Can a tanker get close to a scrapper?

I regard it as a test of my skill -- and as a refreshing change of pace -- to adapt to any weird combo of ATs and powersets that shows up on a team. So I always tell people to play whatever they feel like, and I'll adapt.

Nice EJI, your math is good enough for me (also it made me realize my proposed build sucks for leveling because I skipped Fire Sword.

But the 30ish dps difference to a regular scrapper (like Ma/Will or something) should be less noticeable when Fire/Fire shines (Blazing Aura, Burn, Cobustion, FSC) - by the way, maybe Burn is a good ST attack? I never had the new version. And perhaps adding Gloom to the mix might make the ST DPS better on a hogh recharge build.

Burn is the best ST attack you have access to as a tanker.

Is burn performing better than the numbers in MIDs?

Burn: 107.4 dmg, 2.03s cast (+.23 arcanatime) = 47.5dps

Incin: 111.2 dmg, 1.67s (+.23) = 55.6 dps

GFS: 144.1 dmg, 2.33s (+.23) = 56.3 dps

Gloom: 78.3 dmg, 1.1s (.23) = 58.9 dps

edit to add: these numbers are base, unenhanced values. the disparity between the tank and the scrapper will grow a bit as you factor in slotting to the ED dmg cap, but they provide a good basis for discussion as it takes out variables.

A chain of scorch> incinerate> GFS >Gloom = 53.6 dps
scorch> incinerate> burn >GFS >Gloom = 52.1 dps

53.6 x 1.1333(FE under the previous assumptions)= 60.7 x 1.15 (bruising) = 69.9 dps

Burn does about 150 damage unenhanced at level 50 against an evencon enemy. The DoT is reported everywhere (Mids, RedTomax) as ticking 13 times for one tic of damage, but it actually ticks 13 times for two tics of damage.

I don't care what the numbers say, I'll always play Tankers because I find them fun. I don't care if a Brute is standing next to me doing more damage. I have more fun playing a Tanker than a Brute. I'm not the only one, and Tankers will never be 'obsolete' or any of that silliness. And I also know there are plenty of people who feel the opposite way. Hooray! We all get to play an AT that's fun!

Fiery Aura/Super Strength has already been mentioned... and wow, is it ever godly... mine's just about to get Foot Stomp. My friends don't like bringing damage dealers when I'm playing him, because they feel outclassed.

I play a tanker duo with a friend, I have Dark Melee and he has Energy Melee, and we both do rather well for damage. Energy, despite being mostly single target, still hits hard even with a longer animation on Energy Transfer. And Dark has Soul Drain... that helps quite a lot with keeping the damage up.
