Burn Notice - June 23, 2011 (some spoilers)

Warning: I will not recap the episode, but will talk about certain scenes.

Yay! Michael Westen and company are back!

Fiona looking good in slinky dress.. yum.

Sam looking fitter.

Jesse gets a cameo (I guess so the actor gets a paycheck?)

Mother, is being mother.

Now the spoilers, and suspicions...

They grab the guy that knows the head guy. Michael is sent away. CIA calls Michael back a day later. Wait.. ONE day is all the time the CIA tries to get information? ONE DAY? Something smells...

Michael walks into the interrogation room, takes him all of FIVE minutes to get the guy talking. He's good, but.. something really smells...

Cut to Caracas and the CIA operation starts out, then radio interference. At first I buy Fiona's explanation.. at first.

This head guy, with this impenetrable and dangerous-to-attack compound, has 3 bodyguards for the entire place? THREE?

And how convenient that .. I won't say more.

So, who's going to be the first to find out this was all a CIA set up?
Sam, from an old buddy?
Jesse, through a contact or source of his former job?
But not Fiona, she'd bury any such info deep inside, but I doubt she has any such contacts. I'm surprised the CIA even let her come to Caracas, with her background. Is she even an American citizen?

But at least Burn Notice is back!

It looks like Jesse's being relegated to occasional resource/guest appearance status ala Barry and Nate. Kind of a shame, I liked him as part of the main group, but I'll take what I can get.

I'm a bit interested in this idea that the whole thing was a setup. Really, you raise some good points, but Burn Notice is also a "try not to think too hard about this" sort of show, so that may just be it crumbling under scrutiny. As far as I recall, John Mahoney's character still hasn't been dealt with, and I can't imagine they'd just drop him off screen between seasons, so I suspect that whatever they develop, he'll be playing into it.

Of course, I also wouldn't mind if they just go "okay, meta-plot over, we're gonna stick to the single episode stories from now on", as I tend to enjoy the drug-runner-of-the-week setup to the more extended stories anyway.

The whole thing was obviously either a set up or misdirect. As they pointed out, these guys are experienced with covert ops and they've managed to operate for a long time without getting caught. The second their organization started coming under attack, they would've begun some sort of survival plan.

Goodbye, I guess.

I'm not so sure. I think it was a way for him to still be in Miami to appear regularly.

It was the ONE day thing interrogation that made me suspicious. It could have been a week and I would have accepted it on face value; it wouldn't really have taken up more screentime as a quick scene indicating time passing (i.e., Sam and Michael fishing, Sam asking "So Mikey, whatcha been up to all week?") would have seem more plausible. But, Michael gets the phone call and even he seems incredulous that's only been a day.

I thought he got killed.

I like the Meta-plot, if it wasn't focused on so much. I can see it for one season or some half-seasons; I didn't want to see the Miami Vice thing of drug-lord-a-week constantly. Perhaps they'll go episodic more for now until something comes up that indicates to Micheal that the last operation was a misdirection.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. Hector being a very good op, seemed to cave in to Michael too easily during that so-called interrogation. And his futile knife-attack attempt to get away from the two of them when caught may have been contrived as well. I think THAT was the first hint of something fishy is going on. But maybe I'm used to seeing Michael in action as he is just that good (being the hero and all ).

Another thing, though: I thought the revealing the second interrogation camera trick was a setup between the CIA and Michael and I was surprised it wasn't. Now that I think about it; Hector just might have given them the wrong man as the misdirection so the CIA might not be involved with that at all.

Did he? Last I remember was the first Simon episode, and I'm pretty sure he survived that, in the end. My memory can be sketchy at times, though.
