Sonic/Sonic Build

I'm planning a build for my sonic/sonic defender. I have the following goals:

1. I plan to team, but also don't want to be stuck twiddling my thumbs if one isn't available. So, I want to be able to solo effectively. To that end, I'd like good survivability and damage.

2. I need to keep the end consumption under control.

Also:
3. I have the City Traveler veteran reward.

4. How useful is Clarity? Is sonic dispersion enough, or do people clamor for clarity?

5. I'm not looking to spend tons on purple/pvp IOs. I already have a couple of the expensive items from cashing in Alignment Merits.

Here's what I've come up with. Does anyone have any other ideas for this build? Thanks in advance!

First, I suggest you need two builds, team and solo. Decide if you want SOs, generic IOs, or sets for either or both. For sonic as well as forcefields and cold having team buffs is unnecesarry in solo build. If it were me, I would generic IO the solo and set build the team build.

Thanks for the dual build idea. So, what would you take in the solo build that isn't currently in the build that I posted? Clarity is the main thing that I'm debating for the team build.

That looks like a fine build. If you go for the end/resist Alpha (I can't remember the name right now) then you won't need to focus so much on +end and +rec bonuses. Something to think about for later.

As for Clarity, I personally like to keep it because it a) protects from sleeps and b) can be stacked for the GW fight. If you find a choice that you think will serve you better, omitting Clarity is fine.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

If you're teaming, and like the STF or other similar things, you can slot Hami's and cage LR, The Patrons, and the Towers for tankless STF runs.

Note: Hami's modify magnitude. You won't be able to cage the high end targets pre-50, and you'll need 2 HAmi's as a defender or 1 as a controller. I used 3 Hamis, 1 Hami failed as a defender, and I never got back to testing only 2, but it should work with 2. It may also work with only 1 Hami and a Level Shift, but this is also un-tested by myself.

what are Alignment merits. I thought i read about getting 40 merits for switching sides, but only 1 merit after the first switch. I took a defender to red side and don't remember getting any merits for it..

ill try my search-fu

nvm, i gather from this thread

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...ignment+merits

that i would have to re-affirm my alignment to get the merits, i just went straight thru to red, then back to blue.

I made a solo build, looked at it, and tbh I would just make one build. The solo build I made doesnt look much different, or rather, not worth the extra cost..

You might just drop Shockwave for Amplify and maybe start the Cardiac alpha

Here what im thinkin

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning toward the cardiac alpha. Since it helps with both endurance and resistance, it seems like a good choice for sonic/.

I'm also debating dropping soul drain and going with cage. Cage seems like it wouldn't be used too often. But, on the other hand, it's a semi-unique kind of thing that I don't think I've ever seen anybody use. So I'll at least play with it and decide if I like it before respeccing into a "final" build.

If you are in a tough taskforce where you encounter multiple AVs in a spawn it can really help if it's needed, like Kahn, the Statesman TF (caging pylons can be very useful). The sonic cage is also very useful when soloing, since it acts like a 'hold' for tough spawns where you need to knock out one guy and have multiple tools that have accuracy checks.

I should add, recolor the cage with as bright and gawdy colors to alert teammates what is caged.
