Is Energy/Kin worth playing?
Your ~20 views and no responses tells me.. No! Do not play nrg/kin!
Suspicion confirmed- Thanks!
Energy just isn't a great blast set (although it's my favorite ) - half the powers are skippable and knockback, in most cases, is annoying. You could definitely make it work with Kinetics, if you used the knockback to move enemies into better locations, but then you'd be more focused on using your Kin powers and might be better off making a defender instead (I only use /energy on defenders, where I use the blasts as mitigation rather than attacks).
On the other hand, Energy has a great single target attack chain, and with Siphon Power or FS up, it should be able to take out at least minions in one go, especially with scourge...it might be worth leveling one up enough to get the ST chain and SP, and see if it works. If it is as powerful as I'm thinking then the knockback wouldn't be a problem because you could solo whatever you knocked away from the rest of the group. You'd just have to be mindful of your Kin targets and make sure you keep them where you want them.
Hi corruptors. My first ever character was an nrg/kin that I spent my first month and a half playing to the low 40's before I retired him. With the new buff to kinetics I have been thinking about bringing him back, but his primary and secondary seem to have horrible synergy... The kb from energy blast sort of defeats the purpose of the cornerstone kinetics powers.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with this combination, and whether it's worth investing more time in or not- I obviously had no idea what I was doing when I made this guy, since he was my first ever character. I just sort of picked two things that sounded cool. |
I've got an Energy/Energy blaster that was my first character, and while I like it, it's just a lot more work to play it right. And you have to use single-target attacks a lot.
My recommendation is to go with a corruptor that doesn't have Energy. It seems Fire/Kin would be more fun for you, as you can get massive AoE damage without displacing the mobs.
They don't seem to have horrible synergy because they do. I would Hover blast as a way to minimize the KB by making it KD. If you got it in the 40s, then I see little reason not to finish it off unless you really dislike the build. To me there is nothing wrong with getting a build to 50 and then retiring it. You could just let it be your badge character, or the one who works the market, etc...
To Agree with Amy, if you have it in the 40's stick with it. My main and oldest toon on my account is a lvl50 Kin/NRG defender, and people complain about his kb all the time, and yet, I find him incredibly fun. The only problem there, is as a defender I would have preferred something that does -def or something to kb, so in the case of a defender, it's iffy. Corrs on the other hand have increased damage, and with the kb using hover becoming kd, it can become pretty sick. Just be careful, there is a power in there (I can't remember it by name atm) but when used not only causes kd when hovering above, but knocks enemies flying sideways even from above.
Edit: Coincidentally, it is my badge character. As Amy suggests.
Poor Coyote... I've always wondered what he did to piss off Statesman badly enough to earn himself a lifetime of telling newbies to punch sick people...
