Chat Channels - One left kept in chat.txt?

I peek at my Chat.txt file, the one that keeps saved data from the game if you save Chat Settings [Similar to Windows settings or keybinds] and I notice there are a lot of channels listed that I don't belong to anymore, I have left or otherwise not in for a looong time. Anyone know why this is or how to fix it? I'm a bit OCD and don't like the data on my toons' Chat Settings save file chat.txt saying those channels.

Have you tried just setting up the channels how you like (say on your main character), then saving the file from that character?

Have you ACTUALLY LEFT the channels, or did you just remove the channels from your tabs? Because it takes more than just removing the channels from your tabs to LEAVE the channel.

If you haven't actually LEFT the channels: open up your friends list, then select the channel name from the list so you get the online member list. One of the bottom buttons will be either [leave] or [leave channel]. Click that to leave.

If you HAVE left the channels already, Snow's got your deal up above.

See, that's the odd part.

I have left the channel by choosing Right Click > Leave Channel and left. I had also removed the channel from my tabs before hand. I went to a character that had no such channel in their tab even before I had left and after I saved chat settings and open up chat.txt in the CoX folder, it still lists a channel I recently left. Wondering why

Huh. Just attempted this myself.

1. Verified chat.txt contents.
2. Left channel.
3. Verified channel lists.
4. /chatsave
5. Verify chat.txt settings - it's still listed there.
6. Logged back in, still not in channel
7. Quit to desktop
8. Verify chat.txt settings - it's still listed there.
9. Delete the line containing channel name.
10. Logged back in, still not in channel, no adverse effects.
11. Joined channel again

It looks like it simply doesn't remove them after addition. I had channels listed where I joined temporarily for one night for events; old channels for friends who have migrated on and I've left the channel; etc. Deleted those with no ill effects either.

Well, you can just delete the lines from the file without worrying about corrupting it, looks like. They're deliberately editable.

Log into a character and read the system messages that pop up. Every time you log into a character, you join all the channels that you are a member of. I would call it a bug, but if you log into a character that has a tab set up for a channel you used to be in, but left, that tab will force you to rejoin the channel (if the channel is public).

The only way I've ever been able to leave a public global channel is to delete it from all tabs on all characters, then leave the channel. Otherwise, it just keeps coming back every time I log in a character that has a tab for it.

What bugs me is that occasionally, my global channel colors change back to defaults. It has happened several times, but I haven't been able to pin down what causes it. And the strange thing is that not all the channels default back. There are usually a few out of my 15 channels that are still custom colored which fakes me out for several days until I wonder what is it that feels different about the game. Yeah, I'm kind of oblivious at times, so I have no idea when the issue happens. Still, I don't mess with the Chat [save to file] button in Options or the chat.txt file any more than necessary. I'm the set it and forget it type. Any ideas?

If you add a channel on one character, then log into another character, that is what will happen.

Solution: When you add a chat channel use /chatsave after you've settled the new channel in a tab. Then when you log into another character use /chatload and the colors will be restored.

Oh, so you're saying the colors are hosed because I joined a new channel and it hadn't been saved into the chat.txt file.

Pretty much, yes.

Edit:
Use /chatload, and your last saved colors will be restrored. You will not leave any new channels though. After loading the chat settings, you can change the new channels and /chatsave.
