DB/DA or MA/DA?

Im planning a reroll of my old claws/regen scrapper and given I've been watching way too many cartoons relating to a bunch of folks of the X variety and my lifelong fangirl status of a certain blue 'elf'. I was wondering what powerpools would you, the scrapper community, label mr Wagner with?
Dark Armor seemed like a natural fit, along with some teleportation as well as combat jumping for in combat defenses, for the primary Im stuck though, on one hand he's awesome at martial arts but in certain versions he used two or one blade, so help! If you were to create Nightcrawler in powers alone, how would you do it?

I can't say which is better as a homage, but I have played both of these. DB/DA to 47 and MA/DA being my current lowbie. Based on nothing but funness, or funinity if you will, I highly recommend MA/DA over DB/DA. Surely a rational case can be made for either combination, but the spooky ghosty punchy kicky feels so much more satisfying. Dual blades, on the other hand, goes more naturally with a less visually intense set in my view.

The one mechanical issue I had with DB/DA was that it puts competing pressures on you to both maintain your combo and fire your heal as often as you need to. The animation of dark regen combined with the redraw of DB can be enough to interrupt a combo if your target isn't still immediately adjacent to you, thus alternatively vexing me and, rarely, getting me killed.

You could compromise and go Katana/DA!

If you really want to get the feel of Nightcrawler, ELM/SD with two teleporting attacks would work too.

Out of DB/DA and MA/DA...it's a tough call, but I'd say DB/DA, really in game and with the homage you can't go wrong with either.

But in game, the DB/ will put out more AOE damage while still maintaining good ST DPS.

Alrighty, thanks for the input you two Any idea of a good build for MA/DA with teleportation and combat jumping instead of any other travel power? Doesn't need to be the greatest build ever ofcourse, just fun and semi-functional, could even be SO :P

I don't really build characters in advance, opting instead to wing it as I go along, but here are some general pointers that will help you according to my own demented opinion: It's okay while leveling up, but eventually you want to not have thunder kick in your build. Eagle's claw is similar for damage but better since it stuns more reliably and has the critical chance boost. Take either cobra strike or crane kick, but not both. You can put together a better chain by trying to maximize your usage of storm kick and crippling axe kick.

I like taking everything in dark armor except for cloak of fear - yeah, by some standards it's better than oppressive gloom, but OG's advantage is that it either works great with one slot, or you can stick a purple set into it. This is fairly expensive but if you buy only one IO for this character, you MUST get the theft of essence chance for +endurance and put it into dark regeneration. If going from SOs to frankenslotted IOs is a 200% improvement to the power of the character, just getting that one IO is at least 100%, and it's just one thing.

Since you're talking a lot about the visual side of things... i'd also vote for MA/DA. /DA will already make you kind of a fuzzy ball that's not always there... MA graphics include a "flash" of light/energy at the contact point when you kick something which looks pretty cool with /DA... and the colors of the flashes can be customized if you want.

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

For Kurt, I wouldn't go DA at all. While you could justify a cloak of fear and stealth, dark regen, oppresive gloom, and the self rez just do not fit. He's also a defense style character, with no resistance to speak of. Marvel lists him as one of the most agile characters in its universe. He fits much more in with SR, and either Kat or DB.

When the game first came out I had an homage character like this, kat/sr (dual blades was not out yet, but would probably be more appropriate) with jump kick from combat jumping. Used to have a tp bind that would say "Bamf" in chat, which got really annoying to my teammates

Nowadays you can use beast run with him too.

I'd maybe go stalker if you're not tied to the scrapper AT.

My MA/DA is lots of fun, but be prepared to munch blues while you're levelling. The sooner you can get the health procs & PShifter proc, the easier life will be. Theft of Essence proc for Dark Regeneration is also a must, and can be had early on. Focus on end redux in this power early, adding recharge and heal enhancement to taste as slots become available.

Build can be found here:

edit to add: I generally agree with PleaseRecycle's advice, but I kept Thunder Kick in my build for two reasons: 1) I'm not a fan of the kb in crane kick 2) Keeping TK means I have a lower EPS attack chain to fall back on when my blue bar is getting low. I hate just standing there, waiting for end to recover. Further, allowing the blue bar to drop below 1/3 can make for some dangerous situations, by not having enough end to fire Dark Regen or dropping your toggles when you do. Stacking stuns with OG means I can one-shot stun bosses, and keep AVs wobbling when their triangles are down. Mine solo's most baddies 4x8 without much difficulty (including Malta, which is hugely satisfying) but Cimmies, Carnies, and Arachnos are my Achilles' heel due to def debuffs (and Carnies start to stack holds through my mez protection at high levels). I turn it down to +2x8 for those groups, which still isn't half bad.
