but not impossible to hold aggro. I try and find at least one slot on RttC to add in a Taunt IO on my WP tanks to help with that. Some players don't find it necessary to do so.

Keep spamming the taunt power. Constantly change targets on your attacks, leveraging gauntlet. My personal preference on a WP/DM toon would be to grap the Pyre Epic set and work Fireball in as often as possible. If you're not finding the need to use Dark Consumption for the +end, use it as an another AoE attack. Slot it for Dmg/Recharge.

I'm not saying this is the best answer, but this would be the direction I'd lean towards if I had a WP/DM tank.

If you're looking for pure aggro holding purposes (and added survivability) than definitely look into Soul Mastery's Darkest Night. It's a large radius AoE toggle that not only gives a nice to hit debuff (can be enhanced up to ~20%) but also an unresistable -21% damage debuff. This adds to your survivability and anything in Darkest Night's patch will also be taunted (every .75 seconds with the reapplication of the debuff, which is more often than your taunt aura even) to you due to the debuffs affecting them.

Thank you both very much for the replies! I'll certainly look into Fireball, and, if I can swing by to villianside at some point, Darkest Night as well. Until then, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing! It's worked well so far

Darkest Night is fully resistible. The catch is that damage (and resistance) debuffs are resisted by the enemy's resistance, which makes them disproportionately stronger against AVs than things like tohit debuffs.

On a different note, slotting up Taunt helps a lot. I prefer 5-6 slotting it with Mocking Beratement or Perfect Zinger (depending on the set bonuses you're going for). An ED softcapped enhanced Taunt is a very powerful tool.

I feel the need to clarify this even though I realize Colossal knows this and hinted at it in his sentence. Darkest Night does not taunt enemies. It will generate some aggro, but in my experience using the power, allies who damage enemies I have in the Darkest Night's effect will get the aggro instead of me. So while it is mildly helpful with aggro generation, it is not reliable like Dark Obliteration (or Fire Ball).
