Since you are 33 you should be looking now at IO sets. The smashing haymaker and kinetic combat are good for your primary (melee) powers. Also your PBAoE's like multi-strike, cleaving blow, scirocco's dervish, to name a few, can be slotted but should be upgraded since they'll continue to drop all the way to 50. Frankly this is a bookmark you should check out if you haven't already.

At 32+, looking at sets is a great idea. Some sets (like he mentioned above) like Kinetic Combat cap at 35 which means you can slot them now. Other sets, like Reactive Armor, cap at 40 which means you can start bidding on them now to have them by 37 (unless max level for each set doesn't matter to you).
I would even start slotting level 35 common IOs into powers that aren't going to be slotted with sets. At level 35, IOs now exceed SO++ and are permanent (read: never turn red again).
Oh excellent, i'll definitly start looking at what I want then. I'm not too worried about max level right now, more about being able to go with what I can afford.
The main reason I had to ask was because I had been doing some bronze ticket rolls and got Obliteration:Acc/Dam/Rech Recipe and found that if I could get the set i'd want to use it rather than sell it.
I wait until 47 to start slotting most of my characters because I prefer the level 50 inventions. You don't have to wait, but don't expect an amazing build from sets. A few defense bonuses can definitely go a long way to helping you level easier.
I plan my builds out before I make my characters. Leveling builds tend to demand different slotting, and I don't want to waste a respec just to get into my level 50 build. Did you plan a build out for your character?

However, you can have 5 of the 5% bonus, 5 of the 7.5% bonus, etc.
The tricky part is that some of the bonuses look the same but have different names. Like the luck of the Gambler 7.5% global recharge, it doesn't stack with the other 7.5% sets.
Could someone please tell me when is a good level to start looking at IO sets for Brutes. I've just hit 33 and my current SOs are now red so it's time for me to get news so before I do I just wanted to to know if it's too early for me to be looking at IO sets.
I did find two links in the Slotting basics guide but they don't seem to work anymore and when I search for slotting or sets myself i'm just getting other people's builds that look to be level 50.
I don't need to know what sets to use in where as the forum is teaming with builds and advice for that. I just need the when
