Ice/Elec or Ice/Kin

I'm currently at a weird point with my Ice/Elec Tanker. He was alright leveling from 1-50, but he tends to be so close to my Elec/SR stalker in terms of play style that I generally skip my tank for my stalker. Because of this, I was actually thinking of re-rolling my character as an Ice/Kin Tanker instead. Give myself a new power set to tinker with and make it different enough (and tactically) that I can actually see a major difference between the two.

My Ice/Kin build has the following (just made):

- Softcap Smash/Lethal/Neg/Energy without Energy Absorption
- Approximately 10 HP off cap with Hoarfrost
- 138.8% recharge with Hasten
- 27 HP/sec regen
- Between Burst, Chilling Embrace, and 1 other attack, I'll be doing -35% dmg debuff (if not more depending how well I can chain things)

There's another thread that discusses the merits of ice/km. I highly recommend going soul mastery instead for darkest night as it helps plug up some mitigation holes in ice armor due to the -dmg. Later, adding in Paralytic and Void incarnate powers, you can potentially floor the enemies' damage.

Regarding your build, why not just use 4 kinetic combats in quick strick and slot something else in concentrated strike (like crushing impact, using the leftover slot to do the same to smashing blow)? Going for positional defense bonuses on a typed defense build is inefficient. Also, EA could use more of a balance between def/rech/endmod slotting (the extra defense helps a ton in incarnate content). Needs more regen, too. I like to shoot for at least 1% hp/sec on defense builds.

Later tonight I'll try to work on a build to compare/contrast ideas with you.

Right here's what I came up with. Build uses Leaping, which can be easily swapped out for Flight. Some build highlights:

Softcapped S/L/E/N
Capped HP with Hoarfrost active (includes +hp accolades)
39hp/sec regen with hoarfrost active (1.1% hp/sec)
145% global recharge with Hasten active
Net recovery of 1.91end/sec without DN on - 1.54end/sec with DN on (includes +end accolades)
CE and DN on their own do -35% dmg
Opted for Repulsing Torrent instead of Focused Burst for a little more AoE mitigation (and it's fun to use)

You could use quite a bit more accuracy for your attacks. Your endurance consumption is also bad, even with EA, and more so once DN gets turned on. I do like that you went for a crapload of HP (a good 200hp more than my posted build), however, you sacrifice a chunk of recharge to get it. The accuracy issue lies in the IOs you chose to slot your attacks with and easily fixed. I did notice you were using Nerve to fix it and bolster your defense, though, but since endurance is the primary issue that I see, Cardiac would be a better fit for your build.

It's really not too difficult to softcap Ice Armor, either. You don't even need Stealth. Just have to slot things a bit differently. Just look at the build I posted earlier this month and compare it side by side with yours. Take anything you need from it

Because of the Nerve Alpha, I did slot my attacks with minimal accuracy, and if possible tried to focus on something else (endurance, damage, procs, or recharge.) About the endurance consumption. It does look bad, yes, and maybe it is. But I have an Elec/SS tank who has a higher end consumption, and has to deal with both the rage and hasten crash. And I never have end problems. Maybe I will with this guy. But I am not sure. He is 50. But he is not slotted (haven't had time.) Recharge could be an issue.. I love my recharge haha. I literally jump with joy when a controller, defender, or corrupter with speed boost is on a team with me. But 68.8% (practically 70%) seems decent to me. But maybe I will have to test it out first.

Oh, and about stealth. In my proposed build it does two things. One, pushes me over the soft cap. And two, is used to hold an LoTG set.

With all of your toggles that you'd need in a fight (basically excluding SJ) toggles on you're posted build gets a net recovery of 0.95 end/s. That's just from toggles. Your attacks are going to have a further impact on that and while you may be fine with just EA while moving through spawns, long fights against fewer foes are going to make you feel it. That was the biggest issue I had at first with my Ice/Ice tank - he couldn't sustain attacking AVs. Cardiac and some more optimal slotted fixed that.

As for Stealth, the build I posted is softcapped without it AND Nerve. The LotG you have there could go in EA, too (which you would also benefit by getting some defense in EA). It also has all that juicy recharge you like.

Okay, so I messed around with my build (very little, but you can notice.) And took your advice with the Cardiac Alpha. In a fight with an AV, running all toggles -Icicles but adding Darkest Night. I get a net endurance recovery of 1.77 end/sec. Seems decent to me. All of my attacks are slotted the same, but I switched around the IOs so now every attack has 66% accuracy or more. And I am still soft capped. Taking into account stealth.

That should be able to get you through uses of EA. If it's still not enough you can just spam quick strike until you get some more end, which is what I used to do. However, at some point you'll be on a team fighting an AV (say Romulus in the ITF) and the rest of the team isn't putting out enough damage until you start going through your attack chain. Bottoming out of end and resorting to just spamming QS isn't going to cut it. That actually happened to me on a pug ITF as I was dealing with adds and Rom+nictus. Team was having issues out damaging the healing nictus until I started attacking Rom, too. Of course, this scenario doesn't really involve me having end issues, but the same thing could have occurred if I did have issues and was having to only use my Tier 1.

Doesn't happen often, sure, but pugs certainly bring the randomness to the game lol.

And it's not a problem keeping stealth if you really want to. I was just trying to point out that you could achieve the same levels of defense without the need for and extra toggle. My Icer runs 9 toggles (with DN on) and I'm able to keep my endurance balanced. You're running a max of 10 toggles.

I could always pick up the Ageless T4, if I remember correctly it gives recharge AND recovery. But I have never messed around with it. But that would only cover level 50 play.. which is what I want to do actually. Do you have any reccomendations for which Destiny power to take? Most except... Clarion? Seem good to me.

I personally use Rebirth Radial on my Ice/Ice. Get hit? Pop Hoarfrost. Get hit again? Pop Rebirth. Last resort is still Hibernate.

Since your build is going to be running with higher HP than I do, you would probably want to use Rebirth first since a lot of Hoarfrost's +HP is wasted from your higher native HP.

Or I could take the Rebirth that gives +Regen and not +HP. I opted for high HP so that hits when I don't have Hoarfrost up didn't hurt as bad.

Okay, so I did some tweaking. And this is what I came up with. No stealth, still soft capped. No nerve, still soft capped. It has decent accuracy, decent recharge, more regen than my previous build, but less health. And the end issues seem A LOT better with the Cardiac, naturally. Feedback would be awesome. (:

Sorry for all the multiple posts. I figured out how to export from Mid's easily. But didn't know how to do the copy and paste thing until now. And from experience, whenever I would look at a build. The copy and past option was easiest. So there it is!

Looks good! Don't worry about that lost 200hp. With accolades and hoarfrost you can still get hardcapped hp.


EDIT: You might have acc and survival issues on iTrials, but those will get better with level shifts. Just be sure to stick with it. My Icer got creamed, at first, but now I can run around with no support.

Alright, so about the accuracy issue, would you reccomend dropping a proc from either Quick Strike or Gloom and adding a Kismet +to-hit?
