Ice/Cold how badly gimped will I be.

Ok, I was wanting to roll a new toon to replace my 38 Ice/Ice blaster, which was a total disappointment, and I decided to go Ice/Cold to keep a similar theme.

But then I saw the thread on AV/Killer build and it was suggested to go Fire/Cold. Should I re-roll with Fire to keep from being total teh gimp? or with a proper build can Ice keep up with fire?

Fire is THE primary to go for with corruptors if you are worried about dealing the most damage.

If you want ice, go ice. But, you can always color fire to be blueish-white ;-)

As was said in Gran Torino, "Your world is nothing more than all the tiny things you've left behind", let CoH be one of those things. Don't forget, forgive.

I run an ice/cold ruptor all the time, and she never feels gimped. Ever. She feels especially ungimpy immediately after wiping a spawn out with The Stunt, which no other blast set can do.

edit: Meaning that no other blast set can do The Stunt, not that no other blast set can wipe out a spawn.

Ok, then how about this angle. Is Ice going to give me any advantage that I am not already getting from my Cold set when compared to fire?

The only control power in the set I will be taking is Freeze Ray.

Also I thought that Heat Loss + Sleet + Blizzard would be pretty sick. Will Sleet + Heat Loss + Inferno provide similar results?

Its not about Inferno, man

Its about Rain of Fire

That's The Stunt, which can also be enhanced with the addition of Ice Storm. Inferno is nice and all, I guess, but Blizzard is blaster scale and is also pure class. Inferno just kinda pales in comparison on ruptors. I mean Blizzard does damn near 50% more damage than Inferno does. It takes a bit to do that damage but you have a plan to survive the next 15 seconds right Plus seeing that rain of orange 15s turn into a rain of scourging 15s is sooo satisfying.

That said Inferno will still wipe out all the minions and probably do a fair chunk towards LTs too, and you can mix in Rain of Fire with fire blast.

Emberly on your Ice/Cold did you take Frost Breath?

Took it leveling up but dropped it once I got to 50, never missed it.

Not dissing the awesomeness of blizzard (because it is that awesome), but heat loss + sleet + RoF and a fireball or 2 and everything is just as dead. RoF comes back in about 15-20 seconds on a close to perma heatloss build too.

Anything/Cold is still going to be awesome and Ice would probably be my third choice of primaries (after fire and sonic) to pair with /cold.

Ice's AoE damage will be lower, since there is no spammable fireball - good fire blast builds toss a fireball once every 5 seconds or so. Also, on corruptors, Fire Blast (the power) is really, really good, enough that it may push fire's ST damage significantly higher than Ice's, but I haven't crunched the numbers. Ice also has a slightly worse damage type - its attacks are usually about 40% lethal.

In exchange, Ice gets freezing ray, a much better nuke, -tohit on bitter ice blast, and the advantage of cheap impeded swiftness procs to use if you decide to proc out. It's not the best, but it's still pretty good.

Please I have an Cold/Ice DEFENDER and I dont feel gimped.. a Corruptor would be full of win..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Good lord, there's nothing gimped at all about Ice/Cold, great combo.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

Not to mention the often underrated stacking slows that virtually keep foes in their place.

Those also feature on Ice/Ice blasters, which he already scrapped at 38 because he hated it.

Frankly, I can understand it. Slows look fun, but don't really feel fun.

Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.

I guess my question is what is it about a Ice/cold makes you think you will enjoy it more than an Ice/ice blaster that you were "totally disappointed with?" I like both my Ice/ice and Cold/ice about the same and to me they play rather similar.

The reason I scrapped my Ice/Ice is that I took all but "Bitter Freeze Ray" from the primary. But the secondary I found to be utterly useless with the exception of Shiver and Build up. So I was really dissapointed that I only had two useful powers in my secondary.

When I started the toon I thought that ice Patch would be nice along with chilling embrace. But I quickly found that using both of those was usually just suicide.
