Question about MA for the Scrapper Number Crunchers
Does Eagle's Claw have a place in an optimal single target attack chain? The best chain is widely known, but my question is, even though Eagle's Claw has low DPA in comparison, does it's bonus to crit on the next attack (probably CAK) justify it's use in an optimal attack chain?
If not, how far behind would it be compared to the current ranking chain? |
I don't recall the actual differences, but a few procs thrown into Storm Kick and the other attacks will help it out as always.
Really, you can't go wrong with any of the attacks except Thunder Kick (outside of it's animation...if I had room in my build, Id take Thunder Kick and use it just when looking to mess around).

My current gut feeling is, that with the added damage of reactive, Eagle Claw is less productive than other attacks in martial arts.
The reason being, Reactive adds a flat amount of damage, over time, to all attacks. This tends to make the fastest animating attacks a bit more valuable in a chain, as you can then max stack the reactive bonus quicker.
But it's a fairly small effect, I think, (since I'm too lazy to crunch numbers) and Eagles Claw is SO PRETTY.
Dude, take it, it looks awesome!

Oh believe me, I took it already. It's awesome. I was just wondering if it had a viable spot in a single target attack chain, and wasn't just a Dragon's Tail prep.
On a different but related topic, I'm trying to decide whether it would be a good idea to pick up eagle's claw for the purpose of using it before dragon's tail when possible. That is a big damage boost and they're on similar timers, but when other than farming are you going to have complete confidence in your ability to fart around for 2.7ish extra seconds with a melee aoe? Would being able to more accurately position dragon's tail not make up for a significant yet stationary damage boost?
Any martial artists use eagle's claw in that way?

The real joy of Dragon's Tail, and what makes it a truly top-shelf AOE, is the incredibly fast animation time. You can literally use it as part of a ST attack chain if you want, it just drops right in smoothly and simply.
Trying to chain it with EC slows things way down for me. Others may like it. And honestly, the damage boost is not terribly significant. Occassionaly you'll get a half dozen crits, but that's realllly rare.
I honestly think that MA needs more AOE. Give DT a slightly bigger radius, or add a small cone to Crane Kick, or something.
Don't get me wrong, the recent buffs to MA are AWESOME, but it's still....not so much.

Of course, it is realllly pretty, which counts for something I suppose.

Thanks for the input, I must admit I was leaning in that direction already. I sort of agree with more aoe for MA, but I have the sneaking suspicion it would come with a nerf to storm kick. Cone crane kick is the best idea I've heard though, now that would be amusing.
